2 1.2 AIS Receiv er F A -30 Mounti ng cons idera tions, mounti ng The FA-30 ca n be mounted on a desktop, deck or o n a bulkhead. When sel ecting a mounting locat ion, keep the following point s in mind: • The temperature and humidity should be moderate and stable.
3 1.3 Whip Ante nna Location The locat ion of the AIS VHF- antenna should be car efully consider ed. Digital c om mu- nicati on is more sensitiv e than analog/voice communicati on to interference cr eated by reflect ions i n obst ructi ons lik e masts a nd booms.
4 1.4 Wi ring Connect power source, LAN cable, VHF antenna and gr ound wire as shown below. *1 Supply from br eaker on switchboar d. *2 If COM lines (connecti on for NavNet, sensor) are not used, tape them to prevent s hort circui t. 5 Attaching coaxial conn ector (M-P-5) to coaxial cable The antenna cable (coaxial cable, type 5D-2V) is terminated at the FA-30 with an M-P-5 coaxi al connector. 6 2. WEB SOFTW ARE SETUP , DA T A DISPLA YS 2.1 AIS Receiv er F A -30 The FA-30 has no power switch. Power is fed from the shi p’s switchboard, and a pow- er switch on the switchboard turns the FA-30 on or off. When powered, the PW R LED (green ) on the cover l ights.
7 2.2 COM Port Setup, Network Setup The FA-30 is set up fr om the PC or external displ ay. The procedure below shows how to set up the COM/POWER and NETWORK ports from a PC. NOTICE: Only one FA-30 may be connected to the network. Start up 1. Start up the PC and enter I P address and sub net mask.

If change is necessary , click t he Data T ype drop-down l ist and choose dat a type as a pplicable, among t he following choices.

10 2.3 Own V essel D at a Disp lay , Chann el Selecti on The Own Vessel Data display shows your ship ’s MM SI no., RX channel nos., and channel sel ection method. 1. Show the main menu, referring to section 2.2. 2. Click Own V essel Data. Description o f own v essel data MMSI: MMSI number (nine-digit number).
11 5. Click the RX Mode drop-down li st to choose which channel (s) to receive. RX 1+2: Rec eive via channels 1 and 2. RX 1: Receive via channel 1. RX 2: Receive via channel 2. 6. Click t he Channel Selectio n drop-down li st. 7. Choose Manual. 8. Click t he OK button to finish.
12 2.4 Sensor St atu s The sensor sta t us display provi des inform ation about se nsors connected t o the FA-30. 1. Show the main menu, referring to section 2.2. 2. Click Sensor S tatus . The illus tration below shows typical sensor sta tus indications.
13 3. MAINTENANCE, TROUBLESHOOTING 3.1 Ma inten ance Regular mainten ance helps maintain good performance. Check the items li sted below at least monthly to hel p keep your equipment in good working or der. 14 3.2 Replacing the Fuse The fuse (2A) i nside the FA-30 prote cts it from ov ercurrent and equipment fault. If the unit cannot be powered, that is, the P WR (power) LED i s off, the fuse may have bl own. If this happens, turn off the power to the FA-30, open the cover and check t he fuse.
15 3.4 Dia gnostics The built-in diagnost ic facility display s program version no. and checks RAM, ROM and RX channel s for proper oper ation. 1. Open Intern et Explorer a nd show the main menu. 2. Click T est to show the T est di splay . The program versio n number appears on the first lin e.
