Purpose and scope This software technical reference (STR) provides information about, and troubleshooting tips for, the printing-system software for the product.
Software availability and localization This section provides information about the avail ability of the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer printing-sys tem software and related software and fi rmware. Printing-system software on a CD is available from HP fulfillment centers.

2 Windows software description Introduction The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP 5520 Series Printer produ ct comes with software and installers for Microsoft Windows and Apple Computer, Inc., Ma cintosh syste ms. Linux and UNIX systems are supported, and software is avail able on the Web.
Advanced color use Color Access Control The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer has the ability to monitor and control color print-job use. For more information about color acce ss control, go to the following Web site and loo k under Learn More .

HP Print View Software Use HP Print View softwa re to change various pr int settings and see immediately how those changes affect your document. When you are satisfied with the print settings, print the job directly from HP Print View to your supported and networked printer.

HP Driver Deployment Utility The HP Driver Deployment Utility (HP DDU) was created to simplify the deployment of print drivers onto a client computer. It is a simple utility that packages the printer-driver files, and the code needed to deploy them, into 2 files: an .
HP Driver Configuration Utility The HP Driver Configuration Utility (DCU) is a smal l Windows applicatio n used to edit the configuration file associated w ith a particular driver . The configurati on file controls the print driver settings and takes effect when the driver is installed.

3 Install Windows software and utilities Introduction The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP 5520 Series Printer produ ct comes with software and installers for Microsoft Windows and Apple, Inc., Macintosh syst ems. Linux and UNIX systems are supported, and software is available on the Web.
Supported operating systems for Windows Windows operating systems provide full-featured support fo r the HP Color Lase rJet Enterprise CP 5520 Series Printer product. Operating syst ems that are not described here provide varying levels of functionality.
System requirements The system requirements for installing and using the HP Color Laser Jet Enterpris e CP5520 Series Printer printing-system software for Wind ows and Macintosh a re as follows: ● S.
Install overview The software for the produc t comes on a single CD. The software in staller first checks the versions of Windows In staller and Mi crosoft .NET ins talled on the system, and then inst alls the printing-system software from the CD onto the hard disk a nd updates Windows files.
Installation options The printing-system software can be used with the product in the following configurations: ● Install the printing-system software on a computer that is dire ctly connected to the product through a USB port.
Detailed Microsoft Windows installation instructions The dialog boxes shown here appear in the Windows XP Professional installation sequence. The order and appearance of dialog boxes can vary among operating systems.
4. Read the license agr eement, select the I have review ed and accept the installation agreements check box, and then click the Next button to continue to the Connection Type screen. 5. Select a connection type option on the Connection Type screen, based on how the product connects to the computer.
b. Connect the product to the computer when prompted at the Co nnect your Product now screen. c. Click the Next button. ● For wired network connected products, follow these steps: a. 6. When the installation completes, the following scr een appears. Register your produc t by selecting the Register this product with HP chec k box, make this product your default pr oduct by selecting the Set as default printer check box, and send a test page to the produc t by selecting the Print a test page check box.
Use the Back, Next, Fini sh, and Cancel buttons The following buttons appear on various dial og boxes during the installatio n process. ● Back . Click this button to return to the previous dialog box. ● Next . After you select any options on a given screen, click this butto n to procee d to the next step in the installation sequence.
Install optional software Use the following steps to install optional software progr ams: 1. Insert the HP Color LaserJe t CP5525n software CD into the CD- ROM drive. The installer program should open. If the installer program has not started after 30 seconds , complete these steps: a.

Uninstall software NOTE: If the printer driver was insta lled by using the HP Driver Installation Utili ty, follow the instructions in the Uninstall the printer driver by using the Windows Add or Remove P rograms feat ure on page 31 .
Uninstall the printer driver by using the Windows Add or Remove Programs feature If the printer driver was installed by the HP Driver Installation Utility (HP DIU), perfor m the following to uninstall the driver: NOTE: You do not need the HP Color LaserJet CP55 25n printing-system software CD to use this uninstall method.

4 HP PCL 6 print driver for Windows Introduction This chapter describes the features of the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer PCL 6 Print Driver for, Windows XP (32-bit), Windo ws Server 2003 (32-bit) , Windows Server 2008 (32-bit and 64-bit), Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-b it), and Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit).

Advanced tab features NOTE: The Advanced tab is located on the Printing Preferences tab set. Use the Advanced tab to change the layout of printed pages.
Copy Count Copy Count specifies the number of copies to print. This driver setting is usef ul fo r software programs that do not provide a co py count. If a co py count is ava ilable in the softwa re program, set the copy count in the software program.
Document Options The Document Options setting contains th e following controls: ● Advanced Printing Features ● Print Optimizations ● Printer Features ● Layout Options Advanced Printing Fe atur.
Printer Features The Printer Features setting contains th e following controls: ● Print All Text as Black The feature is Disabled by default. When Enabled is selec ted, the driver pr ints all text as blac k regardless of the original document text color.
Page Order specifies the order in which the pa ges of your document are printed. Front to Back prints the document so that page 1 prints first. Back to Front prints the document so that page 1 prints last. NOTE: The page-ordering operation works on whole sheets of paper rather than on individual logical pages.

