2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP Al l-in-One to quickly and easily make copies, scan docum ents, or print photos from a memory card. HP papers th at are specifically designed for th e type of project you are printing pr oduce the best results.

4 Finish setting up the HP All-in- One After you have completed the steps in your Setup Guide, re fer to this section to help you finish setting up the HP All-in-One. This section contains important setup -related information f or your device, including inform ation on setting preferences.

6 Load originals and load paper You can load many differen t types and sizes of paper in the HP All-in-One, in cluding letter or A4 paper, legal paper, p hoto paper, transparencie s, envelopes, and HP CD/D VD tattoo labels.
Choose papers for printing and copying You can use differ ent types and si zes of paper in the HP All -in-One. Review the foll owing recommendati ons to get the best printing and copying quality. W henever you change paper types or si zes, remember to change those settings.
HP Premium Ink jet Paper HP Premium Inkjet Paper is the ultimate coated paper fo r high-resolution usage. A smooth, matte fini sh makes it ideal for your hi ghest-quality documents. HP Bright Whit e Inkjet Paper HP Bright White In kjet Paper delivers high-c ontrast colors and sharp text.

4. Slide the paper-w idth and paper-length gui des inward until they stop at the edges of the paper. Do not overload t he main input tray; make sure the stack of paper fits within the input tray and is no hi gher than the top of the paper-wi dth guide.
2. Insert the st ack of photo paper in to the photo tray w ith the short edge fo rward and the print side down. Slide t he stack of photo paper forward until it stops. If the phot o paper you are using has perforated tab s, load the photo paper so that the tabs are closest to you.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-in-On e can be used with any software ap plication that all ows printing. You can print a range of proje cts, such as borderless imag es, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and posters.
5. Select the appropriate options for your prin t job by using the features avai lable in the Advanced , Printing Shortcuts , Features , and Color tabs. TIP: You can easily sel ect the appropriate op tions for your print job by choosing one of the predefi ned print tasks on the Printing Shortcuts tab.

Print using Maximum dpi Use Maximum dpi mode to print high-qua lity, sharp images . To get the most bene fit from Maximum dpi mode, use it to print high-quality imag es such as digital phot ographs. When you select the Maximum dpi setti ng, the prin ter software displays the optim ized dots per inch (dpi) that the HP Al l-in-One will print.
Print a multiple-page document as a booklet The HP All-in-One a llows you to print your document as a sm all booklet, which you can fold and then staple together. For best results, design your docume nt to fit on a multiple of four p ages, such as an 8, 12, or 16-page program f or a child's school play or for a weddin g.

Print a poster You can create a poster by print ing a document on multiple pages. The HP All-in-One prints dotted l ines on some pages to ind icate where to trim the pages before taping them together. To print a poster 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the input tra y.
To print a Web page 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the main input tray. 2. On the File menu in your Web browser, cli ck Print . The Print dial og box appears. 3. Make sure the HP All-in-One is the selected printer. 4. If your Web browser support s it, select the items on t he Web page that you want to include in t he printout.

8 Use the photo features The HP All-in-On e is equipped with memory card slot s that enable you to print or edit photos from a memory card w ithout uploading your photos to a com puter first.

• Automaticall y enhance your photos • Fix a faded orig inal Zoom and pan to cr op a photo The HP All-in-One enabl es you to zoom in or out on a specific area of a photo. Wh en you print the photo, the photo is cropped so onl y the area shown on the display prints.
To rotate a photo 1. Insert a memory card int o the appropriate slot on the HP All -in-One. The Photosmart Express menu appea rs, with the most recent photo shown on the display. 2. With View highlighted, press OK . You can use or for highlighting opti ons.
Print a frame around your photo You can print a decorative colored border around the outside edge o f your photo to frame the photo. NOTE: The changes you make t o the photo apply only to viewing and pri nting the photo. The chang es will not be saved on the memory card.
6. In the Photo Opti ons menu, use or to highlight Edit P hoto , and then press OK . The Edit Photo menu appears. 7. Use or to highlight Color Effect , and then press OK .

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the process o f converting text and pictures into an electronic forma t for your computer. You can scan almost anythin g (photos, magazine articles and text documents) on the HP All-in -One.
To chang e print sett ings bef ore repri nting your or iginal pho to a .P r e s s OK to change pri nt settings. To scan to a computer 1. Load your original print side down on the right front corner of the glass. 2. Press Scan Menu on the control panel. 3. Press to highlight Scan to Computer , and then press OK . 4. If the HP All-in-O ne is connected to one or more comp uters on a network, do the following: a .

