15 ENGLISH C ONNE C TIONS There ar e different types of audio and video connections used to connect the receiv er , the speakers, the video displa y, and the sour ce devices. The Consumer Electronics Associa tion has established the CEA® color- coding standard.
16 C ONNE C TIONS Digi tal Audio The A VR 760/A VR 660 is equipped with four HDMI (High-D efinition Multimedia Interface) inputs, and one output. HDMI t echnology enables digital audio and video information to be carried using a single cable, delivering the highest quality picture and sound.
17 ENGLISH C ONNE C TIONS Video Connec t ions Many sourc es output both audio and video signals (e.g ., Blu-ray Disc or DVD player , cable television box, HD T V tuner , satellite box, VCR, DVR). In addition to the audio connection, make one type of video connection for each of these sources ( only one at a time for any sour ce).
18 SPEAK ER PL AC EM EN T Optimally , the speakers should be placed in a circle with the listening position at its cent er . The speakers should be angled so that they directly face the listening position. Front Speaker Placement The cent er speaker is placed either on top of , below or mounted on the wall above or below the video displa y screen.
19 ENGLISH GET TING ST ARTE D Installing the A VR 760/A VR 660 and connecting it to the other system components can be complex. T o simplify installation, it is suggested that you design your system befor e you begin connecting wires and cables.
20 GET TING ST ARTE D Decide which sources to connect to each of the video inputs 5. : Assign only one unique video input to each sourc e, ex cept that y ou may add a composite video connection to mak e the source ’ s video signal available to the multiz one system.
21 ENGLISH INS T ALL A TIO N Y ou are now r eady to begin installing the A VR. B efore beginning to connect the various components t o the receiv er , turn off all devices, including the A VR 760/A VR 660, and unplug their power cor ds. Don ’t plug in any of the power cor ds until you have finished making all of your connections .
22 INS T ALL A TIO N If any sourc e devices are equipped with a compa tible Remote IR Input, use a 1/8-inch mini-plug inter connect cable (not included) to connect the A VR’ s Remote IR Output to the sourc e device’ s Remote IR Input .
23 ENGLISH INS T ALL A TIO N STEP T WE L VE – Plug in AC P ower C o rds Before plugging the A VR into an unswitched electrical outlet, mak e sure the Main Po wer Switch behind the front-panel door is off , to prev ent the possibility of damaging the A VR in case of a transient power surge .
24 INS T ALL A TIO N • Auto P rogramming : Wait for the r emote to retrieve its entir e librar y of codes for the device type. Y ou will have to pr ess the KL Buttons to transmit every code for the device type until a compatible code set is found . When a compatible c ode set is found, press the OK Butt on to program it 1.
25 ENGLISH INS T ALL A TIO N T o del ete a pro grammed or l earned co de: Access the r emote’ s menu system by pressing and holding the A VR 1. Settings Button for 3 seconds, until the “Main Menu” and “Program Device” messages appear in the L CD Display .
26 IN I T IAL SE TU P In this section, you will configure the A VR 760/A VR 660 to match y our ac tual system. A video display must be connected to one of the video monit or outputs on the receiv er .
27 ENGLISH IN I T IAL SE TU P STEP FOUR – After y ou select “Continue ” , the test will begin. Maintain silence during the EzSet/EQ II configuration.
28 IN I T IAL SE TU P 6 -/8- Channel I nput s The 6-/8-Channel Analog Audio Inputs are used when pla ying cer tain multichannel discs (DVD-Audio , Blu-ray Disc, SA CD and HD -DVD) on a play er that decodes the audio and outputs it via its multichannel analog audio outputs but not via its HDMI output.
29 ENGLISH IN I T IAL SE TU P Adjust Lip Sync : Resynchronizes the audio and video signals fr om a source t o eliminate a “lip sync ” problem. Lip sync issues can occur when the video portion of a signal undergoes additional processing in either the sourc e or the video display .
30 OP ERA TION Now that y ou have installed your components and c ompleted a basic configuration, y ou are ready to begin enjoying y our home theater system. TURN IN G ON THE A VR 7 60/ A VR 66 0 Flip down the F ront-P anel Door and press the Main Pow er Switch in.
31 ENGLISH OP ERA TION The av erage home audio speaker sensitivity is 88dB SPL (8 ohms, 1 watt , 1 meter). Check the sensitivity specification for your loudspeak ers, found in the owner’ s manual or on the manufac turer’ s Web site .
32 OP ERA TION USING TH E TUNE R T o select the A VR 760/A VR 660’ s built-in tuner: Press the Sourc e List Button on the front panel. Use the 1. KL Buttons to scroll to the desir ed tuner band. Press the Radio Source Selector on the remot e. Press it again to switch 2.
33 ENGLISH OP ERA TION USB PLA YBA CK T o enjoy audio and still-image playback of media st ored on a USB flash drive , connect the drive to the fron t-panel USB Port and selec t the USB source on the A VR. Press the Menu Button and select “Browse USB” .

36 OP ERA TION SE LECTING A SUR ROUN D MOD E Surround mode selection can be as simple or sophisticated as your individual system and tastes . Feel fr ee to experiment, and you ma y find a few favorites for certain sources or program types. Mor e detailed information on surround modes may be found in the Adv anced Functions Manual.
37 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE PROCESSOR RESET If the unit behaves err atically after a pow er surge, first turn off the Main Po wer Switch and unplug the AC po wer cord for at least 3 minutes . Plug the cord back in and turn the r eceiver on. If this doesn’ t help, reset the A VR.
