SETTING THE CLOCK -AUTOMA TIC MODE Note: An antenna or cable m ust be connected to the VCR bef ore y ou begin this operation. Tips You'll need to set the clock when f irst hooking up your VCR, and any tim e the power goes out for m ore than 1 hour.
If the VCR is alr eady turned off , press the POW ER button to turn the power on, then press it again to tur n the power off. T he time will appear in the VCR dis play to show that the current tim e has been set. T he automatic clock set procedure m ight take about 5 m inutes.
5 Press the (2) button. This screen appears to s how that the clock is being s et. • It may take about f ive minutes. • Since the VCR is sear ching for a broadc ast station that transm its a tim e signal, the channel indication on the cable box changes automatically.
3 Press the (3) b utton to select your local time zone. Each tim e (3) is pres sed, the option for "SET TIME ZO NE" switches from <AUTO > to <ATLANTIC>, <EASTERN>, <CENT RAL>, <MOUNTAIN>, <PACIF IC>, <ALASKA>, <HAW AII> and back to <AUTO>.

To add or erase channels The auto c hannel set procedure m ay m emorize channels that are blank , have snowy pictures , or interferenc e. You may skip these c hannels by erasing them . Very w eak stations m ight not be mem oriz ed at all. Y ou may receive these s tations by adding them .
1 Turn on the TV an d select the vid eo channel (3 or 4). Or, if y ou are hooked up with an audio/video cable, s et the TV to AUX or VIDEO. 2 Press the GUIDE b utton. Clic k to see r emote contr ol illustration. The m ain on-scr een menu will appear on the T V screen.
The VCR can be progra mmed to: Automa tically select c hannels on the cable box during a tim er rec ord or VCR Plus+ delayed recording operation. Change channels on rem ote controlled c able boxes with the VCR remote contr ol. BEFORE YOU BEGIN... Make s ure the cable box is pos itioned properly on the VCR.
6 Turn on your cable box and select ch annel 2. Note: Refer to the c able box owner's m anual to identify the cable box output c hannel (usually 3 or 4). 7 Using the VCR re mote, enter the cable box output channel numbers. Click to s ee remote control illustration.
10 Press the GUIDE b utton to enter your cable box brand . The VCR will change the cable box from channel 02 to channel 09 to conf irm that the c orrect code was entered. 11 Cable box chan nel changed to ch annel 9: Press the (1) b utton to end this setting .
DSS BOX SETUP Note: Connect a DSS box to your VCR. (Hookups [H] or [I].) The VCR can be progra mmed to: Automa tically select c hannels on the DSS box during a tim er recor ding operation. BEFORE YOU BEGIN... Make s ure the DSS box is positioned proper ly on the VCR.
5 Press the (2) b utton t o answer "DSS" to the question "WHICH SYSTEM DO YO U USE?" • Press the ( 3) button for norm al T V view ing. Also pr ess (3) to releas e the CABLE BOX or DSS BOX setting after you have set it up. 6 Turn on your DSS box and select ch annel 100.
DSS box did n ot tune to channel 999: Press the ( 2) button to return to st ep 8, and enter a dif ferent code number. If the codes y ou entered do not work; • Try repositioning the DSS box on top of the VCR and reentering the codes. • Try entering all code num bers (00 - 03) .
4 Press the ST OP button to end playback. Rew inding the tape When the v ideo cassette reaches the end of the tape, the VCR w ill stop automatically and rewind th e tape. • If you press the POW ER button while the tape is rewinding, the power will not shut off until the tape has been com pletely rewound.
Press either the or buttons until picture is clear . SPECIA L PLA YBA CK EFFECTS Variable speed play back Still Playback (Pause) Press the PA USE button on th e remote control or PLA Y /STILL on the VCR to still t he tape during play. The pic ture will "freeze".
• After 1 m inute in the PAUSE mode, the VCR autom atically switches to STO P mode to protect the tape. • If noise bar s appear on the TV sc reen during the PAUSE mode, f irst set the VCR to the SLOW m ode by using the shuttle ring and then press the CH ( or ) button on the rem ote control to m inimize the noise bars ( see page 38).
1 Press the GUIDE b utton. 2 Press the (2) b utton to select the VCR SETUP o peration. 3 Press the (4) b utton to select "HIFI" or "LINEA R". • Select Hi-Fi to playback sound rec orded on the Hi-Fi track and for nor mal use. The L and R indic ators will light in the VCR's display panel.
Refer to the f ollowing for details. 1 Press the GUIDE button. T he main on-screen menu will appear on t he TV screen. 2 Press the (6) b utton to select "CM ADV.". The "CO MM ERCIA L ADVA NCE" menu w ill appear on the TV screen. Commercial A dvance M arking: Confirm that "CM SEARCH <ON>" is specified for item 1.
The VCR will not mark com merc ials. To p lay back tapes recorded using Co mmercial A dv ance: Press the (2) b utton to select <A UT O> or <M A NUAL>. Select < AU T O > to play the m arked c omm ercials in the f orward search m ode automatic ally .
Precautions Position of tape afte r commercials were ma rked: After m ark ing comm ercials, the VCR f ast forwards the tape to the end of recording to be ready for the next recordi ng.