10 Use the copy features The HP All-in-O ne enables you to produce hi gh-quality color and black-an d-white copies on a variety of paper types, includin g transparencies.

Resize an original to fit onto letter or A4 paper You can use the Fit to Page feature to copy an original to fit withi n the printable margins of a page withou t the risk of cropping some part of your orig inal. This is useful for red ucing or enlarging an origina l.
6. Press or to select a percentage to reduce or enl arge the copy. (The minimum and maximum percentage to resize a copy varies by model.) 7. Press OK . Crop an original After changing se ttings on the HP All-in-O ne for making a copy, you can use the crop feature to spe cify a particular area of the ori ginal to copy.
The Mixed enhancement is the default option. Use the Mixed enhancement to sharpen edges of most ori ginals. You can use Photo enhancements to enhance light colors th at might otherwi se appear white.

Print forms The HP All-in-One con tains built-in templates that enab le you to print common forms, such as narrow or wide ruled notebook paper, graph paper, task checklists, and music sheets on plain lett er- or A4-size paper. To print forms from the control panel 1.
12 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All-in -One requires l ittle maintena nce. Sometimes you mi ght want to clean the glass and lid backing to re move surface dust and ensure tha t your copies and scans remain clear. You will also ne ed to replace ink cartridges, clean the print head assembly, or align the print er from time to time.
Clean the l id backing Minor debris can accumulate on the white document backing locate d underneath the lid of the HP All-in-O ne. To clean the lid b acking 1. Turn off the HP All -in-One, and raise the lid. 2. Clean the whi te document backing with a so ft cloth or sponge slightly moiste ned with a mild soap and warm water.
3. Press to highlight Display In k Gauge , and then press OK . The HP All-in-On e displays a gauge that shows t he estimated ink levels of a ll cartridges installed. 4. Press any bu tton to return t o the Tools menu. To check the ink leve ls from the HP Photosmart Software 1.
NOTE: If you are in stalling ink cartridges in th e HP All-in-O ne for the first tim e, be sure to use only the ink cartridges th at came with the device. The ink in these cartridges is specially f ormulated to mix with the ink in the pri nt head assembly at first- time setup .
If you are replacing one of the five color ink cartridges, such as yellow, light cyan (blue), cyan, li ght magenta (pink), or magent a, lift the appropriate lat ch in the center area. 1 Ink cartridge latch for the black ink cartridge 2 Ink cartridge latches for the color ink cartrid ges 4.
5. Remove the new in k cartridge from its packaging, and th en, holding it by the handl e, push the ink cartridge in to the empty slot. Match the color and pa ttern of the ink cartridge to the color and pattern on the pr int carriage. 6. Close the latch and make sure it is secure.

Press to highlight Clea n Printhead , and then press OK . The HP All-in-One cleans the print head and prints a pa ge that you can recycle or discard.
To clean the ink ca rtridge contacts 1. Make sure the HP All- in-One is turned on. 2. Lift the ink ca rtridge door. 3. Squeeze the bottom of th e latch below the ink cartridge you wan t to clean, and then lift the latch. NOTE: Do not remove mul tiple ink cartridges at the sam e time.
Remove ink from your sk in and clothing Follow these instructio ns to remove ink from your skin and clothi ng: Surface Remedy Skin Wash the area with an abrasive soap. White fabric Wash the fabric in co ld water and use chlorine bleach. Color fabric Wa sh the fabric in cold water and use sudsy a mmonia.
13 Shop for ink supplies For a list of ink cartrid ge numbers, see the printed documentati on that came with the HP All-in-One . You can also use the software that came wi th the HP All-in-One to find out the reorde r number for all the ink cartridges.

