10 REMOTE OPERA TION Install batteries in the remot e control The remote control re quires two "A A " batteri es. 1 Insert your fingertip into the notch and push the battery compartment lid to remove it.
11 Operating in the remote control 1 Make su re there is no obst acle between th e remote control an d VCR's infrared receiver. Note: You cannot operate the VCR if there is an obstacle (for ex ample, cof fee table, sof a, etc) between the VCR and rem ote control.

Please refer to page 10 to 16 on "HOOKUP" sect ions.
20 When th e auto install is complet e, the channel w ith the low est number app ears in the TV disp lay . Notes • If you press the POWER button inadvertently before connecting all leads, follow the steps on page 20 for further tuning function.
21 1 Press the GUIDE b utton. The m ain on-scr een menu will appear on the T V screen. You may view all the on-screen instr uctions in Englis h, French, or Spanish. W hen you first set up your VCR, it will be set to E n glish. Press the cursor button to select LANGUAGE option, and then pr ess the cursor button for French or for Spanish.
22 5 Press the cu rsor button t o select the minutes, an d then press or cursor button to cha nge the minutes. 6 Press the cu rsor button to select MONT H, and then press the or curs or button to change the month. 7 Press the cu rsor button t o select DA Y, and t hen press the or cursor button to c hange the day.
23 8 Press the cu rsor button t o select YEA R, and t hen press the or cursor button to c hange the year. 9 Press the GUIDE b utton. The VCR cloc k is now set, and should s how the correct tim e of day on the T V screen. Notes: • The cloc k uses the 12- hour sy stem .
24 1 Turn on the TV an d select the vid eo channel (3 or 4). Or, if y ou are hooked up with an audio/video cable, s et the TV to AUX or VIDEO. 2 Press the GUIDE b utton. The m ain on-scr een menu will appear on the T V screen. 3 Press the cu rsor button t o select the SET UP option, and press the ENTER but ton.
25 5 Press the cu rsor button, an d then press the ENT ER button . The VCR will autom atically selec t CATV1 or ANT and store channels re ceived in y our area. It tak es about 2 - 3 minutes . If CAT V1 doesn't give y ou the channels you expect, press the cursor button to s elect CATV2 at step 4 .

A uto blue setting 1 Turn on the TV an d select the vid eo channel (3 or 4).
28 4 Press the cursor button to select A UTO BLUE "ON" or "OFF". ON: The s creen becom es blue and m utes sound when a channel without a broadcast signal on the VCR or a channel on which broadcas ting has finished. • If the signal is too strong, this func tion may not operate even if you specify <ON>.
29 2 Insert a recorded tape. The power com es on autom atically. W hen a cas sette without its safety tab is inserted, playback star ts automatic ally .
30 Play back . W hen VCR playback by SQPB, the inversion noise will appears on screen in ST ILL and SLOW m ode. Rew i nding the tape When the v ideo cassette reaches the end of the tape, the VCR w ill stop and automatically rewind th e tape.
31 Press the REW o r F.FWD butto n, then press it again . To st op the tape, press the STO P button. Note: During super r ewi nd/fas t-forward, there will be an interval of 5 seconds between the tim e the STOP button is press ed and the tape actually stops.
32 Note: To r eactivate auto track ing, simply eject the tape and reinsert it into the VCR. SPECIA L PLA YBA CK EFFECTS Variable speed play back Still Playback (Pause) Press the PA USE button on th e remote control to still the tape during play. The pic ture will "freeze".
33 Slow motion 1 Press the PLAY butto n. 2 Press the SLOW button to slow t he playback speed. 3 Press the PLAY button to return to p lay back at normal speed. Press the ST OP button to stop th e tape. Notes: • Use the CH ( or ) button to m inim iz e any visual noise bands on the screen.
34 Press the REW b utton to search in reverse. Press the F.FW D button t o search ahead. • Press the PLAY button to return to nor mal playback. Press REW or F.FWD and hold it; you can search backward or forward through the tape at a higher speed while v iewing it.
35 3 Press the cu rsor button t o select A UDIO, and th en press the ENTER bu tton. 4 Press the cursor button to select "HIFI" or "LINEAR". • Select Hi-Fi to playback sound rec orded on the Hi-Fi track and for norm al use. • Select LINEA R to play back the sound rec orded on the linear monaur al track.
36 for a scene you w ant to view while scanni ng the pictures • SKIP PLA Y: You can ski p unnecessary scenes duri ng play. Locating the beginning of a re corded program (INDEX SEARCH) NOTE: T his function only works with recor dings that have been set up with indexing.
37 Note: If there ar e no index mark s on the tape, the VCR will just rewind to the beginning or f ast forward to the end. Locating the beginning of a blank section (BLA NK SEA RCH) This function searc hes for a non-r ecorded section of remaining tape, or unused tape, and stops the tape when it loca tes such a section .
38 W hen the beginning of blank is loc ated, the STOP sc reen will appear for five s econds and the tape will stop. • The tape rem aining tim e appears in the VCR display. Note: Make s ure that the tape is at the beginning of blank before you start recording or editing.
39 While playing back your t ape you can skip forw ard by pressing the (VIEW/SKIP/BLA NK) button. The tape will searc h ahead for about a m inute and then resum e play . VIEWING THE ON-SC REEN DISPLA Y Sw itching betw een the clock, time counter and time of remaining tape Press DISP while the on-s creen display is display ed.
40 Press the DISP button a second time to see just the time counter. Notes : • The linear tim e counter oper ates only if there is something r ecorded on the tape. • The counter changes to 0:00:00 when the tape is ejected. Press the DISP but ton a third ti me to see the tape remainin g time.
41 1 Press the DISP but ton tw o or three times. The c ounter will appear in the TV screen. 2 Begin recordin g or playing back a tape. 3 A t the p oint that you w ant to go b ack to, press the CLEAR button. This r esets the counter to 0:00:00. 4 Press the STOP button when you are done recording or playing back the tape.
42 5 Press the REW b utton to rewind th e tape. It will automatically stop at the spot where you cleared the counter in step 3. • Press the PLAY button to watch the tape from the selected s pot. Notes: • Press the DISP button to tur n the counter display off.
43 2 Insert a blank o r erasable tape. The power com es on autom atically and the tape indicator lights on the display. • If a cas sette without its safety tab is inserted, playback starts automatically, and y ou cannot com plete the record operation.
44 Exam ple: Select channel 8. • 100/ENT and and for the channel 124. 5 Press the REC but ton on the remo te control or the REC/IRT butto n on the VCR. Recording will start and the REC indic tor on the VCR will appear. Notes: • Recording will not start unles s the cassette has the s afety tab in place.
45 6 Press the ST OP button to finish reco rding. RECORDING A PROGRA M - RECORDING TIPS To w a tch one program w hile recording another 1 Once you hav e set the VCR for recordin g, press the VCR/T V button. The VCR indic ator disappears. Now, you w ill be viewing through your TV only.
46 Notes: • You can check on the recording by pressing VCR/TV again. T his will switch y ou back to viewing through the VCR, and y ou'll see the progr am you are recording.
47 A utomatic In dexing Your VCR will automatic ally c reate an invisible "INDEX" m ark every time you press the REC button while recording. Dur ing play bac k, the Index Searc h feature will let you move through a tape that has sever al recordings on it by searc hing for the "INDEX" m ark.

