TIP: You can easi ly select the app ropriate options for your print job by choosing one of the pred efined print tasks on the Printing Shortcuts tab.

4. Slide the paper-w idth guide firml y against th e edge of t he transparencies. 5. Open the Printer Properties dial og box. 6. Click the Printing Shortcuts tab.

View the print resolution The printer softw are displays the print resoluti on in dots per inch (dp i). The dpi varie s according to the pap er type and print quality that you select i n the print er software. To view th e print resolution 1. On the F ile menu in your sof tware applicati on, click Print .

Load en velopes a . Prepare tray. ❑ Slide paper-wi dth guide to the left. ❑ Remove all paper fro m the paper tr ay. b . Load envelopes. ❑ Insert on e or more envelo pes into far-righ t side of the pap er tray, with envelope flaps on le ft and faci ng up.

Order ink supplies For a list of cartridge numbers, u se the sof tware that came wit h the HP Printer to fi nd out the reorder number. Find the cartr idge numb er 1. In the H P Solutio n Center, click Set tings , point to Print Settings , an d then click Printer Toolbo x .
Automatically clean print cartridges If your printed pages a re faded or if t hey contain ink st reaks, the print ca rtridges might be low on ink or might ne ed to be cleaned . For more informa tion, see Check the estimated ink levels . If the print cart ridges are not low on ink, clean the print cartri dges automat ically.
5. Dip a clean foa m rubber swab or li nt-free cloth in to distilled w ater, and squeeze any excess wate r from it. 6. Hold the print cartridge by its sid es. 7. Clean only the copper-colored co ntacts. Allo w the print cartridges to dr y for approximate ly ten m inutes.
Replace the cartridges To replace the cartri dges 1. Check that power is on . 2. Remove cartridge. a . Open cartri dge door. Wait for print carriag e to move to center o f the product. b . Press down to rele ase cartridge, the n remove it from slo t. 3.
b . Remove plastic t ape using pink p ull tab. c . Line up colored sha ped icons, then sl ide cartridge int o slot unt il it clicks into pla ce. d . Close cartridge door.
Use ink-backup mode Use the ink-backup mod e to operate the HP Printer with onl y one print cartridge. The ink- backup mode is in itiated wh en a print cartridge is rem oved from th e print cartridge carriage. During ink-ba ckup mode, the pro duct can only print jobs from th e computer.

Placing a call Call HP support whi le you are in front of the computer a nd the produ ct. Be prepared to provide t he follow ing info rmation : • Product name (HP De skjet D1600 Printer seri es) •.

Windows XP users 1. On the Windows t askbar, clic k Start , and then click Printers and Faxes . 2. Right-click th e HP Printer ico n, and then click Set as Default Printer . Windows 2000 use rs 1. On the Windows t askbar, clic k Start , point to Settings , and then click Prin ters .
6. Insert the product CD -ROM into your comp uter’s CD-RO M drive and then start t he Setup program. NOTE: If the Setup prog ram does not appear, l ocate the setup .exe file on the CD-ROM driv e and doubl e-click it. HP recommends t hat you use genu ine HP ink cartridges. Ge nuine HP ink cartrid ges are designed and t ested with HP prin ters to help you e asily produce great results, time after time. NOTE: HP cannot gu arantee the q uality or relia bility of non -HP supplies.
Step 2: Load the stack of p aper correctly Solution: Remove the stack of paper from the paper tray, reload the paper, a nd then slide t he paper-widt h guide inwa rd until it stops at the edge of the pap er.
