2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP Al l-in-One to print document s or photos from you r computer, print pho tos directly from a m emory card or storage device, scan document s or photos, ma ke copies, or print directly on the su rface of specially coated CDs and DVDs.

To install and print usin g the Microsoft stack 1. Make sure that you have i nstalled the product software on the computer. NOTE: The purpose of inst alling the software is to make sure the printer drive r is available for th e Bluetooth ® conne ction.

To change the devi ce name of the product 1. Press Setup . 2. Press the down arrow butt on until Bluetooth is hig hlighted, and then press OK . 3. 6 Load originals and load paper You can load many differen t types and sizes of paper in the HP All-in-On e, including letter or A4 paper, photo paper, tra nsparencies, an d envelo pes. In addi tion, the HP All-in-One enables you t o load and print directly on the surface of specially co ated CDs and DVDs.
3. Close the li d. Choose papers for printing and copying You can use differ ent types an d sizes of paper in the HP All-in-On e. Review the follo wing recommendati ons to get the best prin ting and copying q uality. Whenever you change paper types or si zes, remember to change those settings.

2. Slide the paper-wid th guide to its outermost position. 3. Insert the st ack of paper into the main in put tray with the short edge forward an d the print side down . Slide the stack of paper forwa rd until it stops. CAUTION: Make sure that the pro duct is idle and silent when you load paper into the main inp ut tray.
5. Lower the output tr ay. Pull the tray extender towards you, as far as it will go. Flip the paper catch at the end of the tray extender to open the exte nder the rest of the w ay. NOTE: When you use leg al-size paper, leave the tray exten der closed.
3. Insert the stack of photo pape r into the phot o tray with th e short edge fo rward and the print side dow n. Slide the stack of pho to paper forward un til it stops. If the phot o paper you are using has pe rforated tabs, load th e photo paper so t hat the tabs are closest to you.
To load postcard s, Hagaki, or index c ards in the photo tray 1. Raise the photo tray lid. 2. Slide the paper-width guide to it s outermost position. 3. Insert the stack of card s into the photo t ray with the shor t edge forward and t he print side down.
5. Lower the photo tra y lid. Load envelopes You can load one or more e nvelopes into the main inpu t tray of the HP All-in-One . Do not use shiny or embossed envelopes or envelopes that have clasps or windows. NOTE: For specific det ails on how to form at text for printing on envelopes, con sult the help files in your word processi ng software.
3. Slide the paper-width guide to it s outermost position. 4. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-right side of th e main input tr ay, with the envelope flaps on the left and facing up. Slide the stack of envelopes forward until it stops. TIP: To avoid paper ja ms, tuck the flap insi de each envelope.

4. Lower the CD/DVD tray . The CD/DVD tray is located just below th e control panel. Whe n in its lowered posit ion, the CD/DVD tra y sits on top of the output tray. 5. Push the CD/DV D holder into the product unti l the green lines on the CD/DVD holder line up w ith the green lines on the C D/DVD tray, and then pre ss OK .
To load a small-si ze (80 mm) CD/DVD on the CD/D VD tray 1. If the product is placed close to a wall, move it at least 7.5 cm (3 inches) away from the wall. 2. Carefully remove t he CD/DVD holde r from the storage area be low the main paper tray. 3. Securely snap the in kjet printable media ont o the CD/DVD holder with the p rintable side up.
5. Lower the CD/DVD tray . The CD/DVD tray is located just below th e control panel. Whe n in its lowered posit ion, the CD/DVD tra y sits on top of the output tray. 6. Push the CD/DV D holder into the product unti l the green lines on the CD/DVD holder line up to the green line s on the CD/DVD tra y.
Avoid paper jams To help avoid paper jams, follow th ese guidelines. • Remove printed pape rs from the output t ray frequently. • Prevent curled or wrinkl ed photo paper by storing all unused photo paper flat in a resealable bag. • Ensure that paper loaded in the input tray lays flat and the edges are not bent or torn.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-in-On e can be used with any soft ware application t hat allows pri nting. You can print a range of proje cts, such as borderl ess images, newsletters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and posters.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-in-O ne as the default printer to use from all soft ware applications. This means that the HP All-in-One is automat ically selected in the printer l ist when you select Print f rom the File menu in a software appli cation.

Printing in maximum dp i takes longer than printi ng with other setti ngs and requires a large amount of di sk space. To print in Ma ximum dpi mode 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the inp ut tray. 2. On the File menu in your software app lication, click Print .