You can also use this tab to specify different paper selections fo r the front cover, first page, othe r pages, last pa ge, and back cover of the document.
Paper Options The settings specified in the Paper Options group box on the Paper/Quality tab apply to all of the pages of the document. The following figure shows the Paper Options group box and the selections that are available by default .

Use the Covers options to include a blank or preprinted cover on a document, or to include a front/ back cover from a source tray that is different fr om the one used for the re mainder of the document. Document preview imag e The document preview image is a line-drawn image of a page that represents graphics and text. The document preview image is always oriented so that the contents of the page are right-side-up.
Effects tab features NOTE: The Effects tab is located on the Printing Preferences tab set. Use the Effects tab to create unique paper ef fects such as scaling and wate rmarks.
Resizing Options The Resizing Options group box consists of the following controls: ● Actual Size (default) ● Print Document On ● Scale to Fit ● % of Actual S ize Actual Size Actual Size is the default setting. It prints the do cument without changing the document size.

To delete a wa termark, se lect the watermark in the Current Watermarks list, and then click Delete . A warning appears asking whether y ou are sure you want to delete the selected item. Click Cancel if you want to keep the watermark. Click OK to delete the selected watermark.

◦ Envelope C6 ◦ Envelope DL Print on both sides automatically The duplexing unit in the HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer product prints on two sides of a sheet of paper when the Print on Both Sides option is specified in the print job.
Select the paper t ype that corresponds to the paper that you are using for the print job. The following paper types have a different p rint modes when you manually pri nt on the secon d side: ● Pla.
Figure 4-15 Print on Both Sides Instruct ions dialog box When you have completed the steps that appear in the dialog box, the second half of the print job prints on the back side of the stack of paper. The driver does not require the program to specifically support odd- and even-page printing, becaus e the driver coordinates this function.
Booklet Layout The Booklet Layout drop-down menu, visible when Print on Both Sides is selected, offers choices that are based on the current paper size.
Print Page Borders Print Page Borders sets a line around each page image on a printed sheet to help visually define the borders of each logic al page. Page Order The Page Order drop-down menu contains.
Switching between tabs does not change the location or ap pearance of th e document preview image. When you move the mou se over the document p review image, the mouse curs or changes from an arrow to a gloved hand. You can toggle between port rait and landsc ape page orientation by clicking the image.
Job Storage tab features NOTE: The Job Storage tab is located on the Printing Preferences tab set or the Properties tab set. Use the job-storage feature to store print jobs in the HP Color LaserJet Enterpri se CP5520 Series Pr inter product memory or hard disk for printing at a later time.

After it is released for printing, the proof-and-hold job is immediately deleted from the product. If more copies are needed , you must rep rint the job from th e software program.
Stored Job To use the Stored Job option, a hard disk must be installed on the product an d the job-storage feature must be en abled. Use the Stored Job option to send a print job directly to th e printer hard disk without printing it. The print job is stored in the product as if it is an electronic file cabinet.
User Name Use the User Name settings to help identify the job at the product control panel. The following are the User Name settings: ● User Name. This option associates your Windows us er name with the stored print job. The Windows user name auto matically appears in th e text field below the User Name options.
Use job-storage features when printing To use job- storage features when printing, follow these step s: 1. Click File , and then click Print from the softwar e program. The Print dialog box appears. NOTE: Clicking the print icon in the software program toolbar prints the job without using job- storage features.
Delete a job-storage print job Sometimes it is necessary to delete a print job fr om the printer hard disk. You can do this from the product control panel. 1. Press the Home button to open the menus. 2. Press the up arrow or the down arrow until Retrieve Job From Device Memory is highlighted on the prod uct control panel, and then pr ess OK .
Color tab features NOTE: The Color tab is located on the Printing Preferences tab set. Use the Color tab to specify predefined colo r-opti on settings o r to fine -tune the color treatments and halftoning. Color output can also be converted to grayscale.
Color Options Use the Color Options group box to adjust the inde pendent color controls. The settings affect the print job color re ndering and print qu ality. The Color Options group box contains the following co ntrols: ● Automatic option (default) ● Manual option ● Settings button (Click this button to open the Color Settings dialog box.

General Use the General setting group to control Edge Control settings for all color printing. Edge Control determines how edges are rendered. Edge Control consists of three components: ● Adaptive H.
The following Halftone options are a vailable: ● Detail . This is the default option; it is useful fo r text and graphics that require sharp distinctions among lines or colors, or for images that contain a pattern or a high level of detail. Select this option for sharp edges and detail.
Vivid (sRGB) The Vivid (sRGB) feature instructs the printer to increase the color saturation in the midtones. Less colorful objects are rendered more colorful ly. This value i s recommended fo r pr inting business graphics . None Select None to instruct the printer to print RGB data in raw dev ice mode.
HP EasyColor If you are using the HP PCL 6 printer driver for Windows, the HP EasyColor technology automatically improves mixed-content documents that are printed from M icrosoft Off ice programs . This technolog y scans documents and automatically adjusts phot ographic images in .

