15 Getting Ready Z <Char ging Indic ator and St atuses > CAUTIO N • Unplug the battery ch arger from th e power outlet wh en it is not in use. • If the terminals of battery are soiled, it may not be possible to charge it. Clean the battery terminals and battery charger terminals with a clean, dry cloth.
16 Load ing th e Batte ry Battery is required to ope rate the d igital cam era. At fir st, load the b attery in th e came ra. 1 Open the battery cover. CHECK Check that the camera is turned off before opening the battery cover. CAUTIO N • Do not open the battery cover while the camera is on.
17 Getting Ready CAUTIO N • Load the battery in the correct direction. • If the battery is loaded with the arrow pointing toward opposite direction from the camera, or th e indicators are not aligned, it may become jammed and damaged. Use the battery carefully to avoid overheating, igniting or exploding.
18 Load ing th e Memor y Card Although you can store pictu res i n the came ra’s i nternal memory, you can stor e many more images on the Memory C ard (so ld separ ately). You can u se an xD- Pictur e Car d and S D Memo ry Card with t he Fine Pix Z200fd.
19 Getting Ready CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
20 Load ing the Me mory C ard CAUTIO N • When storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. A Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows a Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

22 Tur ning On an d Of f Setting the language, date, an d time When usin g the camera for the firs t time after pur chasing, the lan guage, da te, and time are cleared . Set the langua ge, date, and tim e. 1 [ ] screen appears when turning the camera on.

27 Getting Ready Setti ng Silent Mod e Set Silent mo de pres sing and hold ing D ISP/ BACK. Use this mod e for taking pi ctures in pla ces where the use of flash and making an op eration or shutte r sound are restricted.
28 Taki ng Pic tures (AU TO Mo de) This section describes th e basic operat ions. Refer t o p.51 for setti ng AUTO Mode. 1 Turn the cam era on. A Open the lens cover completely so that it will not move further. 2 Select the folder. You ca n save imag es or m ovies in the folder by categor y.
29 Using the Camera Holdi ng the camera corre ctly CAUTIO N • Moving the camera while shooting gives a blurred picture (camera shake). Hold the camera steadily with both hands. • If the lens or flash is obscured by your fingers or the strap, subjects may be out of focus or the brightness (exposure) of your shot may be incorrect.
30 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) 4 Focus on the main subject in the AF frame and press the shutter button down halfway. CHECK • Focus on the subject Double beep is heard Indicator lamp lit green •.
31 Using the Camera Flash Change the flash mode when you wan t to take pictures without flash. See p.60 for information on flash. CAUTIO N • The image shown on the LCD monitor before the picture is taken may differ in brightness, color, etc. from the image actually recorded.
32 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Using Intelligent Face De tection/ Red-eye R emoval whe n taking pictures Intelligent Face Det ection allows you to focus on and adjust the brightn ess of people’s faces. Intelligent Face Detection is effective with the camera held horizontally or vertically.
33 Using the Camera B Press the shutter b utton down fully to ta ke pictures. CHECK [ FACE DETECTION b REMOVAL ON] When a picture i s taken with [ FACE DETECTION b REMOVAL ON] set, the red-eye eff ect will be dete cted and corr ected bef ore t he image is recor ded.
34 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) CAUTIO N Camera shake and blurring may remain depending on scenes. Using AF/AE lock 1 Move the camera slightly so that one of the subjects is i n the AF frame. 2 Press the sh utter button d own halfway to focus on the subject.
35 Using the Camera 3 Continue t o hold the shutter button down halfway. Move the camera back to the original image and p ress the shutter b utton full y. CAUTIO N When shooting with the AF/AE lock function, turn off Intelligent Face Detection. MEMO • AF/AE lock can be applied repeatedly before the shutter is released.

38 Viewing the Imag es Playback of images i n the fol der Play back images saved in folders. This camer a has 7 folders ([ MY PICTURES], [ FAMILY], [ TRAVEL], [ EVENTS], [ FAVORITES], [ PRIVATE], [ Y INT ERNAL MEM ORY]). You can play back other image s in othe r folders d uring p layback.
39 Using the Camera MEMO • The password function is only a lock function and you cannot encrypt it. • The [PRIVATE] folder can be played back with other cameras as a normal folder. Z Inputti ng pass word A 4-digit password is nece ssary to play bac k, move or copy image s in the [PRIVATE] f older, if you set the password.

41 Using the Camera Multi -frame pla yback Use this f uncti on to displ ay a sin gle fra me, 2 fram es, 9 frames i n the fol der, or 100 fr ames r egardless o f the folder . You can compare and sele ct image s using t he Multi-fram e display. Use the zoo m lever to c hange the display.
42 Viewing the Imag es MEMO • Keep rotating the wheel dial when reaching the last image in a folder to move to the next folder. • The [PRIVATE] folder with a password set cannot be displayed. Sorting by date In so rting by da te mod e ( ➝ p.3 7), you ca n view all im ages taken on the same day.

45 Using the Camera MEMO To erase another frame (file), repeat above steps. When erasing frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK. CAU TION Pressing MENU/OK repeatedly erases consecutive frames (files). Take care not to erase a frame (file) by mistake.
46 G Erasin g the Imag es/Movie s MEMO MEMO • W hen using a Memory Card, the images in the selected folder of the Memory Card are erased. When not using a Memory Card, the images in the internal memory are erased. • P rotected frames (files) cannot be erased.

56 Setting t he Shoot ing Mode Use this mod e to take pictures of a movin g subject . It gives prio rity to fa ster shutter sp eeds. CHECK When setting [ . SPORT] mode, the camera sets to [ HIGH-SPEED SHOOTING] mode ( ➝ p.70) automatically. Use this mod e for s hooting evening an d night scenes.

This m ode allo ws you to take pict ures of people at nigh t that clearly show bo th your sub jects and the night t ime backdrop.

75 Advanced Features — Photography Area shot an d quality sett ing Normal shooting provides an aspect ratio of 4:3 and shooting provides an aspect ratio of 3:2 (same aspect ratio as 35 mm film and post card). MEMO • The bigger the number of recorded pixels, the better the image quality becomes.
76 [SHOOTING MENU] MEMO When anything other than [ s MANUAL] in the Photography mode is selected, only [AUTO] can be selected for the [ ISO] (sensitivity) setting. CAUTIO N Although higher sensitivity settings will allow you to take pictures in darker locations, they will also increase the amount of speckling in your images.
77 Advanced Features — Photography MEMO • The [ FinePix COLOR] setting is retained even when the camera is off or the mode setting is changed. •[ p -CHROME] may have little visible effect with some subjects or the scene being shot. You may not be able to see any difference on the LCD monitor.

80 [IR MENU] CAUTION • Make sure the receiving camera is turned on when transmitting image data. • Movie images cannot be transmitted. • Images photographed with a camera other than FinePix Z200fd may not be printed or transmitted. 81 Advanced Features — Playback CAUTION • M ovie images cannot be transmitted. • I mage data may be compressed when transmitted. • I f [COMMUNICATION ERROR], [CANNOT BE TRANSMITTED], or [CANNOT BE RECEIVED] appears, press MENU/OK to retransmit the image data, or press DISP/BACK to cancel transmitting.