sure the other end o f the USB cable is plugged into a USB port on your computer. After the cable is conn ected properly, turn the HP All-in-O ne off and then on again. • If you are connecti ng the HP All-in-One through a USB hub, make sure the hub i s turned on .
• Do not clean the prin t head unnecessarily. This wastes i nk and shortens the life of the cartridges. • Handle ink cartridges carefu lly. Dropping, jarring, or rough handl ing during installation can cause temporary printing problems. Informat ion on paper The HP All-in-One is d esigned to work well with most paper types.
3. Gently pull the paper out of the rollers. CAUTION: If the paper tears when you are removing it from the ro llers, check the rollers and wheels for torn pieces of paper that might be remaining insi de the device. If you do no t remove all the pieces of paper from the HP All-in-One, more paper jams are likel y to occur.
The HP All-in-One w ill not turn on Cause: The HP Al l-in-One is not properly connected to a power supply. Solution: • Make sure the power cord is fi rmly connected to both the HP All-in-One and th e power adapter. Pl ug the power co rd into a grou nded power outl et, surge protector, or power strip.
I connected the USB cable, but I am having prob lems using the HP All-in-One w ith my computer Cause: The USB cable was connected befo re the software was installed . Connecting the USB cabl e before prompted can cause er rors. Solution: You must first install the software that came with the H P All-in-One before connecting the U SB cable.
Solution: You can change the country/ region settings from the Preferences menu. For more information, see: “ Set your lang uage and country/regi on” on page 15 I received a mess age on the displa.

Solution: If the pap er is too close to the p rint head during printing , the ink might be smeared. This ca n happen if the paper is ra ised, wrinkle d, or very thick, such a s a mailing envelope. Make sure the paper lays flat in the input t ray and is not wrinkled.
NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non -HP ink. Printer service or repa irs required as a result of printer failure or d amage attributable to the use of non -HP ink will not be covered under warrant y. The text ed ges are jagged Cause: The font is a custom size.
Solution: Load paper wi th the side you want to print on facing down. For example, if you are loading glossy photo paper, load the paper with the glossy side down. For more information, see: “ Load paper” on p age 36 Cause: You are using non-HP ink.
If the problem persists, use the software you installed with the HP All-in-One or another softwa re application to rotate you r image 180 degrees so tha t the light blue, gray, or brown hues in your im age do not print at the bottom o f the page.

HP Photosmart Softwar e. The copies mi ght not be damaged. If th ese solutions do not work, reta ke the photo s with your digi tal camera as a last resort.
Cause: The fi le system is co rrupted. Solution: Check the di splay for an error message telling you that the images on t he memory card a re corrupted. If the file system on the card is corr upt, reformat the memory card in your digital camera. CAUTION: Reformatting the memory card will delete any photos stored on t he card.
Solution: Remove all but o ne memory card. The HP Al l-in-One reads the remainin g memory card and displays the f irst photo stored on the memory card. Cause: You have inserted a Compact Flash memory c ard backwards or upsi de down. Solution: Remove the memo ry card and reinsert it correctly.
Solution: Make sure you fully insert the memory card int o the appropriate slot on the HP All-in-O ne, and then try the task ag ain. Card access error Cause: There are two or more memory cards inserted into the HP All-in-One at the same time. Solution: Remove all but one memory card.
If the memory card is not inserted properly, the HP All-in-One will not respond and the Photo light (ne ar the memory card slots) will not turn on. After the memory card has been inserted properly, the Ph oto light will blink for a few seconds, and then remai n lit.

Paper mismatch Cause: The print setting for the print job does not ma tch the pape r type or siz e loaded in the HP All-in-One. Solution: Change the print se tting or load the appropriate paper in the input t ray.
Solution: If t he HP All-in-One is not properly conne cted to the computer, communication errors can occu r. Make sure the USB cabl e is securely connected to the HP All-in-O ne and the computer, as shown be low.
Improper shutdown Cause: The last time the HP All -in-One was used, it was not tu rned off properly. If the HP All-in-One is turned off by turning off the switch on a pow er strip or by using a wall switch, the device can be damaged. Solution: Press the On button located on th e control panel of th e HP All-in-One to turn the device on an d off.

Each ink cartridge has an expirat ion date. The purpose of expiratio n is to protect the printing system and t o ensure ink quality. When you receive an ink cartridge(s) are expired message, re move and replace the expired ink cartridge, and then close the message.
HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink cartridg es. Genuine HP ink cartridges are designed a nd tested with HP printe rs to help you easily pr oduce great results, time after time. NOTE: HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non -HP ink.
Alignment failed Cause: An incorrect type of paper is loaded in the input t ray. Solution: If you have color o r photo paper loaded in the in put tray when you align the printer, the a lignment might fail. Load unused plain white le tter or A4 paper into the input t ray, and then tr y the alignment again.
To resolve this error, replace the affected ink cartridge(s) with the i nk cartridges that were shipped with th e HP All-in-One.