• For bind ing on the si de like a bo ok or magazi ne, click to c lear the Flip Pages Up check box. This causes the odd and even page s of your document to print opposi te of each other left-to-right . This ensures that the top of the page is always at the to p of the sheet when you turn th e pages in your bound docume nt.
6. In the Pa per saving option s area, select Manual from the Two-sided pri nting drop- down list. 7. Select the binding e dge from the Booklet layo ut is list, as appropriate for your langua ge. • If your language read s left-to-right, cl ick Left edge binding .
Print multiple pag es on a si ngle she et You can print up to 16 pages on a single sheet of paper. To print multiple pages on a sin gle sheet 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the inp ut tray. 2. On the File menu in your software app lication, click Print .
A better way is to print the docum ent in reverse order so that the pag es are stacked correctly. TIP: Set this option as a default sett ing so you do not have to remember to set it every time you p rint a multiple -page docume nt. To print a multiple -page do cument i n revers e order 1.

In the Paper Typ e drop-down list, click Mo re , and then select HP Iro n-on Tra nsfer from the list.
To print a group of addr esses o n label s or env elope s 1. Print a test pa ge on plai n paper first. 2. Place the test pag e on top of the label sheet or envelope, an d hold both up to the light. Check the spa cing for each block of text . Make adjustments as needed.
7. In the Poster Printing drop-down list, click either 2x2 (4 shee ts) , 3x3 (9 sheets) , 4x4 (16 sheets) , or 5x 5 (25 sheets) . This selection tel ls the product to enlarge your do cument so that it fit s on 4, 9, 16, or 25 pages. If your originals are of m ultiple pages, each of thos e pages will be printed on 4, 9, 16 , or 25 pages.
3. Double-click the prod uct icon. TIP: You can also double-click the p rinter icon in the Windows taskbar. 4. Select the print job you want to cancel. 5. On the Document menu, click Cancel Prin ting or Canc el , or press the Dele te key on your keyboard.
8 Use the photo features The HP All-in-One is e quipped with memory card slots and a front USB p ort that enable you to print or edit photo s from a memory card or storage device (su ch as a keychain drive, portable hard dri ve, or a digital camera in storage mode) with out uploading your photos to a compute r first.

TIP: To achieve th e best print qualit y, HP recommends using H P papers that are specifically de signed for the type of project you are prin ting along with g enuine HP ink. HP papers and H P ink are specifical ly designed to work well together t o provide high-quali ty output.
Create special project s from your photos The HP All-in-O ne enables you to create spec ial projects fro m your photos, includ ing: • Photo albums • Panorama prints • Wallet-si ze photos • Passport-size photos To create spec ial projects 1.
To save photos 1. Insert a memory card into the appropriate slot on the prod uct or connect a storage device to the front USB port. 2. Press the right arrow butto n until Save is highlighted, a nd then press OK . 3. Follow the onscreen prompts on your comput er to save the photos to your computer.
NOTE: The HP All-in-O ne automatically adj usts the rotation so photos print pr operly on the page. When p rinting more than one, t he photos are oriente d to fit a maximum number of photos o n the page. To rotate a photo 1. Press the Menu button on the photo selection screen.

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the process o f converting text and pict ures into an electronic format for your computer. You can scan almost anythin g (photos, magazine articles and text docume nts) on the HP All-in -One.
NOTE: When scanning, t he HP Photosmart Software enables you to save an i mage in the f ollowing file form ats: BMP, DCX, F PX, GIF, JPG, PCD, PCX, and TIF. To scan to a computer 1. Load your original pri nt side down on the right fr ont corner of the glass.
To save a scan to the m emory card or storage de vice 1. Make sure your memory card is insert ed into the appropriat e slot on the product, o r a storage device is conne cted to the front USB port. 2. Load your original print side down on the righ t front corner of the glass.
Stop scanning To stop scanning ▲ Press Cancel on the co ntrol panel. Chapter 9 84 Use the scan features Scan.
10 Use the copy features The HP All-in-O ne enables you to pro duce high-quality colo r and black-and-whit e copies on a variety of paper types, includin g transparenci es.

Preview your copy job After changing setti ngs on the HP All-in-One for making a copy, you can preview an image of the expected outp ut on the display before starti ng the copy.

