If the computer is communicating w ith 7 bit w o rd size w ith pari ty enabled, the 8th or pari ty bit is masked from the Port Sel ect Code before it is ex amined, all owi ng y ou to send the Port Sel ect Code w ith odd or ev en parit y. Factory default is $SELECT.
The Model 24SII DES will translate for serial devices using different configurati ons. This al low s y ou to mix -and- match dev ices hav ing different configurations.
& The Model 24SII DES has four For m Feed Modes allow ing y ou to determine w hen form feed occurs at the printers you ar e selecting : at the beginni ng of printing , at the end of printing , or both. This feature is useful w hen sending D OS files to a laser pr inter.
The Model 24SII Data Ex change System allow s peripheral (pr inter, plotter) shar ing , specific peripher al selecti on or peripher al contention, and buff e ring of print data.
In multiple pr inter appli cations, the M odel 24SII DES g iv es you the capability of sending print jobs to the first available printer (contention mode).
The Model 24SII DES pow ers-up from the factory in contention mode. .
The port select seq uence may be sent as a separ ate ASCII file preceding the print job, v ia DOS batch files, as part of a printer initialization strin g, or by using the u tility software.
In Port Select Mode B (printer sel ection at begi nning of pri nting) , a print j ob is ended only when no characters are recei v ed by the M odel 24SII DES from the computer for the specified Input Inactiv ity Timeout period onl y. CA UTION: The Input Inactivi ty Ti meout should not be set to 0 (z ero) seconds (disabl ed) in Port Sel ect Mode B.
If a computer wishes to cl ear the buffer, the computer sends the Port Select Code follow ed by CLR and a terminating character (Enter/Retur n or Line Feed) to the Model 24SII D ES. This comm and will only affect print jobs originated by that particular computer.
The Model 24SII Data Ex change System allow s pairs of computers (or computers and other dev ices such as modems, scales, data collection eq uipment, etc.
Do not send both Enter/Retur n and Line Feed as the terminati ng character. The M odel 24SII DES looks for either Enter/Retur n or Line Feed as the terminating character, but not both.
NOTE: Using R AMEX EC to select another computer port is not sugg ested. This is because R AMEX EC does not prov ide full duplex communication so y ou cannot see the On Line or Busy message if you attempt to use R AMEX EC to deter mine w hether or not you g ot connection to the other computer por t.
For ex ample, suppose y ou want to communi cate w ith a 2400 baud modem connected to Port 2 of Module 2 and y our PC i s connected to a computer port set at the M odel 24SII's factory default seri al configuration ( 9600 baud, 8 data bit, 1 stop bit, no par ity , and XON/X OFF disabl ed).
