21 Mute Press this button to eliminate sound. Press mute again or press the volume adjust buttons to restore sound. Select channel Changes channels. Press channel up to increase the channel number . Press channel down to decrease the channel number . In PC or A V mode, press either button to return to TV mode.

23 Inser ting the R emote Contr ol Batteries 1 Open the battery comp artment cover at the back of the remote con t rol (A). 2 Insert the batteries paying attention to the polarity markings inside the battery compartmen t (B). 3 Replace the battery comp artment cover (C).
24 CAUTION • If the remote control is not used fo r a long period, remove the batteries and store them separately . • Handle damaged or leaking batteries carefully , and wash hand s after such handli ng. • If your remote control ha s two batteries, do not mix new and old batteries because the life of the new batteries will be shorten ed.
25 8 Making Connections Connecting to an Antenna or Cable TV 1 Connect one end of the VHF/UHF (Antenna) or CA TV cable to ANT Jack (VHF/UHF IN Jack) on the back of the TV . 2 Connect the other en d of the VHF/ UHF (Antenna) or CA TV cable to the antenna socket or CA TV cable.
26 Connecting to A V De vices Connect external devices such as VC D / DVD player s or VCRs to the TV using the A V1, A V2, A V3, and A V4 ports on the back or side of the TV .
27 Connecting to a VCR/ VCD/DVD player using S-V ideo The following illustration shows how to connect the TV to a VCR / VC D / DVD player using the A V2 S-Video por t. Actual connections may vary according to the make and model of the device. Refer to the use r ’s manual included with the camcorder for more det ailed instructions.
28 Connecting to a VCR/VCD/DVD player usin g composite video The illustration presented here shows ho w to connect your TV to a V CR / VCD / DVD player using the A V3 compos ite video po rt. Actual connections may vary according to the make and model of your device.
29 Connecting to a Video Camera using S-Video The following illustration shows how to c onnect the TV to a camcorder using the A V4 S-Video port. Actual connections ma y vary according to the make and model of the d evice. Refer to the user’s manual in cluded with the camcorder for more det ailed instructions.
30 Connecting Exter nal Ear phones External earphones may be used to lis ten to the TV rather than using the built-in speakers. Connect exte rnal head phones to the earphone line out port as illustrated. Notes: • External earp hones are not includ ed with the TV .
31 Connecting an Amplifier of Speak er s Connect an external amp lifier of speakers to the line out port to provide better sound quality . Refer to the following illustration. LINE OUT RL RL Amplifier and speakers Audio cable Note: Location of the connectors depends on the TV model.
32 Connecting to a PC Connect the TV to your PC to use it as the mon itor using the DVI port as shown. Connect the DVI port of the TV to the DVI output of the PC. Connect the line out port of the PC to the line in port of your TV to listen to audio fr om the PC.
33 Connecting the P owe r Adapter 1 Connect the power cord to the power adapter as illustrated. 2 Plug the power adapter connector in to the DC-IN input jack on the rear panel of the TV . 3 Insert the three-pronged plug at the other end of the power cord into a powe r outlet.
34 Inser ting a compact Flash Car d ( CF car d ) 1 Remove the card reader slot cover from the side of the TV . Note: Step 1 depends on which TV model you purchase. If the TV’s card reader slot does not have a cover , you can ignore step 1 and go straight to step 2.
35 9 Using the TV Using the Remote Co ntr ol For best results, use the remote control within a dist ance of 20 feet (6 meters) from the front of the TV . Do not exceed an angle of 30 degrees when pointin g at the TV. Notes • The operational distance may be shortened wh en the signal sensor is directly expose d to strong light.
36 Notes: • The TV supports S-V ideo i nput in addition to no rmal video and aud io signals. The TV detects the signal ty pe au tomatically and gives prior ity to S-Video when two signals ar e detected at the same time. • A V5 appears on selected models only .
37 3 Press SW AP from the remote control to switch the focus from the PIP to the main source. The PIP identification line disappears and the PIP window border disappears. 4 Press POSITION fro m the remote control to move the PIP window to one of the four corners of the screen as shown.
38 Using the F lash car d F eature The Flash card feat ure enable s you to vi ew photos, w atch movi es, and listen to MP3 files on CF cards inserted in the Flash card slot (A V 5). The following desc ribes the Flash car d feature. St arting Flash card 1 Insert a CF card into the CF card slot (A V 5).