To change the copy qual ity from the contr ol panel 1. Press OK when Copy is highlighted on t he Home Screen. 2. Press the Menu button to sele ct Copy Settings . 3. Press the down arrow bu tton to highlight Quality , and then press OK . 4. Press the up arrow or down arrow butto n to select a copy quality, and then pre ss OK .
NOTE: The settings you specify here are on ly saved on the product. They do not adjust the sett ings in the soft ware. You can sa ve your most f requently u sed software settings by using th e HP Photosmart software.
3. Press the down arrow bu tton to highlight Size , and then press OK . 4. Press the up arrow or down arro w button to highlight the appropriate co py size, and then press OK . Crop an original After changing setting s on the HP All-in-One for making a copy, you can use the crop feature to specify a p articular area of the orig inal to copy.
To shift the margin for your copy from the control panel 1. Press OK when Copy is highligh ted on the Home Scre en. 2. Press the Menu bu tton to select Copy Settings . 3. Change copy settings on th e pr oduct to accurately reflect the copy you want to make.
11 Use the reprint features The HP All-in-One enables yo u to make reprin ts of photograp hic originals placed on the glass. This section contai ns the following topi cs: • Make reprints of your pho.
To fix a faded original photo whe n making a reprint 1. Press the Menu button on t he reprint selection screen. 2. In the Edit Photo me nu, press the up arrow or down arrow button to highlight Fi x Faded Origina l , and then press OK . 3. Press the up arrow or down arrow button to high light Yes , and the n press OK .
To crop a p hoto 1. Press the Menu button on t he reprint selection screen. 2. In the Edit Photo menu, pr ess the up arrow or down arrow button to highlight Crop , and then press OK . 3. Press the Zoom in button or the Zoom out button to zoom closer to or farther aw ay from the subject o f the photo.
Apply speci al color effects t o your p hotos You can apply special color e ffects to a photo so that it p rints with a sepia, ha nd-tinted, or black-and- white finish. To change th e color effects 1. Press the Menu button on t he reprint selection screen.
12 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All-in -One requi res little main tenance. So metimes you migh t want to clean the glass and lid backing to re move surface dust and ensur e that your copies and sca ns remain clear. You wil l also need to replace, align, or clean your prin t cartridges from time to time.
Handle the print cartridges Before you replace or clean a print cartridge, you should know the part names a nd how to handle the print cartridges. 1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (m ust be removed before installin g) 3 Ink nozzles under tape Hold the print cartri dges by their black plastic sides, wit h the label on top.
NOTE: Ink from the cartri dges is used in the printing process in a nu mber of different ways, includin g in the initial ization proc ess, which prepar es the produc t and cartridg es for printing, and in printhead servicing , which keeps print nozzles clear and ink flowing smoothly.
NOTE: At this ti me, some po rtions of th e HP Web site are ava ilable in English only. Choose the righ t cartridge combina tion Choose the best combinat ion of cartridges for your prin t job: • Everyday printing: Us e a black cartridge along wi th a tri-color cartri dge.
If you are repla cing the bla ck or photo print cartri dge, remove the prin t cartridge from the slot on the righ t. 1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color pr int cartridge 2 Print cartridge slot fo.
6. Hold the prin t cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new print cartridge into the empty cartridg e slot. Make sure you push the print cartridge in firmly until it snaps into place. If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.

To insert a print cartr idge into the print cartri dge protector ▲ Place the print cartridge into the print cart ridge protector at a slight angle and snap it securely into place.
Ink-backup mode Use the ink-backup mode to ope rate the HP All-in-One with o nly one print cartridge. The ink-backup mode is initia ted when a print cartridge is removed from the p rint cartridge carriage. During ink-backu p mode, the product can only print jobs from the compu ter.

