ENWW 1-3 Printer configurations This printer is available in the configurations described in this s ection. HP Business Inkjet 3000 The HP Business Inkjet 3000 pr inter is a four-color Inkjet pr inter that prints up to 21 pages per minute (ppm) in monochrome (black an d white) and 17 ppm in colo r in Fast mod e.

ENWW 2-3 1 Tray 1 Note The printer comes with a single sheet ma nual feed unit in the Tray 1 location. You can pu rchase a multipurpose tr ay as an optional accessory, which is installed in pla ce of the single sheet manual feed unit in the Tray 1 lo cation.
2-4 ENWW Setting up the printer To set up the printer, complete the following steps. For illustrated setup informati on, see the setup p oster. Step 1: Set up the printer 1 Select a location f or the printer that is level, sturdy, and can support all corners of the pr int er, such as a low ta ble .

Step 2: Connect the power cord and turn on the printer 1 Connect the powe r cord to the printe r and an altern at ing current (AC) power re ceptacle.
2-6 ENWW Step 4: Install the ink cartridges 1 Make sure th e pr int er is turn ed on. 2 Lift the ink c artridge cover. 3 Remove each ink cartridge fr om its package. 4 Align the color ed a rrows, and then inse rt each ink cartridge int o its color-code d slot.
ENWW 2-7 3 Lift and push t he latch toward the back of the printer (it em 3 in the graphic). 4 Remove each printhead from its package. 5 Remove the prot ect ive tape from each pr inthead. 6 Remove the plastic cap from each printhead by pulling down as indicated by the arr ow on th e cap.

ENWW 2-1 1 Connecting the printer using a USB cable in Windows Use a USB cable to connect the printe r to the comp uter if the compu ter has a USB port and is running W indows 98, Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Win dows 2000, or Windows XP.
2-12 ENWW 8 Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the ins tallation. 9 Connect the USB cab le to the computer and the print er. The Found New Hardware wizard appears on the computer screen, and the printer icon is creat ed in the Printers fo lder .
ENWW 2-13 Connecting the printer with a USB cable in the Mac OS Note When setting up the p rinter using a USB cable, install t he software first, and t hen connect t he pr inter to the compu ter. 1 Insert th e Starter CD into the C D-ROM driv e. The CD m enu runs automatically.

ENWW 2-15 Connecting the printer using a network connection in Windows Note When setting up t he printer using a netw ork connection, co nn ect the print er to the n etwork first, and then install the s oftware. 1 If an HP Jetdirect print server was purchased separately, install it in the print er.
2-16 ENWW Connecting the printer with a network (Ethernet) cable in the Mac OS When connecting th e printer to a network in the Mac OS, make sure t he HP Jetdirect print server is installed in the printer before you install the printer software.
ENWW 2-17 Mac OS X 10 Open the Print Center (located in the ApplicationsU tilities folder), and then click Add Printer . 11 If you are using an Ap pleTalk network, on the pop- up menu, select AppleTalk . -Or- If you are using an LP R network, on the pop- up menu, select LPR Printer using IP , and then type th e IP address for the printer.
2-18 ENWW To enable optional accessories in the Mac OS Note Mac OS X automatically enables all optio nal accessories in the printer drive r when you install the print er software. 1 Click the printer ’ s desktop printer icon. 2 On the Printing menu, click Change Setup .
ENWW 3-1 3 Installing optional accessories The following accesso ries are available for the printer . z Multipur pose tray ( 100-sheet tr ay) z 700-sheet t ray (Tray 3) z Auto-duplex unit z HP Jetdire.
3-2 ENWW Installing the optional multipurpose tray Note To install the multipurpose tray, you must first remove the single sheet manual feed unit fr om the Tray 1 location at t he back of the printer . 1 Grasp the handle unde r the single sheet manual feed unit .
ENWW 3-3 Auto-duplex unit The printer can aut omatically print on both sides of pap er with the auto-duple x un it. If yo ur prin te r do es not ha ve an au to -d u ple x uni t, one can be purchased separately. For information about using the auto-duple x un it, se e “ Printing on both sides of the page .
3-4 ENWW 6 Insert Tray 2 into the Tr ay 2 case and push it firmly into the printer until it locks into place. Note If the tray will not close completely when it is reinserted, pull out the tray half-way, and then push it in again until it c loses completely.
ENWW 3-5 Step 1: Install the HP Jetdirect print server CA UTION The HP Jetdirect print server co ntains electronic componen ts that can be damaged by static elect ricity. To prevent buildup of static electric ity, maintain fr equent conta ct with any bare sh ee t metal surface on the prin ter.
3-6 ENWW Step 2: Verify that the printer works 1 Reconnect the powe r cord and turn on the pr inter. 2 Print a Configura tio n pa ge . a Press (select button) on t he LCD control panel. b Press (down arrow button) to highligh t INFORMAT ION , and then press (select but ton) .