39 Remote Control Keys The follow ing table lists the remote control butt ons used to operate t he Flash card feature. Button Flash card Name Function Arrow ( S / T / W / X ) Press these buttons to navigate the Flash card menus. In Photo mode, use these buttons to pan a picture when zooming in.
40 Viewing Photos 1 Use the remote control arrow buttons to select PHOT O. 2 Press ente r . 3 A screen appears displaying thumbnails of images on the CF card. 4 Use the arrow buttons to select a thumbnail image. 5 Press ente r . 6 The selected thumbnail exp ands to full screen mode.
41 Rot ating Images Follow these instructions to rota te images when in Photo mode. 1 Put an image in full screen mode as des cribed in the previous section. 2 Press CC/TTX on the remote control. 3 The image is rotated 90 degr ees ( 90°) in a clockwise direction.
42 Listening to Music 1 Use the remote control arrow buttons to select MUSIC. 2 Press ente r . A screen appears displaying a list of the music stored on your CF card. 3 Use the arrow buttons to select a music file. The selected file start s playing. When the file finishes playing, the next file in th e list is played .
43 W atching V ideos 1 Use the remote control arrow buttons to select VIDEO. 2 Press ente r . 3 A screen appears displaying thumbnails of the videos on your CF card. 4 Use the arrow buttons to select a video file. 5 Press enter . The selected video file begins playing.
44 Using the Setup Menus From the Flash card m a i n s cr e e n , press menu to enter the SETUP MENU MAIN P AGE. Use the arrow buttons to select a menu item and press enter to ope n the selected item. Select EXIT SETUP and press enter to leave the setup menu.
45 Movie Setu p Select MOVIE SETUP and press ente r to display t he movie setu p menu. • Interval Time: Use the arrow bu ttons to select INTERVAL TIME. Interval time mode has the following options: – FA S T : sets an increased interval speed between playback.
46 10 Adjusting On-Scr een Display (OSD) Settings The On-Screen Display (OSD) me nu system provides a quick and simple method to adjust your TV's setting. This ch apter describes how to change each of the available settings. The OSD menu can be accessed thro ugh either the control p anel or the remote control.
47 Picture Setting Notes: • Y ou can control the OSD with either the remote co ntrol or the contro l pa n e l . • PC picture mode and TV picture mode have different menu items; PC picture mode includ es a Backlig ht adjustment. Press menu to enter the OSD Main Menu screen.
48 Brightness Use the Brightness control to adjust the br ightness of the screen image. 1 The slider bar show s the current setting. 2 Press X to increase the brightness.
49 Contrast Use the Contra st control to adjust the co ntrast of the scree n image. 1 Press T to select CONTRAST . The slider bar shows the current setting.
50 Hue Use Hue to adjust the r a tio of colors in the screen image. 1 Press T to select HUE . The slider bar shows the current setting. 2 Press X to increase the hue .
51 Saturation Use the Saturation control to adjust the density of the colors in the sc reen image. 1 Press T to select SA TURA TION . The slider bar shows the current setting. 2 Press X to increase the saturation. 3 Press W to decr ease the saturation.
52 Sharpness Use the Sh arpness c ontrol to adju st the sharpness of the screen image. 1 Press T to select SHARPNESS . The slider bar shows the current setting.
53 Backlight (PC mo de) Use the Backlight control to adjust the intensity of the screen backlight. This control is only for use in PC mode. 1 Press T to select BACKLIGHT . The slider bar shows the current setting. 2 Press X to increase the backlight intensity .
54 Black Level Use the Black Level control to adjust t he intensity of the black element s of the screen image. 1 Press T to select BLACK LEVEL . The slider bar shows the current setting. 2 Press X to increase the black level. 3 Press W to decr ease the black level.
55 Color T emperature Use the Color T emperature control to adjust the co lor temperature of the screen image. A warm setti ng will result in an imag e with a predominantly red hue. A cold setting will result in a bluer image. 1 Press T to select COLOR TEMP .
56 Preset Use the Preset function to reset all settings to factory default s. 1 Press T to select PRESET . 2 Press W or X . “ON” appears in the brackets. All picture settings are returned to the factory-set default values. Note: The preset function erases all of your custom picture settings.
