20 Loadin g the Ba tteries 2 Load the b atteries correctly as indicated by the polari ty ico ns. CAUTIO N Match the polarity icons ( + and , ) of the batteries to those on the inside of the battery cover.
21 Getting Ready Checking the batter y charge Turn the cam era on and ch eck the batt ery level i ndicator on the LC D mo nitor. A There i s ample ba ttery ch arge. (Not disp layed) B There is in sufficient charge left in the batte ries. The batteries will soon run out.
22 Load ing the Me mory Card Although you can store pictu res i n the came ra’s i nternal memory, you can stor e many more images on the Memory C ard (so ld separ ately). You can u se the xD- Pictur e Card and the S D Mem ory Card w ith the Fi nePix A610 an d Fine Pix A805 .
23 Getting Ready CAUTIO N Be sure to unlock the protection of the SD Memory Card before inserting it. If it is locked, recording/deleting images, as well as formatting are not available. To unlock the protection, slide the switch back, and the SD Memory Card will work normally.
24 Load ing t he Memo ry Card CAUTIO N • When storing Memory Cards, make sure that they are kept out of the reach of children. A Memory Card could be swallowed and ca use suffocation. If a child swallows a Memory Card, seek medical attention or call emergency number right away.

30 Taki ng Pic tures (AU TO Mo de) This section describes th e basic operat ions. 1 Turn the cam era on. A Press POW ER down f ully to turn t he camera on. B Set the M ode dial to q (FinePi x A805 only). CAUTIO N Step B is only for FinePix A80 5. Since there is n o mode dial on FinePix A610, ignore step B when using that model.
31 Using the Camera 2 Check the composition on the L CD monitor. To adjust zoom scale u sing the Zoom switc h: MEMO • S elect e Macro mode to take close-up shots ( ➝ p.54). • U se digital zoom when you want to shoot the subject closer ( ➝ p.49, 88).
32 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) 3 Focus on the main subject in the AF frame and press the shutter button down halfway. CHECK • Focus on the subject Double beep is heard Indicator lamp lit green •.
33 Using the Camera Flash Change the flash mode when you wan t to take pictures without flash. See p.55 for information on flash. CAUTIO N • The image shown on the LCD monitor before the picture is taken may differ in brightness, color, etc. from the image actually recorded.
34 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Taking pictures with the focus and exposure locked In th e abov e compo sit ion, the su bject s (two peopl e in th is case) are not in th e AF fra me. Press ing the sh utter b utton halfway at this point will result in the subje cts being out of focus.
35 Using the Camera 3 Continue t o hold the sh utter bu tton down halfway. Move the camera back to the original image and p ress the shutter b utton full y. CHECK When using FinePix A610, the camera makes a beep sound and takes the picture when you press the shutter button down fully.
36 Taking Pictures ( AUTO Mo de) Adjusting the shot composition Select the LCD monitor display. Press DISP/BACK to cha nge the LCD monitor display. Position the m ain subject at the interse ction of two lines in this fr ame o r align o ne of the hori zontal lines wit h the horizo n.

40 Viewing the Imag es Sorting by date In sorti ng by date mode, yo u can view all images take n on the same day. A Press n , o , p , or q to move th e cursor (color ed frame ) to the se lecting fr ame.

42 Erasi ng the Ima ges/Mo vies MEMO To erase another frame (file), repeat above steps. When erasing frames (files) is completed, press DISP/ BACK. CAU TION Pressing MENU/OK repeatedly erases consecutive frames (files). Take care not to erase a frame (file) by mistake.
43 Using the Camera MEMO MEMO • W hen using a Memory Card, the image s in the Memory Card are erased. When not using a Memory Card, the images in the internal memory are erased. • S electing BACK returns to single-frame playback without erasing any frames (files).

50 Shooting Mode CAUTIO N • Using the DIGITAL ZOOM allows you to enlarge your subject and shoot it. However, it will lower your image quality. Set the DIGITAL ZOOM wh en requiring it. • When using DIGITAL ZOOM, an increasing ‘speckling’ effect might be observed in the LCD monitor.

52 Shooting Mode Use this mod e to shoot sunset, ma king the colo rs more v ivid. Use this mode f or shoo ting with a wa terpro of case. It is effective for tak ing more vi vid shots of ocea n blue. Use this mode to take clear close-u p shots when zoom ing up a flo wer.

70 Using PLAYBACK MENU MEMO • When DPOF settings were specified on another camera. When the data includes a frame (file) with DPOF settings that were specified on another camera, “ RESET DPOF OK?” appears. Pressing MENU/OK erases all of the DPOF settings already specified for each frame (file).

73 Advanced Features — Playback MEMO To stop the pr ocedur e midwa y If the images are very large, protecting or unprotecting all the frames (files) may take some time. If you want to take a picture or record a movie during the procedure, press DISP/BACK.

83 Advanced Features — Movie MEMO If the subject of the shot is very bright, white vertical streaks or black horizontal streaks may appear in the image during playback. This is normal. CAUTIO N • You may not be able to record movie with sound when using FinePix A610.

89 Settings The LC D m onitor dark ens w hen camera is not used for 8 seconds. When this fun ction is activ e, you can save power and get the ma xim um pos sibl e runn ing t ime f rom yo ur bat teri es. MEMO Pressing any button wakes the camera up. CAUTIO N The LCD power save function is disabled during Playback mode and Movie mode.
