Enclos ure Spec ificati ons The IS4800 laser scan engine series was specifically designed for integration into custom housings for OE M applications. Th e scan e ngine’s performance will be adversely affected or permanently damaged when mount ed in an unsuitable enclosure .
Flex Cable s Note: To ensure optimum engine stability, use the flex cables shipped with the scan engine. The host flex cable is us ed to carry pow er and data signals between the engine and the host system. The flex cable should allow for a minimal voltage drop an d maintain a good ground connection between th e host and the engine.
Exit L aser Beam Clearance • Keep the scan engine’s beam sw eep free from o bstructions. For detailed information on the exi t beam angle and location, please refer to Exit Bea m Specifications on page 9 . • A dark matte - finish on the internal w alls of the housing can be utili zed to avoid i nternal beam reflections.
Output W indow Coatings • Anti - Reflec tion An anti - reflective coating can be applied to the inside and/or outside o f the window to reduce the possibility of internal beam reflections interfering with the scan p erformance of the en gine.

T imi ng Diagram s Startu p Condi tion Ti ming D iagr am Th e t im ing diagram below illustrates the correct pow er up procedure for the IS4813 and IS4815 engines. Scan Enable and Laser Enabl e are host driven signals. T he S can Enable and Laser Enable signals should be k ept LOW (ON) at pow er up.
Scan Sens e Ti ming Di agra m Th e Scan Sense signal is a 50% duty cy cle square wav e with the transitions from HIGH to LO W indicating a change in the scan directi on of the scanni ng beam (see Figure 14). Valid scan da ta occurs betw een the HIGH to LOW transitions.
Descripti o ns of IS 4823 an d IS 4825 O p erating M od es Activation Modes The following act ivation modes initiate the engine ’s laser and motor drive circuitry for bar code scanning. Activa te S ca nning with the External Trigger (Default). An external I/O pin is used to enable the scannin g cycle.
Trans mi t “ NO READ” M essage on Laser Timeout If the scanning cycle terminates w ithout scanning a bar code durin g the cycle , a “NO READ” m essag e is transmitted with the termination of the scannin g cycle.
Serial Configuration Mode Th e I S 4 823/IS4825 can be c onfigured by scanning configuration bar codes † Figure 16 or by serial commands sent from the host device . With serial configuration, e ach command sent to the engine i s the ASCII representation of each numeral in the config ur ation bar code (s ee ) .
