NOTE: Ports using this configuration will support XON/X OFF handshaking only .
COMPUTER PORTS NOTE: Computer ports using this configuration will support hardw are handshaking only .
PRINTER PORTS NOTE: Printer ports using this configuration will support hardw are handshaking only . You must ensure hardw are handshaking is supported by the equipment that w ill connect to these ports.
NOTE: Ports using this configuration will support XON/X OFF handshaking only .
If you are connecting a devi ce other than another Bay T ech product, you must refer to the operator 's manual f or your equipment to determine w hich pins are defined as TX+ , TX- , RX +, and RX -.
W hen connecting an EIA-422 dev ice to a computer port on the M24SII-V07 I/O module using 4-w ire Operation and unidir ectional Printer Shar ing Mode, the cabl e required to connect the two dev ices must have RX + wir ed to TX+ , and RX- wired to TX -, HSO+ wi red to HSI+, and HSO- wi red to HSI-.
PRINTER PORTS NOTE: Printer ports using this configuration will support hardw are handshaking only . You must ensure hardw are handshaking is supported by the equipment that w ill connect to these ports.
NOTE: If your EIA-422 dev ice has only one output hardw are handshake line (i .e., no HSO+ and HSO- ), connect this si ngle handshake line to HSI- on the M24SII-V07 module ( Pin 5).
The Port Logi cal Name is simply an aid to identifying which dev ice is connected to whic h port. It is used in the config uration menus and the I.
' "# ( You may conf igure the number of printer por ts on the M24SII-V02 parallel module to be 0 to 4.
If the computer is communicating wi th 7 bit w ord siz e wi th parity enabled, the 8th or pari ty bit i s masked f rom the Port Select Code before it is ex amined, allow ing you to send the Port Select Code w ith odd or ev en parity . Factory default is $SELECT.
The Model 24SII DES will translate for serial devices using different configurati ons.
& The Model 24SII DES has four Form Feed M odes allow ing y ou to determine w hen f orm feed occurs at the printers y ou are selecting: at the beginning of printing, at the end of pri nting, or both. Thi s feature is useful when sendi ng DOS files to a l aser printer .
The Model 24SII Data Ex change System allow s peripheral (pri nter, plotter) shar ing, speci fic peripheral selection or per ipheral contenti on, and buffe ring of print data.
In multiple pri n ter applications, the Model 24SII D ES giv es you the capability of sending print jobs to the first available printer (contention mode).
The Model 24SII DES pow ers-up from the factory in contention mode. .
The port select sequence may be sent as a separate ASCII file preceding the pr int job, via DOS batch files, as part of a pri nter initialization strin g, or by using the u tility software.
In Port Select Mode B (printer selecti on at beginni ng of printing ), a print job i s ended only when no char acters are receiv ed by the Model 24SII DES from the computer for the specified Input Inactiv ity Ti meout period only . CA UTION: The Input Inactivity Timeout should not be set to 0 (zer o) seconds (disabled) in Port Select M ode B.
If a computer wishes to cl ear the buffer, the computer sends the Port Select Code follow ed by CLR and a terminating char acter (Enter/Retur n or Line Feed) to the M odel 24SII DES. This command will only affect print jobs originated by that particular computer.
The Model 24SII Data Ex change System allow s pairs of computers (or computers and other devic es such as modems, scales, data collection eq uipment, etc.
Do not send both Enter/Retur n and Line Feed as the terminating character. The Model 24SII DES looks for either Enter /Return or Line Feed as the terminating char acter, but not both.
NOTE: Using R AMEXEC to select another computer por t is not suggested. Thi s is because RAM EXEC does not pr ovide full dupl ex communication so y ou cannot see the On Line or Busy message if you attempt to use RA MEXEC to determine whether or not you g ot connection to the other computer por t.
For exampl e, suppose you w ant to communicate with a 2400 baud modem connected to Port 2 of Module 2 and y our PC is connected to a computer port set at the Model 24SII's factory default serial configuration ( 9600 baud, 8 data bit, 1 stop bit, no pari ty, and XON/X OFF disabled).
BETWEEN COMPUTER A ND PERIPHERAL THROUGH MODEL 24SII W hen a .
BETWEEN COMPUTER A ND COMPUTER THROUGH MODEL 24SII W hen Computer A tr ansmits data to Computer B thr ough the Model 24SII DES, the data is recei ved from Computer A and stored in a 512-character buffer whi ch in turn r etransmits it to C omputer B.
BETWEEN COMPUTER A ND PERIPHERAL THROUGH MODEL 24SII W hen a computer transmi ts data to a peripheral device throug h a computer port on the Model 24SII DES, the data is r eceived and stored in the spooling buf fer (standard 1MB; optional up to 16MB) whic h in turn retr ansmits it to a peri pheral dev ice through a printer port.
W hen the buffer of the Model 24SII DES can receive mor e data, the Model 24SII DES will send an X ON to Computer A. NOTE: For computers sending binary data and using XON/XO FF handshaking, the input flow control (Recv) should be enabled and the output flow control (Xmit) should be disabled.
This command should be enter ed in all capi tals with only one space between ECH O and the $. Please refer to you DOS manual for instructions on creating DOS batch files. Progr ams such as W ord Perfect and W ordStar ty pically send a printer initiali zati on string before any data.
& Configurati on changes for the entire M odel 24SII DES are made through the master configuration por t whic h is Port 1 of Module 1. Por t 1 of Module 1 must alw ays be a ser ial port to al low config uration to occur.
