2 LifeBook S Series Notebook BIOS S Series BIOS BIOS SETUP UTILITY The BIOS Setup Utility is a program that sets up the operating environment for your notebook. Y our BIOS is set at the fac tory for nor m al operating conditions, therefor e there is no need to set or change the BIOS en vi- ronment to operate your notebook.

4 LifeBook S Series Notebook BIOS MAIN MENU – SETTING STAN DARD SYSTEM PARAMETERS The Main M enu allows you t o set or view the cur rent system parameters.
5 System Date: –— –— Sets and displa ys the curre nt date. Date is in a month/ day/year numeric format with 2 digits each for month and day and 4 digits fo r year . (MM/DD/YYYY) for example: 10/16/2001. Y ou may change each segment of the date separately .

7 Sectors: • A n umber between 0 and 63 –— This a ppears onl y when Hard D isk is s elected. When it i s select ed, you ca n change the val ue. This fie ld is incremente d by pressing the [Spacebar]. This field is dec remented by pressing the [-] key .

The driv e ty pe is displayed on this men u as well as the Main men u. Y our notebook auto-senses the c haracterist ics of the internal CD-ROM Driv e installed.
9 Exiting from Main Menu W hen you ha ve finished setting the parameters on this menu, you can either exit from the setup utility , or move to another menu. If y ou wish to exit from the setup utilit y , press the [Esc] key or use the cursor keys to go to the Exit menu.

19 SECURITY MENU – SETTING THE SECURITY FEATURES The Security menu allows you to set up the data secu rity features of your not ebook to fit your operating needs and to view the cur rent data securit y configuration. 25 INFO MENU - DISPLAYS BA SIC SYSTEM INFORMATI ON The Info menu is a displa y only screen that pr ovides the configuration information for y our notebook. The following table shows the names of the men u fields for the Info menu and the info rmation display ed in those fields.

27 Discard Changes –— Selecting Discard Changes will load the pr evious values in BIOS memory for all menu fields. The message Load previous configuration now? [Yes] [No] will be displayed. When confirmed the setup utility w ill return to the Ex it menu.