Services tab features NOTE: The Services tab is located on the Printing Preferences tab set or the Properties tab set. The Services tab is shown in the following figure.
● Product manuals . View or download HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer product manu als. ● Check for driver updates . Automatically check yo ur print drivers to see whether the correct and most up-to-date print drivers are installed.
Device Settings tab features NOTE: The Device Settings tab is located on the Properties tab set. Available options depend on the feat ure. The following fi gure shows the Device Settings tab.
The trays listed in the Form to Tray Assignment setting include standard trays and optional accessory trays. Generally, items that ar e installed separately have a separate Installable Options setting. The input trays listed here are also listed as paper source s on the Paper/Quality tab.
Click the External Fonts option to make the Properties button available. Click Properties to open the HP Font Installer dialog box, which is shown in the fo llowing figure. Figure 4-24 HP Font Installer dialog box Installing external fonts Follow these steps to install external fonts.
Removing external fonts 1. In Windows Vista and Wind ows 7, click the Star t button, click Control Panel , click Hardware and Sound , and then c lick Printer s . In Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows Server 2008, click Start , click Settings , and then clic k Printers and Faxes .
Automatic Configuration Use the Device Settings tab to tell the driver ab out the hardwa re configuration of the product. If bidirectional communication is enab led in a supported env ironment, up date this tab by selecting the Update Now setting in the Automatic Configuration setting.
NOTE: The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer product supports smart duplexing. The product uses the smart duplexing feature to detect in formation on both sides of the print job pages and only runs the pages through the duplexing unit if printable information appears on the second side of the page.

5 Macintosh software and utilities Introduction The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise CP5520 Series Printer comes with software and installers for Apple, Inc.
Determine the Mac driver version Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6 1. From the Apple menu , click the System Preferences menu and then clic k the Print & Fax icon. 2. Select the product in the left side of the window. 3. Click the Options & Supplies button.
Supported operating systems for Macintosh The product supports the following Mac operating systems: ● Mac OS X 10.4, 10.5, 10.6, and later NOTE: For Mac OS X 10 .
Change printer-driver settings for Mac Change the sett ings for all pr int jobs until the software program is closed Change the default settings for all print jobs Change the product configuration settings 1. On the File menu, click the Print button. 2.
● Set a password for the product. ● From the computer, lock out functions on the contro l panel to prevent unauthorized acc ess (see the printing-softw are help). Macintosh installation instructions On a Macintos h computer, the i nstallation p roc edures are b asically the same fo r a network administrator, a network client, an d a single user. Install the softwa re on any computer that has save rights to the product.
3. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the software installation. NOTE: If you are installing the printing-system soft ware on a Macintosh OS X system, be patient. The installer must per form an initial search of the computer for up to 1 minute.

9. Click the Go Bac k button to go back to the previous screen. To change the installation location, click the Change Install Location button, navigate to the desired location, click the Continue button, and then click the Inst all button. Go to step 9.

If the Network Address button is not visible, you can fi nd the IP address or host name by printing a configuration page. i. At the product control panel, scroll to and touch the Administration button. ii. Open the following menus: ● Reports ● Configuration/Status Pages ● Configur ation Page iii.
7. In the Optional Trays: drop-down menu, select the trays th at are installed on the product. In Mac OSv 10.5 and v10.6 each tray is listed with a checkbox. 8. For Mac OS v10.4: In the Collation in Printer: drop-down menu, select the amount of memory and hard disk combination that is installed in the product.
If these st eps do not resolve the problem, delete the incorrect print queue, click Add , choose the product from the list, and then br owse manually for the product PPD. Remove software from Mac operating systems You must have administrator rights to remove the software.
HP Printer Utility for Mac The HP Printer Utility is a software program that gives you access to th e product in Mac OS X. The HP Printer Utility does not work when it is inst alled by us ing the AppleTa lk protocol . Use IP, Bonj our or Rendezvous to enable the HP Printer Utility.
Access to the HP (Printer) Utility In Mac OS X v10.4, v10.5, v 10.6, and later, foll ow these steps to gain access to the HP (Printer) Utility: 1. Mac OS X 10.4 and a bove: Open the Finder, c lick Applications , c lick Utilities , and then double-click Printer Setup Utility .
Supplies Status In the Information And Support section of the HP Utility, click Supplies Status to open the Supplies Status screen. The method for downloading remote firmware updates from the Web site is similar to that us ed to download the latest pr inting-system software and printer drivers. NOTE: Firmware for the embedded Jetdirect prin t server updates when th e product firmware is updated.
Use the HP Embedded Web Server 1. Open a brow ser window . 2. Enter the product IP address in the URL li ne to open the HP Embedded Web Server. 3. Click the Troubleshooting tab, and then click the Firmware Upgrade link.
Use the walkup USB port and the Device Maintenance menu 1. Download the .EXE file from the Web, and then un compress the .EXE file to gain access to the readme file and the .bdl upgrade file. 2. Copy the .bdl firmware upgrade file to a portable USB flash memory storag e device (thumb drive).
