ARP is the simplest method of configuring the Print / Fa x server IP address.

Press [Menu] then press the appropriate number for LAN, based on t he selections displayed on your machine.

If set to a non-zero value, the machine will contact this server to register its nam e w ith the Wind ow s ® Internet Name Service.

You can also use t he NetBIOS name (Host Name) of the Brother network b oard if you are in Microsoft Windo ws ® domain/Workgroup environment (WI NS Config/WINS Server must already be set).
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-1 4 41 CHAPTER F OUR Inter net F AX Ov erview Internet Faxing (I-FAX) allows you to send and receive FAX d ocuments using the Internet as the transport mech anism. Documents are transmitted in E-mail messages as attached TIFF- F files.
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-2 Getting Connected Before sending or receiving an Internet Fax you must configure your Brother MFC to comm unicate with your networ k and mail server.
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-3 Sending an Internet F ax 1. Set the docume nt that you wish to send int o the auto feeder of the Brother MFC. When using the MFC over a network, documents will be transmitted an d printed in Standard or Fi ne mode (i.e. 200 × 1 00 / 200 × 200DPI).

CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-5 After the document is scanned, it is transmitted to the Recipient Intern et Fax Machine automatical ly via your SMTP serv er. You can cancel the send operation by pressing the [Stop] but ton during scanning. Aft er the transmission is finished, the machine will return to standby mode.
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-6 Receivin g E-mail or Inter net F ax There are 2 ways y ou can receive E-mail messages: • POP3 receiving at regular intervals • POP3 receiving (manually initiated) Using POP3 receiving the MF C machine must poll the E-mail server to receive the print jobs.
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-7 Receivin g an Inter net F ax to a PC When a PC r eceives an Internet Fax docume nt, the document is attached to a mail message that informs the P C that it is receiving a document from an Internet Fax. This is notified in the Subject field of the received mail message.
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-8 Relay Br oadcasting This function allows the Brother MF C to receive a document over the Internet, and then relay it to ot her fax machines through co nventional telephone li nes.

For exam ple: Store UKFAX@ brother.co.uk(Fax#123) in O ne-Touch Dial key 01 an d store UKFAX@brother. co.uk(Fax#456) in One-T ouch Dial key 02. You ca n then press the One-Touch D ial Key for each numb er instead on entering each individual number.
CHAPTER 4 INTERNET FAX 4-11 TX V erif ication Mail Transmission Verifi cation Mail supports two separate functions. Verification Mail for sending allows you request notification from the receiving station that the I-Fax or E-mail was received and processed .

This chapter describes t he two most commonly used configurations, Standard TC P/IP Port printing and IPP (Int ernet Printing Protocol).
