Step Instr uction s connect to ports as signed as pri nt er. All port s are f lexible except as noted below (i.e. , ports m ay be confi gured as com put er or pri nt er).
Step Instr uction s A. Seria l Ports Serial port s on Print Mast er are DCE. Therefore, s traight c abling is requi red between the com puter's s erial port and P rint Master's s eri al port . A st raight cable is also required bet ween Print Mas t er' s serial port and t he serial port of a print er or pl ot t er.
Step Instr uction s To print f rom a serial port of your PC, you m ust f irst redi rec t the parallel out put to the serial port via the DOS c om m and C: >MODE LP Tx:=COMy:, where x and y are the port desi gnat i on (e.

You w ill also need to change the serial port configuration of your PC's com port to match that of the Print Master. If using the Print Master's factory default serial configuration, thi s is accompli shed vi a the DOS command C:>MOD E COMy : 9600, N, 8,1,P wher e y is the number of the appropriate com por t.
Please see Section 5.1 for parallel por t cabling information, Section 5.2 for DB-25 seri al port cabli ng information, or Section 5.3 fo r RJ-45 cabling. Appendix A prov ides recommended cabli ng pinouts. Parallel ports on Print M aster have D B-25 female connectors.
IMPORTA NT: Bef ore y ou proceed w ith cabling , you must know whether the dev ices that you will connect to Print Master are DTE (Data Ter minal Eq uipment) or D CE (D ata Communicati on Equipment) . The followi ng dev ices are g enerally DTE: terminals, printers , and computers like the IBM PC.

There are tw o modes f or sending the Printer Sel ect Code. In Printer Select Mode 2 (pr inter selecti on anytime w hile printing ), Pri nt Master looks for the Printer Sel ect Code any time. If no Printer Select C ode is received, the d ata will be routed to the def ault printer.
W hen a user sends a print job, the data is stor ed in Print M aster's spooling buff er (1 M B standard, av ailable w ith 2 MB on 700C, 700D and 700E models; av ailable w ith up to 4 MB on 700A models).
4. The computer sends the Pr inter Select Code follow ed by a printer port number. If the port number is the same number as that of the current print job, this will indicate the end of the current print job, and the next print job w ill be routed to the same printer .
If you w ish to clear a pr int job is sent i n error, y ou must send the clear buffer sequence whi ch consists of the Printer Sel ect Code follow ed by CLR . This comm and w ill only affect print jobs originated by y our computer.
" # BayTech provides u t ility sof tw are which allows you to convenient ly select betw een peripheral s for IBM DOS and Mi crosoft W indows applicati ons. Port selection i s as easy as acti vating hot keys or by using a mouse.
