1 Getting started Use this secti on to get famil iar with camera cont rols, set up your dig ital camera for use, and begin taking pict ures. Turn on the camera To turn on the camera , slide the lens cover open unti l it clicks, uncovering the lens. To turn off the ca mera, slide the lens cover closed unt il it clicks, covering the lens. Caution When sliding the lens cover, keep your fingers clear of the l ens.
Install and f ormat an optional m emory card This camera supports standard and hig h speed, HP-brand ed Secure Digital (SD ) memory cards, 16MB to 1GB. 1. Turn off the camera a nd open the Battery/Memory card do or. 2. Insert the optional me mory card in the small slot as shown.
1. Close all programs and temporarily disable any virus protection so ftware. 2. Insert the HP Photosmart Soft ware CD into the CD dri ve and follow the on-screen instructions. If th e installation screen do es not appear, click Start , click Run , type D:Setup.
2 Taking pictures and recording video clips Live View allo ws you to frame pictures and vi deo clips in the Imag e Display. To activat e Live View , press until appears b riefly in the upper right corner of the Image Display. The Live View di splay looks like t his: 1 Battery level indicator (see Power indicators on page 27 ).

Using the Capture Menu The Capture Menu a llows you to adjust camera settings tha t affect the characteri stics of the images and video clips you capture. 1. While in Live View or Playback , press , then use to highlight . 2. Use to highlight a me nu option, then press to display the men u option’s sub-menu.
● 2MP —For printing images up to 13 x 18 cm (5 by 7 in). ● VGA —For sen ding images via e-mai l or posting them to the In ternet. The Image Qua lity setting remains i n effect until you change it, even if you turn off the camera. Date & Time Imp rint —Imprints date in lower l eft corner of image.
Note To add audi o to images taken with the Self-Timer setting, see Recording audio on page 1 7 . The Self-Timer setting rese ts to the default Auto sho oting mode after the picture is taken.
3 Reviewing images and video clips You can review and delet e images and video clips in Playback as described here. Using Playback 1. Press until appears in the uppe r right corner of the Image Display. 2. Use to scroll through your image s and video clips (vide o clips play automatica lly).
Deleting images To delete a displ ayed image during Playback : 1. Press . 2. Use to select an option, then p ress . – Cancel —Ret urns to Playback wit hout deleting the d isplayed image. – This Image —Delet es the image or video clip. – All Images (in Memory/on Card) —Deletes al l stored images and video clips.
Magnifying images This feature is f or viewing purposes only; it does n ot permanently al ter the image. 1. From the Playback Men u , select Magni fy . The currently displayed image is magnifi ed 2x. 2. Use and to pan arou nd the magnified image. 3. Press to increase magnificatio n up to 4x.
4 Transferring and printing images You can transfer im ages and video cl ips with or wit hout the HP Phot osmart Software that came with your camera. However, t he HP Photosmart Sof tware has several features for transferring and manag ing your images and al so guides you through the transfer process.
Note On Macintosh comput ers, if you set the camera to Disk Drive and neither Image Capture nor iPhoto sta rts automatical ly, lo ok on the desktop for a disk dri ve icon with the label HP_ E427 and copy th e images manu ally. For more i nformation about how to copy fi les, visit Mac help.
5 Using the Setup Menu The Setup Menu allows you to set preference s for the camera’s behavior. 1. While in Live View or Playback , press , then use to highlight . 2. Use to highlight a me nu option, then press to display the men u option’s sub-menu.

The camera does not respo nd when I press a bu tton. ● Turn on the camera . ● Most of the camera bu ttons do not respond when t he camera is connecte d to a computer. ● Replace o r recharge the batteries. ● Reset the camera (see Resetti ng the camera on page 21 ).
My image is grainy. ● Use a lower ISO S peed setting (see ISO Speed under Using the Capt ure Menu on page 12 ). ● Add indirect lightin g, use the flash (see Flash Setti ng unde r Using the Capture Menu on page 12 ), or wai t for natural lightin g conditions to impr ove.

A Managing batteries Your camera uses two AA batteries, either Alka line, Photo Lithium, or rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH). Alkaline batteries provide far le ss battery life than either Photo Lithium or NiMH batteries. Top points about batteries ● Fully charge NiMH batteries before using them for the fir s t time.
