1-2 Setting Up the Printer Connecting the Cables and Grounding the Printer You can connect up to four cabl es to the printer. They all connect to the connecto r panel on t he back of the p rinter, whi ch is shown below: Note: There is a caution label above the drawer kick-out connector.

1-6 Setting Up the Printer WARNING: Make sure you use the EPSON PS-170 po wer supply or equivalent. Using an inc orrect power supply may cause fi re or electri cal shock. CAUTION: When connect ing or disconnect ing the power supply from the print er, make sure the power supply is not pl ugged into an electri cal outlet.
Setting Up the Prin ter 1-7 Installing or Replacing the Paper Roll Note: Be sure to use paper rolls that meet the specifications. Do not use paper rolls that have the paper glued to the core, because the printer cannot detect the paper end correctly. 1.

Setting Up the Printer 1-11 2. While holding d own the FEED button, tu rn on the printe r using the sw itch on the front of the pri nter to begin the sel f test . The self te st pri nts the printer settin gs and then pr ints th e following, cut s the paper, a nd pauses.
1-12 Setting Up the Printer Adjust ments an d Sett ings TM-T88II Series prin ters are set up at the facto ry to be appr opriate for almost all users. There are, however, some settings for users with speci al requirements .
Using the Printer 2-1 Chapt er 2 Using the Printer Operating t he Control Pa nel You can con trol the b asic paper feeding opera tions of th e printer with the b utton on th e control pa nel. The i ndicator lights help you monito r the print er’s s tatus.
2-2 Using the Prin ter Panel lights POWER The POWER light is on whenever the print er is on. ERROR This indica tes an error. See Ch apter 3 for inf ormation on what to do when this li ght comes on. PAPER OUT This lig ht indica tes the near end of th e paper rol l.

General problems The lights on t he control pane l do not come on . Make sure th e powe r supp ly cab les are corr ectly p lugge d into the printer , the powe r unit, and into t he power o utlet.
3-2 Troubleshooting If there is no paper jam and the p rinter has been pr inting for qui te a while, the print head may be overh eated. If the print head is overheate d, the printer will res ume printi ng when the head has cooled (usua lly within t wo or three min utes).
Troubleshooti ng 3-3 Cleaning the print head CAUTION: After pr inti ng, the pr int head c an be ver y hot. B e careful not to to uch it. Also let it c ool be fore y ou cle an it. Do not damage th e print hea d by touching it w ith your fingers or any hard objec t.
3-4 Troubleshooting To clear a paper ja m, foll ow the steps be low: 1. Turn the p rinter off and press the cover o pen button to open the co ver. 2. Remove the jammed pap er, put th e roll ba ck in the print er, an d close the cover .
Troubleshooti ng 3-5 4. Then turn the knob until you see in the opening, as shown in the il lustra tion below. This re turns the cu tter b lade to t he normal po sition. Also notice that there is a label near the cutter to assist you. 5. Close the cut ter cover.
3-6 Troubleshooting If the auto cutter does not return to i ts normal posit ion by it self, follow the steps below to cor rect the pr oblem: 1. Pull the cutter cover towar d you so that you can rotate the cutter m otor knob . 2. Fo llow ing the instru ctio ns on the label , rotate the kn ob unt il the appears in the hole.