To align the print cartri dges from the HP Photosmart Softwa re 1. Load letter o r A4 unused plain whi te paper into the in put tray. NOTE: If you have colored pap er loaded in the input tray whe n you align the print cartridges, the ali gnment will fail .
5. The product pri nts a test page, aligns t he printhead, and calibrates the prin ter. Recycle or discard the page. NOTE: If you have colored p aper loaded in the input tray when you align t he printer, th e alignment wi ll fail. Load unused pl ain white pa per into the input tray, and then try the al ignment again.
Make sure you have the f ollowing materi als available: • Dry foam rubber swabs, lint-free cloth, or any soft material that will not co me apart or leave fibe rs.
8. Clean only the copp er-colored contacts. Al low the print cartridg es to dry for approximate ly ten minutes. 1 Copper-colored conta cts 2 Ink nozzles (do not clean) 9. Hold the print cartridge with the HP l ogo on top, and insert t he print cartridge ba ck into the slot.
10. Repeat if necessary for the other pri nt cartridge. 11. Gently close the print cartridge door and plug the power cord into the back of the product.
To clean the a rea around the ink nozzles 1. Make sure the product is turned on. To clear a pape r jam from the rear door 1. Press in the tab on the left side of the rear door to release the door. Remove t he door by pulli ng it away from the product.
• Always hold phot o paper by the edges. Fingerpri nts on photo paper can reduce print quality. • Do not use paper that i s heavily textured. It can cause graphics o r text to print improperly.
HP recommends th at you use genuine HP print cart ridges. Genuine HP pr int cartridges are desi gned and tested with HP pr inters to help you easi ly produce great results, ti me afte r time. NOTE: HP cannot guaran tee the qualit y or reliabilit y of non-HP suppl ies.

If you want to ma ke a borderless copy of a very small original, sc an the or iginal i nto the computer, resize the image, and the n print a borderless copy of the enlarged image. Cause: You were trying t o make a borderless copy of a very small ori ginal.
Solution 1: Push the CD/DVD holder into the CD/DVD tr ay Solution: Push the CD/DVD holder forward into the CD/DVD tray until the lines on the holder line up to the white lines on the tray. The end of t he holder marked with arrows goes into th e CD/DVD tray first.
Solution 4: Load the next disc on the CD/DVD holder Solution: Remove the CD/DVD holder fro m the CD/DVD tray. Remove the printed CD/DVD from t he holder. Load the next di sc onto the CD/D VD holder with the printable side up and reinsert the holder int o the CD/DVD tr ay until the lines on t he holder line up to th e white lines on the tray.
The image on my prin ted disc is cropped and there i s ink on the CD/DVD holder Solution: If you are lo ading a regular-size (120 mm) CD /DVD onto the CD /DVD holder to be printed, do not flip the blue ring over the di sc. The blue ring should only be used if you are print ing on a small-size (80 mm) C D/DVD.
The design is not center ed on my disc Solution: Change the software set tings to center and size your design f or the disc you are using. Refer to the documentation or t he online help of the so ftware you are using for additio nal information . Cause: Your design settin gs were not correct.
Cause: You inserted the CD/D VD holder back into the sto rage area. Errors If the product has an error, t he lights on the product might fla sh, or an error message might appear on your co mputer screen.

3. Select HP Photosmart A ll-In-One Dr iver Software , and then click Change/ Remove . Follow the on screen instructions. 4. Disconnect the product from your computer. 5. Restart your comput er. NOTE: It is important t hat you disconnect the product before restarti ng your computer.
Cause: Communication proble ms between the product and the USB control ler caused this error to occur. This might be caused by an incomplete installation, a USB cable long er than 3 meters (9.8 feet) in length, or a defective USB cable. If this did not so lve the issue, try th e next solution .
Solution 5: Chec k the power supply Solution: Check the pow er supply. To check the power supply 1. Make sure the power cord is f irmly connected to both the product and the power adapter. Plug th e power cord into a powe r outlet, surge prote ctor, or power strip.

Solution 2: Clear the prin t queue Solution: Restart your computer to clea r the print queue. To clear the p rint queue 1. Restar t your co mputer. 2. After the computer h as restarted, check the print que ue.
After reconnecting the U SB cable, the product should start p rinting the jobs in queue. NOTE: If you are connecting the pro duct through a USB hub, make su re the hub is turned on. If the hub is on, try connecting directl y to your computer. 5. If the product does not start printi ng automatically, start another print job.
7. If the wron g driver is selected, select t he correct driver f rom the Driver drop-down menu. 8. Click OK to save your changes. Cause: The product was not be set as the default printer, or the wrong driver mig ht have been configu red. If this did not so lve the issue, try th e next solution .
4. If there are still documents in the queue, resta rt the computer and try printing again after the computer has restarted. 5. Check the print queue again to make sure i t is clear, and then try to prin t again. If printing is successfu l from Notepad but not the sof tware application, cont act the manufacturer of that applicat ion for support. Cause: The software applica tion was failing or could not communicate with the print driver correctly.
Solution 2: Check the po wer cord and USB cabl e Solution: Make sure that the power cord and USB cabl e are properly attached and plugged in. Also, make sure that the product is turned on.
