2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP All-in-One to qui ckly and easily accomplish ta sks such as making a copy, scanning documents, or pri nting photos from a m emory card. You can access many HP All-in-One functi ons directly from the control pane l, without turnin g on your computer.

6 Load originals and load paper You can load many differen t types and sizes of paper in the HP All-i n-One, including l etter or A4 paper, p hoto paper, tra nsparencies, an d envelopes.
3. Close the li d. To load a thick p ublication on the glass 1. Lift the lid to the open position, grasp the sides of the lid, and then p ush the lid away from the product unti l it comes off. 2. Load the thick publi cation print side down on the right front corner o f the glass.

When you finish copying or scanning , replace the lid by i nserting the tabs on the lid back into the appropriate sl ots of the product . HP Bright Whit e Inkjet Paper HP Bright White In kjet Paper delivers hi gh-c ontrast colors and sharp text . It is opaque enough for two-si ded color usage wit h no show-through, which makes it ideal for newsletters, reports, and flyers.
NOTE: At this ti me, some portion s of the HP Web site are availa ble in Englis h only. Papers to avoid Using paper that is t oo thin or too thick, paper th at has a slick texture, or paper t hat stretches easily can cau se paper jams.
To load full-size p aper 1. Slide the paper-width guide to it s outermost positi on. NOTE: If you are using letter or A4 paper or smaller, make sure the t ray extender is open all the way. Whe n you use legal-siz e paper, leave t he tray ex tender closed.
To load small-size photo pa per in the input tray 1. Slide the paper-wid th guide to its ou termost position. 2. Insert the stack of photo paper into the far-ri ght side of the input tray with the short edge forward an d the print side down. Slide the stack of p hoto paper f orward until it stops.
Load index cards You can load index cards into the in put tray of the HP All-i n-One to print notes, recipe s, and other t ext. To load index cards i n the input tray 1. Remove all paper from the input tray. 2. Slide the paper-width guide to it s outermost positi on.
4. Slide the paper-wid th guide inward against the stack of cards until it stops. Do not overload the input tra y; make sure the stack of cards fi ts within the input tray and is no higher th an the top of the p aper-width gui de.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-in-On e can be used with any so ftware applicat ion that a llows printing . You can print a range of proje cts, such as bord erless images, newsl etters, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and posters.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-in-O ne as the default printe r to use from all software appl ications. This means that the HP All-in-One is auto matically selected in the pri nter list when you select Print f rom the File menu in a software application.

To view the print resolution 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in t he input t ray. 2. On the File menu in your soft ware application , click Print . 3. Make sure the product is the selected printer. 4. Click the button that opens the Propert ies dialog box.

To preview your print job 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in t he input t ray. 2. On the File menu in your soft ware application , click Print . 3. Make sure the product is the selected printer. 4. Click the button that opens the Propert ies dialog box.

To print a borderless image 1. Remove all paper from the input tray. 2. Place the phot o paper print side down on the right side of the inp ut tray. 3. On the File menu in your software application, click Print . 4. Make sure the product is the selected printer.
To print a photo on photo pap er 1. Remove all pa per from the inpu t tray, and the n load the phot o paper print sid e down. 2. On the File menu in your soft ware application , click Print . 3. Make sure the product is the selected printer. 4. Click the button that opens the Propert ies dialog box.
11. (Optional) If you want to print th e photo in black a nd white, click the Color tab and select the Print in grayscale check box. From the drop-d own list, select one of the following o ptions: • High Quality: uses all the available colors to print your photo in grayscale.
Print on both side s of the page You can print two-sided pages with the HP All -in-One manual ly. When printing t wo-sided pages, make sure to use pa per that is thick enough so tha t images do not show throu gh to the othe r side. To print on both sid es of the pag e 1.
8. Click OK , and then click Print or OK in the Print dialog box. The product begins pri nting. Wait unti l all the odd-numb ered pages are printed bef ore removing any of the p rinted pages from the output tray. A dialog box displa ys instructions on the screen wh en it is time to p rocess the second side of your job.
9. Wait until th e product has st opped printing for several seconds befo re removing any of the printed pa ges from the outp ut tray. If you remove t he pages while th e document is still p rinting, the p ages might get out of order.
To print multiple pages on a sin gle sheet 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the input tray. 2. On the File menu in your software application, click Print . 3. Make sure the product is the selected printer. 4. Click the button t hat opens the Pro perties dialog box.

