14 Attach ing th e Strap and Le ns Cap Attaching the st rap 1 Attach the strap to the strap mounts on the camera. Once you have attached both ends of the strap, check carefully to make sure that the strap is firmly secured. 2 Attach the lens cap cord to the lens cap.

16 Loadin g the Ba tteries 2 Load the ba tteries correctly as indicated by the polari ty icons . CAUTIO N Match the polarity icons ( + and , ) of the batteries to those on the inside of the battery cover. 3 Press on t he battery c over to pus h the batteries down.

18 Load ing the Me mory Card Although you can store pi ctures i n the c amera’ s intern al memory, you can stor e many more images on the Memory C ard (so ld separ ately). You can u se the xD- Picture Card and the SD Mem ory Card with th e FinePix S1000fd .
19 Getting Ready CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
20 Load ing t he Memo ry Card CAUTIO N • When storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. A Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows a Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.
21 Getting Ready Turn ing On and O ff Turning the camera on in Shooting mode Slide the ON/OFF switch to turn the came ra on in Shooting mode . Slide the ON/OFF switch again to turn the camera o ff. 22 Tur ning On and O ff Setting the language, date , and time When usin g the camera for the firs t time after purchasing, the lan guage, da te, and time a re clear ed. Set the langua ge, date, and tim e. 1 [ ] screen appears when turning the camera on.

31 Using the Camera Subjects not suitable for Int elligent Face Det ectio n Intelligent Face Detection automatically focuses on a face(s). However, difficulties will occur with the Intelligent Face Detection mode in the following situations: • The face is ob scured by glasses, sunglasses, a hat or hair.
32 Taking Pictures ( B AUTO Mode) 1 Move the camera slightly so that one o f the subjects is in the AF frame. 2 Press the sh utter button d own halfway t o focus on the subject. 3 Continue to hold the shut ter button down halfway. Move the cam era back to the original image and press t he shutter button full y.