57 Audio Setting Note: Y ou can control the OSD with either the remote control or the control pan e l. Press menu to enter the OSD Main Menu screen. 1 Press T to select AUDIO.
58 Tr e b l e Use the treble co ntrol to adjust the lev el of audio treble pr oduced by the TV . 1 The slider bar shows the current setting . 2 Press X to increase the treble.
59 Bass Use the Ba ss control to adjust the le vel of audio bass prod uced by the TV. 1 Press T to select BASS . The slider bar shows the current setting.
60 Balance Use the balance control to alter the au dio balance between left and right speakers. 1 Press T to select BALANCE . The slider bar shows the curre nt setting. 2 Press X to shif t the balance to the right speaker . 3 Press W to shif t the balance to the left speaker .
61 BBE, T ruSurround , and EALA Use the BBE, T r uSurround, and EALA control to set the audio output characteristics for the TV. 1 Press S or T to select BBE, T ruSurround, or EALA.
62 Earphone Use the earphone control to set the earphone output volume . 1 Press T to select EARPHONE . The slider bar shows the current setting. 2 Press X to increase the earphone volume.
63 Preset Use the Preset function to reset all settings to factory default s. 1 Press T to select PRESET . 2 Press W or X . “ON” appears in the brackets. All audio settings are returned to the factory-set default values. Note: The preset function erases all of your custom audio setting s.
64 TV Setting Notes: • O perate the OSD with ei ther the remote control or the contro l panel. • T he TV OSD menu is not available if the input source is not TV . Press menu to enter the OSD Main Menu screen. 1 Press T to select TV . 2 Press W or X to enter the TV Menu.
65 TV/CA TV Use the TV/CA TV setting to determine whether the TV rece ives cable TV signals or broadcast TV signals. 1 The current setting is shown in brackets. 2 Press W or X to select CA TV in order to receive cable TV signals. 3 Press W or X to select TV in order to receive broadcast TV signals.
66 MTS Use the MTS function to determine which audio ch annel is heard from speakers and ear phones. 1 Press T to select MTS . The current setting is shown in brackets. 2 Press W or X to select from the various MTS options: • STEREO – to select the main audio signal.
67 Auto Scan Use the Auto Scan fun ction to scan for available channels. 1 Press T to select AUT O SCAN . The current setting is shown in brackets. 2 Press W or X to enable auto scanning. “ON” is displayed in brackets and the TV st arts scanning automatically for TV channels.
68 Channel Add/Erase Use the Channel Add/Erase function to add or erase channels from the TV memory . 1 Press T to select CH. ADD/ERASE . The current setting is shown in brackets. 2 Press X to add the current channel. 3 Press W to delete the curren t channel.
69 Favorite Ch annel Use the Favorite Channel function to se t favorite channels. 1 Press T to select FAV . CHANNEL . 2 Press W or X to enter the FAV . CHANNEL menu. 3 Press S or T to set 4 favorite channels. 4 Press W or X to choose a channel to assign to the favorite channel number you selected in step 3.

71 DOS Mode Use DOS mode to display computer text, but not graphics, on your TV screen. 1 The current setting is shown in brackets. 2 Press W or X to toggle the setting between TEXT and GRAPHIC. • TEXT – select this option when using DOS at the command line.

74 Sleeper The sleeper turns the TV off automatically after a set time. 1 Press T to select SLEEPER . The current setting is shown in brackets. 2 Press W or X to select a sleep timer value from the fo llowing: •O F F •3 0 •6 0 •9 0 • 120 Y ou can also press SLEEP on the remote control to select OFF , 30, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.
75 Time This setting allows you to set the system time. 1 Press T to select TIME . 2 Press W or X to enter the TIME menu. The TIME submenu appears. 3 Press W or X to increase or decrease the hour . 4 Press T to select MINUTE. Press W or X to increase or decrease the minutes.

77 Parent al The Parental Con trol Functio n (V -CHIP) is us ed to blo ck program vie wing based on the ratin gs sent by the broadcast st ations 1 . The United S tates has two rating systems for viewing content s, TV Parental Guidelines , and movie ratings.
78 Note T o use p arental control functions, a p assword must be entered. The default p assword is 0000. The password may only be entered using the remote control. If the wrong password is entered, “Wrong Password” is displayed. See “Chan ge Password” on page 83.