Print on transparencies For the best result s, HP recommends you use HP transpare ncy products with the HP All- in-One. To print on tra nsparencies 1. Load the transparency int o the input tra y. 2. On the File menu in your software application, click Print .
Print a poster You can create a post er by printing a docume nt on multip le pages. The HP All-in-One prints dotte d lines on some pages t o indicate where to trim th e pages before taping them together. To print a poster 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in t he input t ray.
To print a W eb page 1. Make sure you have pa per loaded in the main input tray. 2. On the File menu in your Web browser, cl ick Print . The Print dialog box appea rs. 3. Make sure the product is the selected printer. 4. If your Web browser supports it, select the it ems on the Web page t hat you want to include in th e printout.

8 Use the photo features The HP All-in-On e is equipped wit h memory card slots wh ich enable you t o insert a memory card and beg in printing pho tos from your digital camera with out uploading your photos to a compute r first.
To insert a me mory card 1. Make sure the product is on. 2. Insert the mem ory card into the appropriat e slot. The memory card has a Photo light (below the camera icon) that indicates the statu s of the memory card . When it is soli d green, your photo s are ready to be vi ewed.
3. Press the buttons next to the u p arrow or down arrow icons on the d isplay to scroll through the phot os on your memory card until the photo you want to print appears.
6. Press the button next to Prints /Total to increase the number of cop ies you want to print of th e current image. The first number on the display indicat es how many copie s of the current image will be printed. The second number indicate s how many total prin ts are in the print q ueue.
NOTE: Not all digital cameras enable you to t ag your photos for printing . See the documentation t hat came with your digita l camera to see if your cam era supports DPOF file format 1.1. To print camera -selected photos usi ng the DPOF standard 1. Insert your memory card int o the appropriate slot o n the product.
Share photos with fr iends and relatives You can use the HP Photo smart Software i nstalled on your computer t o transfer photos from a memory card to your computer’s hard d rive for advanced photo editi ng, sharing photos online, and printing fro m your comput er.
9 Use the copy features The HP All-in-One allows you to produce hi gh-quality color and black-and-whit e copies on plain or photo pa per. You can enlarg e or reduce the size of an or iginal to fit a specific paper size, adjust th e copy quality, a nd make high-q uality copies of photos, in cluding borderless copies.
Change the copy settings for the current job You can customi ze the copy set tings of th e HP All-in -One to ha ndle nearly any copy task. This section contains the follow ing topics: • Make multipl.
4. Press the button next to Copies to increase the n umber of copies. When you reach the maximum, the settin g returns to 1 copy. TIP: Use the software th at you installed with the product to set a hig her number of copies.

To make a bo rderless 13 x 18 cm (5 x 7 inch) copy of a photo from the control pan el 1. Load photo pa per in the input tray. NOTE: The product auto matically detect s the type of paper you are us ing. If you do not use photo paper, your copy w ill include a white border around on e or more edges.
Resize an original to fi t on to letter or A4 paper You can use the Resize to Fit feature to copy an or iginal to fit within the printabl e margins of a page witho ut the risk of cropp ing some part of your original . This is useful f or reducing or enlarging an original.
2. Load your original print side down on the right front corner of the gla ss. 3. Press Settings . The Settings menu appears. 4. Press the button next to Size to select Resize to Fit . 5. Press OK . 6. Press the button next to Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color .