In addition to t hese sources, printer informatio n an d configuration features are availa ble through HP Web Jetadmin.
3-8 ENWW Additional printer memory and font DIMMs If you often pr int complex gra phics or PostScript e mulation docu ments, or if you print with th e optional auto-d uplex unit, you might wa nt to add more memor y to th e pr int er. You can also inst all a fo nt DIM M to pr in t languages such as Japane se or Korean.
ENWW 3-9 To install memory and font DIMMs CA UTION DIMMs contain electronic compone nts that can be damaged by static electrici ty. To prevent buildup of static electricity, maintain frequent con tact wit h an y bare sh eet meta l sur face on th e p rinte r.
3-10 ENWW Note To remove a DIMM, the locks on the DIMM slot must be released by pushin g them ou twards. 8 Replace the cover and gently app ly pressure until the cover snaps into place. 9 Reattach the power cord an d any cables, and then turn on the printer .
ENWW 4-1 4 Setting printer options The LCD control panel allows you to change printer settings, view printer sta tus and printer messa ge s, and diagnose printe r problems. Additional me nu it ems can appe ar in th e LCD co ntro l pa nel , dep ending on the opt ions installe d in the pr inter.
4-2 ENWW 9 Ready light: Indicat es one of three possible states: On — The printer is online and r eady to accept print jobs . This state also indicates that the printer may have buffer ed data that it has finished processing bu t is waiting to receive mor e data.
ENWW 4-3 Changing LCD control panel menu settings The LCD control panel is on e of three ways to set options in the print er. You can also change o pt ions using settings in the printer driver and in the applications from which you print . Printer driver and applica tion settings override LCD control p anel settings for the curr ent print job.
4-4 ENWW Retrieve Job menu This menu displays all stored jo bs. You can scroll through the list to find and select a specific job . If the printer ha s no stored jobs, the LCD con trol panel d isplays the message NO STORE D JOBS .
ENWW 4-5 Paper Handling menu These settings cont rol the default media -selection options. However, printer drive r and software application setting s override LCD control panel setting s for the cu rrent print jo b. PRINT PC L FONT LIST This item prints the ava ilable PCL fonts.

Printing menu The items in this men u are used when pr inting fro m MS-DOS ® , UNIX, and Linux.

4-12 ENWW Print Quality menu This menu allows you to adjust aspects of print quality, including calibration, printh ead alignment, and qua lity level. . Messag e Value or Submenu Description ALIGN PRINTHEA DS N.A. This item begins the printhead alignment process.

4-14 ENWW CLEARABL E WARNINGS JOB ON This item allows you to set the length of time th at a clearable warning is displayed on the LCD control p anel. If JO B is selected, warn ing s are displayed until the end of the current job. If ON is selected, warnings are displaye d until you p ress (select butt on ).
ENWW 4-15 I/O menu The I/O m enu allows you to ma ke changes to printer inter face settings. Messag e Value o r Submenu Descrip tion I/O TIME OUT 5 - 300 This item sets the length of time (in seconds) that the pri nter waits for remaining data for a print job.
4-16 ENWW Resets menu You may need to reset the printer In the following circumst ances: z You want to restore the printe r ’ s default sett ing s. z Communication be tween the printer and computer has been interr upted. CA UTION When you use the restore fact ory settings option on this menu, you can lose pr inter configuration settings.
ENWW 4-17 Service menu This menu requ ir es ad m inis trator-lev el ac ce ss ri gh ts . Th es e item s should be used by trai ned service personnel only. Wh en prompted, press (up arrow button) an d (down arrow but ton) to ent er the PIN, and then pre s s (select button) to select an d confirm the PIN.
4-18 ENWW EIO menu The EIO (enhanced in put/output) men u appears only when an EIO device is installed (such as an HP Jetdirect pr int server). If the pr inter contains an HP Jetdirect print serve r, you can configure basic networkin g paramet ers using the EIO men u.
ENWW 4-19 Resetting the HP Jetdirect print server Resetting t he HP Jetdirect print se rver restores th e factory def ault values of the Jetdir e ct pr int se rve r . Note When you r estore th e factory d efault values for the HP Jetdirect print server, all previously stored EIO settings are lost.

ENWW 6-3 Supported media sizes The following table list s the sizes of media that are compatible with the printer and sh ows which sizes ca n be used with the printer ’ s paper trays and accessories. CA UTION Some media, such as envelopes and car ds, can be used with only Tray 1.

