4. Assemble the outer r ails by completing option a or option b : a. Attach the left outer r ail and the ri ght outer r ail to the rear mounting br ack ets using two 1/4-20 he x nuts with capti ve st ar lock-w ashers att ached loosel y , as show n in Fi g u re 1 2 .
b. Depending on the rac k yo u are u sing, complete one of the f ollow ing tasks: • Fo r HP 10000 ser ies r acks, inst all tw o #10-3 2 x 1/2-inch Phillips pan-head sc r ew s with capti ve st ar lock-w ashers and tw o #10 adapter washer s in the upper and lo wer hole locati ons of the r ight r ail.

6. Identify the sc r ew hol es to be used on the i nner r ails designed f or the sw itch: • T o attac h the inner r ails to the S AN S wi tch 2/3 2 use the sc re w holes mark ed 32 .
8. If y ou ar e instal ling the 4/8, 4/16 or 4/3 2B S AN Sw itc h, v erify that a plenu m (an air duct that attac hes to the s witc h rails, ena bling the sw itch to dr aw cooler air int o the s w itch f r om outside the r ack , rather than dr aw ing in heated air fr om within the r ack .

F or instruct ions on conf iguri ng the sw itch t o operat e in a fabr ic containing s wit ches f rom other v endors, see the F abri c OS administr ator’s guide .
C onnecting the S AN S w itc h to the fa br ic Connect ing the S AN S w itch to the f abri c inv olv es the fol low ing steps: 1. Obta in r equir ed items on page 5 3 2. Mak e a seri a l connec tion on page 5 3 3. Apply po wer to the s w itch and log in on page 56 4.

Apply pow er to t h e s w itch and log in Once a ser ial connec tion is established , apply p o wer to the sw itch: 1. Connect the po wer cor d to a pow er inlet on the sw itch and a po wer sour ce, as sho wn in Fig u r e2 1 . NO TE: The 4 /32 , 4/ 32 B and 4/64 SAN S wi tc h models u se two po wer co r ds .
4. When the terminal emulator a pplication , whic h uses a seri a l connecti on, stops r eporting i nf ormation , press Enter t o display the login pr ompt. 5. Log in u sing the administr ativ e account; the logon is admin and the default pass wor d is password .
Cr eate an Ether net connecti on T o cr eate a n Ethernet connecti on: 1. Connec t an Ethernet cable t o the Ethernet port and to t he wor kstati on, or to an Ethernet netw ork containing the wor kstatio n, as sho wn in Fig u re 22 on p age 5 8.
3. At the F abr ic P arameters pr ompt, enter y and pr ess Enter : Fabric Parameters (yes, y, no, n): (no) y 4. Ente r a uniq ue domain ID , suc h as the domai n ID used b y the pr ev io us s wit ch , if it is still a vaila ble: Domain: (1..239) [1] 3 5.
C onnect the cab les CA UTION: The minimum bend r adius fo r a 50-micr on cable is 2 inches under full t ensile load and 1.2 inches with no tensile l oad. B ecau se the y are easil y o verti ghtened, HP does not r ecommend tie wra ps for opti cal cables.
Set the sw itch d ate and time The date and time s wit ch settings ar e used f or logging ev ents. S w itch oper ation does not depend on the date and tim e; a sw itch w ith an incorr ect date and time value still fun ct ion s pro perly .