10 Use the scan features Scanning is the process o f converting text an d pictures into an electronic f ormat for your computer. You can scan a lmost anything (photos, maga zine articles, and text documents) on the HP All-in -One.
3. When prompted, load your original phot o print side down on the ri ght front corn er of the glass. 4. Press OK . A preview image of the scan appears on t he display. 5. Do one of t he followi ng: To reprint your original photo using the d efault print settin gs ▲ Press the button next to Print .
NOTE: Closing the HP Di gital Imaging Monitor icon in the Windows system tray can cause the HP All -in-One to lose som e of its scan functiona lity. If this happen s, you can restore full functionality by restart ing your computer or b y starting the HP Photosmart Software.
NOTE: If you are using t he HP Photosmart Soft ware, the Optical C haracter Recognition (OC R) software might not be installed on your comp uter. To install the OCR software, you must re-insert the software disk and select OCR under the Custom installation opti ons.
11 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All-in -One requires li ttle maintenance. So metimes you might wan t to clean the glass and lid backing to re move surface dust and ensu re that your copie s and scans remain clear. You wil l also need to replace, a lign, or clean yo ur print cartri dges from time to time.
To clean the g lass 1. Turn off the pro duct, unplug the p ower cord, and raise the lid. 2. Clean the gla ss with a soft cloth o r sponge slightly moist ened with a nonabrasive glass cleaner. CAUTION: Do not use abrasives, acet one, benzene, or carbon tetrachl oride on the glass, si nce they can damage it.
Print a self-test report If you are experien cing problems with pri nting , print a self-test report befo re you replace the print cartridge s. This report provides useful informatio n on several aspect s of your product, includi ng your print cartridges.

TIP: You can also p rint a self -test report to see i f your print cartri dges might need to be replaced . NOTE: If the print cartridg es were used before being insta lled in the product, or have been refilled, the estimated ink levels on the Estimated Ink levels tab may be inaccurate or unavailable.
To replace the print cartridges 1. Make sure the product is turned on. CAUTION: If the prod uct is turned off when you open the print cart ridge door to access the print cart ridges, it will not releas e the cartridges f or changing. You might damage t he product if the prin t cartridges are not docke d safely when you try to remove them.
If you are repla cing the black or photo pri nt cartridge, remove the prin t cartridge from the slot on the righ t. 1 Print cartridge slot for the tri-color pr int cartridge 2 Print cartridge slot for.
6. Hold the prin t cartridge with the HP logo on top, and insert the new prin t cartridge in to the empty cartridg e slot. Make sure you push the print cartridge in firm ly until it snaps into place. If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, sl ide it into the left slot.

Remove the black print cartridge and i nsert the photo print cartrid ge in its place.
To insert a print cartr idge into the print ca rtridge protector ▲ Place the print cartridge into the print cart ridge protector at a slig ht angle and snap it securely into place.
Ink-backup mode Use the ink-backup mode to ope rate the HP All-in-One wit h only one print cartrid ge. The ink-backup mode is initia ted when a print cartri dge is removed from the print cartridg e carriage. During ink-backu p mode, the product can on ly print jobs from the computer.
• Clean the p rint cartridge co ntacts • Clean the area arou nd the ink nozzles Align the print cartridges The product alig ns the cartridges every time a new p rint cartridge is insta lled. You can also align the pri nt cartridges at any time fro m the software you installed w ith the prod uct to help resolve pri nt quality issues.
6. When prompte d, ensure plain whit e letter or A4 paper is l oaded in the inp ut tray, then press the butt on next to OK . NOTE: If you have colored pap er loaded in the input tray w hen you align the p rint cartridges, the ali gnment will fa il. Load unused plai n white pape r into the input tray, and then t ry the alignment again.
Clean the print cartridge contacts CAUTION: Do not clean the print cartridge contac ts unless you are having a pr oblem with print qualit y and other measures have not bee n successful. For more i nformation, see “ Print qu ality troublesho oting” on page 99 .
4. Lightly press do wn on the print cartridge to re lease it, and th en pull it tow ards you out of the sl ot. NOTE: Do not remove both print cart ridges at the same time . Remove and clean each print cartridge one at a time. Do not leave a print cartridge outside t he product for more than 30 minutes.
10. Repeat if necessary for t he other print cart ridge. 11. Gently cl ose the print cartri dge door and pl ug the power cord in to the back of the product.
To clean the area around the ink nozzles 1. Make sure the product is turned on. CAUTION: If the product is tu rned off when you open the pri nt cartridge door t o access the print cartri dges, it will not relea se the cartridges fo r changing. You might damage the pro duct if the print cart ridges are not docked safe ly when you try to remove them.

