19 Getting Ready Load ing th e Memor y Card Although you can store pictu res i n the came ra’s i nternal memory, you can stor e many more images on the Memory C ard (so ld separ ately). You can u se the xD- Pictur e Card and the S D Mem ory Card w ith the Fi nePix F40fd / F inePix F4 5fd.
20 Load ing the Me mory C ard CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
21 Getting Ready CAUTIO N • When storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. A Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows a Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

30 Taking Pictures ( B AUTO Mode) MEMO • The shutter button has a halfway point at which focus and exposure are automatically optimized before taking the picture by pressing fully down. • When pressing the shutter button halfway, a lens operation sound may be heard.

32 Taking Pictures ( B AUTO Mode) Using Intelligent Face De tection when taking pictures Intelligent Face Det ection allows you to focus on and adjust the brightn ess of people’s faces. Intelligent Face Detection is effective with the camera held horizontally or vertically.
33 Using the Camera CAUTIO N • If the camera or subject move as the picture is taken, the subject’s face may move ou t of the Intelligent Face Detection frame. • When the camera is detecting multiple faces, the green frame is set around the face near the ce nter.

If you take pictures outside of the effective flash range, the image may appear dark even if the flash is used.