The index screen appears on T V. 2 Press the (7) button f or rewind or the (9) bu tton for f orward t o begin the in dex search. • The tape rewinds or f ast for w ards until an index mar k is detected. Dur ing this search, the word INDEX is displayed at the top left corner of the screen.
Press the DISPLA Y button a second time to see just the time counter. Notes: • The linear tim e counter oper ates only if there is something r ecorded on the tape. • The counter changes to 0:00:00 when the tape is ejected. Press the DISPLAY button a t hird time to see th e tape remaining time.
3 A t the p oint that you w ant to go b ack to, press the CLEAR button. This r esets the counter to 0:00:00. 4 Press the STOP button when you are done recording or playing back the tape. 5 Press the REW b utton to rewind th e tape. It will automatically stop at the stop where you cleared the counter in step 3.
Basic recording steps Note: You may use a blank tape or you may record over a previous ly recorded ( erasable) tape. 1 Turn on TV and select the video chan nel (3 or 4). Or, if y ou ar e hooked up with an audio/video cable, set the T V to AUX or VIDEO.
• An indicator on the VCR's dis play shows which speed is selected. 5 Press the CH ( / ) button or the number buttons to select the channe l you want to record. Example: Select chan nel 8. • 100/ENT and (2) and (4) for c hannel 124. 6 Press the REC but ton on the remo te control or the REC/IRT butto n on the VCR.

Types of Delay ed Recordings ONE T IME Records one s how at a particular date and time. DAILY Records a s how at the same tim e every day of the week, Monday through Fr iday .
• If you mak e a mistak e when entering digits, press the CLEAR button repeatedly to display "-" for the incorr ect digit, then reenter the cor rect digit. 6 Enter the st art time by pressing (0), (6), (0) and ( 0) for 6:00. 7 Press the (2) button f or PM.
11 Press the PROGR A M button to set the prog ram in memory. 12 Press the POW ER button t o turn off t he VCR. The delayed recording indic ator will display on the VCR. This tells y ou that the VCR will automatic ally r ecord at the tim es and dates you have programm ed.
1 Press the PROG RA M butt on twice. 2 Press the (1) button. 3 Press the (1), ( 2), (0) butt on to select chan nel 120. • You can select one of DSS or CATV channels 100- 125. 4 Press (1) to record the DSS chann el. DSS channel 120 is s elected. "DSS" will appear under the channel indication.

5 Press the numb er buttons (1) , (2) or (3) to select ONE TIM E, DA ILY or WEEKL Y RECORDING Note: Program ming does not take eff ect unless you select one of these options . 6 Press the (5) button to choose recording speed SP (standard play ) or EP (extended play).
Important: Y our tim ed recording s ettings take ef fect when y ou turn off the power on the VCR. Caution of VCR Plus+ Recording After enter ing a PlusCode number, c heck the inf ormation dis play ed with the "PROGRAM REVIEW ". If there is (are) any unnecessary program (s), please c ancel or correc t it (them) .
TA PE NA VIGATION Tape navigation and dir ector y screen W henever this VCR records a pr ogram, s pecific inf ormation is automatically stored in the VCR m emor y . T his inform ation can be displayed on the TV scr een in a directory, and used to locate a recorded pr ogram you want to watch, or the beginning of a non-r ecorded section of the tape.
Understanding the Dir ectory Tape Num ber Identifies the tape in the VCR. Number of Program s Shows the num ber of pr ograms r ecorded on the tape. Tape Bar Shows the length of a rec orded program and its location on the tape. Recording T ime Shows the actual rec ording time.
The MENU button will flas h for about 30 seconds , and "120" flashes in the VCR's dis play for about 10 s econds. 2 Press the CLEA R button to choose the type of tape you are using.
3 Press the select or buttons to choose the program you want to w atch. The number selected will be highlighted. 4 If you wan t the selected program t o play automatically, press the PLAY button. The s earch screen will appear while sear ching for the selec ted program .

Follow the instructions on page 59 to delete data and provide mor e space in the tape data m emory. Dubbing: Tape Navigation does not operate with tapes on which only audio is recorded or dubbed f rom a CDV (c ompact disc video).
To d isplay captions: View ing tape playback 1 Turn on the TV an d select the vid eo channel (3 or 4). Or, if y ou ar e hooked up with an audio/video cable, set the T V to AUX or VIDEO. 2 Insert a tape with a closed caption s ignal into the VCR. 3 Press the PLAY button on the remote co ntrol.
3 Press and ho ld the "TV" b utton. 4 Press the remote button corresponding to your TV brand as shown in the set-up chart. The T V channel will change to confirm that the remote control has been set.

INTEGRA TING YOUR STEREO SY STEM WITH YOUR VCR Hookup W hen your VCR is connected to a st ereo sy stem , y ou can: • Make high quality "audio only " recordings for up to 6 hours ( on a T-120 video cas sette tape).
3 Press the REC/IRT button on VCR or REC button o n the remote cont rol to start recordin g. 4 Press the ST OP button or remote contro l to stop recordin g. COPYING TA PES FROM A CA MCORDER Hookup You may use y our VCR to copy tapes from any cam corder onto standar d VHS cassette tapes.
2 Press the REC, then PAUSE buttons on the VCR remote control. Th e VCR will go into Record/Pause. 3 Press the PLA Y butt on on the camcorder. You will see th e camcorder tape being play ed on the T V.
To copy fr om one VCR to another VCR 1 Press the AVX button on t he remote control o f VCR-1 so that L 1 (line) appears in t he display. 2 Press the REC, then PAUSE buttons on VCR-1. The VCR w ill go into Record/Pause. 3 Press the PLA Y butt on on VCR-2.
