The following describes the proper use of batteries and how to prolong their life . Incor- rect use can shorten battery life or cause leak- age, overheating, fi re, or explosion.

7 First Steps First Steps Charging the Battery Charging the Battery The battery is not charged at shipment. Charge the batter y before use . 1 Place the batter y in the supplied battery charger . Inser t the batter y in the orientation indicated by the CBD labels.
8 First Steps Charging the Battery 3 Charge the battery . Remove the battery when charging is complete. See the speci cations ( P 110) for char ging times (note that char ging times increase at low t em- peratures). Q Unplug the charger when it is not in use.
9 First Steps Inser ting the Battery and a Memor y Card Inserting the Batter y and a Memor y Card Although the camera can store pictures in internal memory, optional SD , SDHC, and SDX C memory cards (sold separat ely) can be used to stor e addi- tional pictures.
10 First Steps Inser ting the Battery and a Memor y Card 2 I nsert the batter y . Align the orange stripe on the battery with the orange battery latch and slide the bat- tery into the camera, k eeping the battery latch pressed to one side . Con rm that the battery is securely latched.
11 First Steps Inser ting the Battery and a Memor y Card 3 I nsert the memor y card. Holding the memor y card in the orientation shown at right, slide it in until it clicks into place at the back of the slot. Q Be sur e card is in the correct orientation; do not insert at an angle or use force.

Note that depending on the printer , not all the functions described below may be supported.

54 Connections Printing Pictures via USB Printing the DPOF Print Order Printing the DPOF Print Order The K PRINT ORDER (DPOF) option in the playback menu can be used to create a digital “print order” for P ictBridge -compatible pr inters ( P 87) or de - vices that suppor t DPOF .
