990-7031C, Rev ision 4 12/99 1 Introduction This Uninterru ptible Power Supply (UPS) is design ed to prevent black outs, brow nouts, s ags and su rges from reaching your com puter and other valuable electronic equipm ent.
990-7031C, Rev ision 4 12/99 2 Inst allation Install ing your UP S req uires five steps: 1. Position the UPS in the desired locatio n. For rack m ount units this m ay in clude installing the rails in to the rack. 2. Conn ect the batteries . All UPSs ship w ith th e batteries dis connected.
990-7031C, Rev ision 4 12/99 3 Determine the Loca tion of the UPS in the Rack UPSs a re hea vy. Select a rack l ocat ion stur dy enough to handle the weight. Mo unt the UP S at o r near the b otto m of the rack. Select a rack location w ith adequate air f low that is free f rom exces sive dust .

Replace the tw o screw s (rem oved in step 1) that hold the rail sections together. 4 Bac k Attach th e rail to the back rack post using th e same hardw are (10-32 f lat head screw s and con ical w ashers) u sed in step 2.
990-7031C, Rev ision 4 12/99 5 2. Connect the B atteries Note: All UPSs ship with the b atteries discon nected. In add ition, 5000 VA uni ts have the batteries s hipped outside the UPS case so you m ust install the batteries before connecting them .

Connect Powe r and Equipment to the UPS • Connect th e UPS line cord (L6-30 plug ) into the electrical outlet. • Use y our equipm ent’s pow er cords to con nect to the UPS. Caution: DO NOT use a standard serial interface cable to connect to the Com puter In terface Port on the UPS.
990-7031C, Rev ision 4 12/99 8 Charge the ba ttery The UPS charges its battery w henever it is conn ected to utility pow er. The battery will ch arge fully during the f irst four hours of norm al operation. Do not expect full runtim e during this in itial charge period.

990-7031C, Rev ision 4 12/99 10 Load Bar Gra ph 85% 67% 50% 33% 17% The 5-LED display on the lef t of the f ront panel represents the pow er drawn from th e UPS as a percentage of total capacity. For exam ple, if three L EDs are lit, the load is drawing betw een 50% and 67% of the UPS’s capacity.

For the 5000 VA u nit: Rem ove the fron t bezel by gras ping the f inger clips on the side of th e bezel and carefu lly loosen ing the f our (4) snaps.