Gently push down the tray extension unti l it fits snugly but gently ag ainst the media.
6-10 ENWW The printer can aut omatically detect some medi a size s. When the printer detects the media size, only one size will appear in the TRAY 2 SIZE and TRAY 3 SIZ E options. If the size displayed in the LCD control pa nel does no t match the me dia you load ed in the tray, op en the tray and mak e sure the m ed ia sits as far in as possible.
ENWW 6-1 1 Using the printer driver Changing printer settings in Windows You can chan ge printer setting s from the LCD control panel, from the printer drive r, and from a software application. Note Settings in a soft ware application always take preceden ce over settings in the print er driver or the LCD con trol panel.
6-12 ENWW Changing printer settings in the Mac OS You can chan ge printer sett ing s in the LCD control pa nel or from the Page Setup and Print dialog boxe s in the Mac OS. Settings in the Mac OS overr i de settings in the LCD contro l panel. You can also select the def ault printer.
ENWW 6-13 Printing using the printer drivers In most situations, you will probably print documents using the printer driver. Althou gh specific option s vary depend ing on the software application you ar e using, you can usually gain access to the printer driver by clicking File , and then Prin t in the software application.
6-14 ENWW To print using the PCL 6 printer driver 1 On the File menu, click Print . 2 On the Name drop-down menu , select the PCL 6 printer driver , and then click Properties or Setup . (The optio ns might be differen t for your application.) 3 On the Size is drop-down menu, select t he media size on which you want to print.
ENWW 6-15 To print using the emulated PostScript printer driver Note For more informat ion about printing u sing the emulated PostScript printer driver, see “ Printing using PostScript emul ation .

ENWW 6-17 Printing on envelopes and cards Use Tray 1 to print envel opes and cards. If the opti onal multipurpose tray is inst alled in th e Tray 1 lo cation, you can load u p to 10 envelopes or 10 cards.
6-18 ENWW Printing on transparencies When printing on tr ansparencies, use th e following guidelines: z Use Tray 1 to print o n transpar encies. If the optiona l multipurpo se tray is not installed in th e Tray 1 location and you want to print multiple tra nsparencies, use Tray 2 or Tray 3.
ENWW 6-19 Printing on heavy media When printing on heavy media (up to 0.52 mm or 0.02 inch thick), u se Tray 1. It prov ides a straight-thr ough paper path tha t allows the printer to handle heavy or thick media without bendin g or curling the media.
6-20 ENWW Printing on custom size m edia z Use Tray 1 when printing on pa per that is 89 by 140 mm (3.5 by 5.5 inches) to 216 by 356 mm (8.5 by 14 inches). z Use the op tional multipur pose tray (i f installed) wh en printing o n paper that is 8 9 by 140 mm (3.

ENWW 7-1 7 Using remote diagnostics tools Using the Toolbox The Toolbox pr ovides status and maintenance information about your printer. I n addition, the Toolbox gives yo u step-by- step guidance f or basic printing tas ks an d pr ov ide s he lp fo r s olv ing proble m s.
7-2 ENWW Preferences Use the Preference s dialog box to select which Toolbox message s appear. You can specify whet her you want to be notified by an au dio alert when an erro r occurs, as well as the types of error message s you want to see, su ch as those messages abou t media and hardwa re.
ENWW 7-3 Using the embedded Web server The printer comes wit h an embedded Web server . When the printer is connecte d to a network, the emb edded Web server is automatically available.
7-4 ENWW Gaining access to the embedded Web server You can gain acce ss to the embedded Web server in the following ways: z Fr om the T oolbo x (Windo ws only) Launch th e embedded Web se rver from th e Information tab in the Toolbox. The defa ult Web browser for t he computer opens and displays the embedded Web server informa tion.
ENWW 7-5 z Supplies This section shows the life re maining of ink cartridges, wit h 0 percent represen ting a supp ly that is em pty. This s ection also provides supp lies part numbe rs. To order ne w supplies, click Order Supplies on the le ft side of the windo w.
7-6 ENWW Event Log This page sh ows t he most recent even ts and errors in t he printer event log. The mos t rec en t item ap pe a rs at the to p of the list. Usage Page z Identifi cation This section disp lays the printer serial num ber, product name, and service ID.
ENWW 7-7 Alerts The Alerts pages allow you to set up the printer to send out e-mail notification s when cer tain printer events oc cur. z Notification Distrib ution Lists This section allo ws you to ad d the e-mail addresses of the peop le who will receiv e electronic notification of printer e v ents , such as ink supplies and media pa th e v ents.
7-8 ENWW AutoSend AutoSend is a feature that ca n he lp you understa nd you r printing patterns . When you enab le AutoSend, us age informa tion is sent to HP.
ENWW 7-9 Networking The Netw orking page s of the embedded We b server allow the ne twork administra tor to con figure the HP Jetdire ct print ser ver for th e printer. This tab will not appear if the printer is connected to a network using anything other than an HP Jet direct print server card .