• If you are using a power st rip, make sure the pow er strip is turned on. Or, try plugging the p roduct directly i nto a power ou tlet. • Test the power out let to make sure it is working. Plug in an appliance that you know works, and see if the app liance has pow er.
Solution 5: Contact HP supp ort for service Solution: If you have complete d all of the steps provided in the previous solutions and are still having a proble m, contact HP suppor t for service. Go to: www.hp.com/support . If prompted, choose yo ur country/region, and then click Contact HP for technical support.
After setting up the product, it d oes not print Solution: • Look at the On butt on located on the product. If it is not li t, the product is t urned off. Make sure t he power cord i s firmly connect ed to the prod uct and plugge d into a power out let.
• Check other printers or scanners. You mig ht need to disconn ect older prod ucts from your computer. • Try connecting the USB ca ble to another USB port on your computer. After you check the connections, try rest arting your computer. Turn o ff the product, and then turn it on again.
d . Reconnect the power co rd to the back of the product . e . Press the On button to turn on th e product. 2. Uninstall the soft ware completely. NOTE: It is important t hat you follow t he uninstall proced ure carefully t o ensure you have removed t he software completel y from the computer, b efore reinstalli ng it.

Depending on your operating syst em, do one of the following: • In Windows Vista: In Start Search , type MSCONFIG , and then press Enter . When the User Account Co ntrol dialog box appe ars, click Conti nue .
5. Install the softwa re. To install the so ftware a . Insert software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The software installation will start automatically. NOTE: If the insta llation does not ru n automatically, from the Win dows Start menu, click Start Search (or Run ).
4. Click Retry to retry the connection. 5. Continue wit h the installati on and restart the computer wh en prompted. Cause: The USB connection betwe en the product and the computer fai led.
6. Insert the product C D-ROM into your computer ’s CD-ROM drive and then start the Setup program. NOTE: If the Setup program does not appea r, locate the setup. exe file on the CD-ROM driv e and double-click i t. NOTE: When the computer is turned on, a software group call ed the Terminate and Stay Resident (TSR) programs auto matically loads.

purchase. HP pa pers are design ed for the best qual ity results. In additio n, follow these tips: • Do not use paper that is too thin, that has a slick texture, or that stretches easily. It can feed incorrectly throug h the paper pat h, causing paper jams.
Try the following solu tions if the colors appea r wrong, inaccurate, o r bleed into each other. • Solution 1: Make su re you are using genuine HP print cartridg es • Solution 2: Make sure pa per .
Store photo medi a in its origina l packaging insi de a resealable pl astic bag on a flat surface in a cool, dry place. When yo u are ready to print, remove only the paper you plan to use i mmediately. Wh en you have finishe d printing, return any un used photo paper to the p lastic bag.
NOTE: On some computer screens, colors might appear differen tly than they do when printed on pape r. In this case, the re is nothing wron g with the prod uct, print settings, or p rint cartridges.
Solution 1: Check the print settings Solution: Check the print settings. • Check t he paper type setting to ma ke sure it matches the t ype of pap er loaded in the input t ray. • Check the quality setting. Use a h igher quali ty setting to increase th e amount of ink used for pri nting.
NOTE: HP cannot guaran tee the qual ity or reliabil ity of non -HP supplies. Printer service or repairs required as a resul t of using a non-HP supply will no t be covered under warranty. If you believe you purchased genuin e HP print cartridge s, go to: www.
Cause: The print cartridge was damaged. The printout ha s a horizontal band of distortion near the bottom o f a borderless print Try the follow ing solutions if your borderless pr in t has a blurry band or line on the bott om of it.
Solution 3: Rotate the image Solution: If th e problem persists, use the so ftware you instal led with the p roduct or another softwa re application to rotate your image 180 degrees so tha t the light b lue, gray, or brown hues in your im age do not print at th e bottom of the pa ge.
Solution 3: If the print cartridg e was dropped, wait fo r it to recover Solution: Allow 30 minu tes for the pr int cartridge to recover. Cause: A tri-color o r photo print ca rtridge was j arred or handled roughly during installatio n. If this di d not solve th e issue, try the next solutio n.
Check to see if your pri nt cartridge is still unde r warranty and end of wa rranty date has not been reached. • If the end of warranty date has been reached, p urchase a new print ca rtridge. • If the end of wa rranty date has not bee n reached, contact HP support.

Solution 2: Check th e envelope type Solution: Do not use shiny o r embossed envelope s or envelopes tha t have clasps or windows. Cause: The wr ong type of envelope w as loaded.