53 Note: If progr am is over lap, the VCR gives y ou an error m essage that dis appears from the screen in about 5 seconds. 13 Press the POWER butt on to turn off the VCR. T he delayed recording indicator will display on the VCR. This tells y ou that the VCR will automatic ally r ecord at the tim es and dates you have programm ed.
54 When you have s et up all the timed recor dings you want: • Don't forget to load a videoc assette (with the safety tab still attached) to rec ord on. • If you have installed a cable box, turn on the cable box and select the channel you want to record on the cable box (08 in this case) befor e recording starts .
55 2 Press the ENT ER button to select the PROGRAM M ENU. 3 Press the cu rsor button for the PROGRAM REVIEW o ption, and t hen press the ENT ER. This brings up the screen s etting for the firs t program. If you want to clear this program, press t he button to r emove this program.

57 Hookup When your VCR is conn ected to a stereo system, you can: • Make high quality "audio only " recordings for up to 6 hours ( on a T-120 video cas sette tape). • Receive quality stereo sound from your VCR through y our stereo s y s tem.
58 2 Turn on the stereo, an d start the selectio n you wish to record. 3 Press the REC but ton on VCR or REC but ton on th e remote control to start recording. 4 Press the ST OP butto n to stop reco rding. COPYING TA PES FROM A CA MCORDER Hook-up You may use your VCR to copy tapes from any camcorder onto standard VHS cassette tapes.
59 1 Press the AVX button tw ice on remote con trol, to display L (line) on the T V display. 2 Press the REC, then PAUSE buttons on the VCR remote control. Th e VCR will go into Record/ Pause. 3 Press the PLA Y butt on on the camcorder. You will see th e camcorder tape being play ed on the TV.
60 COPYING FROM ONE VCR TO A NOTHER VCR (DUBBING) Hookup If you have two VCRs, y ou m ay use one VCR to r ecord a tape that is being played back in the other VCR. To copy from one VCR to another VCR 1 Press the AVX button on t he remote control o f VCR-1 so that L (line) appears in t he display.
61 3 Press the PLA Y butt on on VCR-2. You will see the taped program being played on the T V. 4 When you see t he part of the p rogram you wish to record, press the PAUSE button on VCR-1 again to release p ause and start record ing. • Press the ST OP button to finish recording.
