2. 4 S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER Installing the Toner Cartridge 1 Grasp the front cover and pull it toward you to open. N OTE : Becaus e the printer is very light, it may move when you use it ; for exam ple , when ope nin g/c los ing the tray or in stal lin g/ removing the toner cartridge.

S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 2. 7 2 Loading Pa per Y ou can load approx imately 250 sheets of pa per in the tra y . 1 Pull the tray out of the printer . 2 Prepar e a stack of pa per for lo ading by flex ing or fann ing the paper back and forth. Straighten the edges on a level surface.

S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 2. 9 2 Changing the Paper Size in the Pape r Tray T o load longer sizes of paper , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray . 1 Pressing and unlatc hing the guide lock, slide the paper length guide ou t completely to extend the paper tray to its full length.

S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 2. 11 2 Connecting a Printer Cable For Local Printing T o print from your computer in a local environment, you need to connect your printer to the computer with either a parallel interface cable or a Universal Seri al Bus (USB) cable.

S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER 2. 13 2 For Network Printing Y ou can attach your BP20N printer to a network using an Ethernet cable (UTP cable with RJ.45 connector). 1 Make sure that both the printer a nd the computer are turned off . 2 Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet network port on the Printer .
2. 14 S ETTING U P Y OUR P RINTER Turning the Printer On 1 Plug the power cord into the p ower receptac le on the back of th e pri nter . 2 Plug the other end into a properly grounded AC outlet and turn on the printer usin g the power switc h.

If you are pri nting from Window s: Y ou can install t he following printer software using th e CD-ROM.

After you have assigned and verifie d the TCP/IP settings, you are ready to install the software on each computer on the network.

3 This chapter will help you understand types of paper you can use with your printer and how to properly load paper in the different paper trays for the best pri nt quality .
U SING P RIN T M ATERIALS 3. 2 Choosing Paper and Other Materials Y ou can pr int on a variety of print materials, su ch as p lain paper , envelopes, labels, transparencies, and so on. See “Paper Specifications” on page C.3. T o get the best possible pr int quality , use only high-quality copier-grade paper .

U SING P RIN T M ATERIALS 3. 4 Guidelines f or Pape r an d Specia l Materials When selecting or loading paper , envelo pes, or other special materials, keep these guidelines in mind: • Attempting to print on damp, curled, wrinkl ed, or torn paper can cause pap er jams and poor print quality .
U SING P RINT M ATERIALS 3. 5 3 Selecting the Output Location The printer has tw o output locations; the rear output tray and the top output tray . T o use the top output tray , be sure th at the rear output tray is closed. T o use the rear output tray , open it.
U SING P RIN T M ATERIALS 3. 6 Printing to the Rear Ou tput Tray (Fa ce up ) The pr inter al ways prints to t he re ar output tray if it is ope n. Paper comes out of the printer face-up, and each time a sheet of paper comes out, it falls down from the printer .
U SING P RINT M ATERIALS 3. 7 3 2 If you do not want to use the rear output tra y , close the tray . The pages w ill stack on the top outp ut tray . Loading Pa per Proper pape r loading helps prevent pap er jams and ensure trouble-free printing. Do not remove the paper tray while a job is printing.
U SING P RIN T M ATERIALS 3. 8 Usin g Tray 1 or the Option al T ray2 T ray1 and the op tional T r ay2 can hold up to 250 sheets of paper . See “Sizes and Capa cities” on page 3.3 for acceptable p aper size and capaciti es of each tray . Load a stack of pap er into the tray and print.

P RINTING T ASKS 4.2 Printing a D ocument in Windows The following procedure describes th e general steps required for printing from various Windows ap plications. The exact st eps for printing a doc ument may vary depending on the ap plication pro gr am you are usi ng.
P RINTING T ASKS 4.3 4 Cancelling a Pr int Job There are two ways to cancel a print job. To stop a pri nt job fro m the control pan el: Press the Cancel button on the control panel. The printer will finish printing the pag e that is moving through the printer an d delete the rest of the print job.
P RINTING T ASKS 4.4 Printer Settings Y ou c a n u s e the BP20 S e r i es PCL6 p r int e r prop e r t i es window , which al lows you t o access all of th e printer options you need when using your machine. When the printer properties are displayed, you can review an d change w hatever settings a re needed for your print job.
P RINTING T ASKS 4.5 4 Layout tab The Layout tab provides options to adj ust how the document appears on the pr inted page. T he Layout Op tions includes Multiple Pages per Sid e and Poster . See page 4.2 for more information on acce ssing printer proper ties.

P RINTING T ASKS 4.15 4 Printing Multiple Pages on One Sheet of Paper Y ou can sel ect the number of pa ges to prin t on a single sheet of paper . T o print more tha n one page per sheet , the pages are reduced in size and ar ranged in the order you specify .
