7 Copying Y ou can use your Epson Stylus ® Photo RX620 to copy materials such as newspape r c lippings, scrapb ooking elements, and 4 × 6 photos, without using a computer . M ake beautiful col or copies of your existing photos—or use the included film holder to make photo reprints directly from 35-mm slides and negatives.

N ever l oad more sheets than can fit under the arrow mark on the edge guide. Note: If you’re using special Epson paper , follow any instructions that came with it.

Y ou can copy black-and-white materials su ch as books, forms, and newspaper clippings—or materials with colorful graphic designs such as magazine articles , school projects, and scrapbooking elements.

14 Copying * Borderless copying is available only when you’re using Epson paper in the sizes listed. If you notice reduced print quality at the bottom of your print, try using a layout with borders.

16 Copying Placing 35-mm Slides in the Holder 1. F it the holder’ s tabs into the two small holes at the rear edge of the glass. Make sure the cutouts for 35-mm slides ar e in the middle of the glass (not at the rear edge) to align them with the fluore sc ent lam p when you close the lid.

23 Making Prints From Your Digital Camera Y ou can print photos from your digital camera by inserting its memor y card in your RX620 (see page 24). Or if y ou have a PictBridge ® - or USB D irect Print- enabled camera, you can connect it to th e RX62 0 with a USB cabl e (see page 34).

Custom Printing You r Photos 31 Using DPOF to Select Your Photos If your camera supports DPOF (Digital Print O rder F ormat), you can use it to select your photos for printing and the number of copies you ’ d like to print while the card is still in y our camera.
32 Making Prints From Your Digital Camera Printing From an Index Sheet An index sheet gives you a thum bnail printout of the photos on your m emor y ca rd and lets you se l ect whi ch ones you want to print. Y ou can use the index sheet to make borderless prints on 4 × 6-inch, 8 × 10-inch, and letter-size paper .

Note: T o cancel printing, press the y Stop button. If there are a lot of photos on your card, allow time for them to be processed before printing begins.

Close the scanner lid. 6. On the control panel, make sure Scan Inde x Sheet is highlighted, then pr ess the x Color button.
Connecting Your Camera Directly 35 1. Remo ve any memor y cards from the RX 620. (If you leave a card in the RX620, photos will be read fr om that card instead of your camera ’ s card.) 2. Connect the USB cable that came with your camera to the EXT.
36 Making Prints From Your Digital Camera Cropping a Photo If you have a photo with a subject in it you want to emphasize, you can cr op out the rest of the photo. Then you can print just the main subjec t by itself. Note: Y ou can crop and print only one photo at a time.

39 Scanning to a Memory Card Y ou can use your E pson Stylus P h oto RX620 as a stand-alone scanner to save scans of photos, film, and slides to your memor y card. Y ou can also scan to your computer instead of a memor y card (see the instructions in your on-screen Ref eren ce Gui d e ).
40 Scanning to a Memory Card 3. Make sure the memory card light (next to the card slots) is off and all the slots are empty . Then insert your card as shown: The memory card light flashes, then turns green. Note: If the card is not properly formatted, you see a message on the RX620 screen.

A checkmark in the box beside your photo indicates that it will be saved. 7. When done selecting photos, press OK . 8. Choose Fine (for good quality) or Photo (for best quality) as the Q uality option.

50 Saving and Storing Photos Copying Photos to a USB Drive Y ou can copy photos from your camera ’ s memory card to a USB storage device for safe keeping. This lets you delete the ph otos on your memory card and reuse it without losing your originals.

52 Saving and Storing Photos Removing a Memory Card Once you ’ re finished copying photos fr om your memor y card, follo w the steps bel ow to p repa re you r com put er b efo re rem oving it. Be sure to re move any ca rds before unplugging the USB cable from your RX620.
53 Maintaining Your RX620 If you notice a decline in print quality , follow the instructions in this chapter to check and clean the print head. Y ou ’ll also find instructions on checki ng ink levels, replacing ink cartridges, and aligning the print head.
54 Maintaining Your RX620 When your ink starts getting low , make sure you have replacement cartridges available. Y ou can ’ t print if a cartridge is empty . Purchasing Ink Cartridges U se these Epson ink cartridges within six months of installing them and before the expiration date: Note: A color ink multipack is also available (T048920).
Replacing Ink Cartridges 55 Removing and Installing Ink Cartridges Be sure you have a new ink cartridge before you begin. O nce y ou start r eplacing a cartridge, you must complete all the steps in one session. 1. If an ink cartridge is empty: Look at the message the RX620 screen to find out which cartridge is empty , then press the OK button.
56 Maintaining Your RX620 4. Remo ve the cartridge you need to replace. Pr ess in the tab in back of the cartridge to release it, then lift the cartridge straight out. Dispose of it carefully . Note: The illustration above show s the black cartridge being re moved.
Replacing Ink Cartridges 57 7. Close the ink cartrid ge holder , then close the scann er section. Caution: If you find it difficult to close the cove r , make sure all the cartridges are firmly seated. Press down on each newly installe d cartridge until you hear it click into place.
58 Maintaining Your RX620 Checking and Cleaning and Print Head If your printou ts are unexpectedly light, colors ar e missing, or you see light or dark lines across the page, you may need to cle an the print head. This clears the print head nozzles, which can become clogged if you don ’ t use the printer for a long time.
Aligning t he Print Head 59 Cleaning the Print Head F ollo w these steps to clean the print head so it can deliver ink properly . Print head cleaning uses ink, so clean it only if quality declines. Note: Y ou can also clean the print head us ing the printer so ftware.
60 Maintaining Your RX620 5. Examine the printout. For each row (#1 through #4), circle the ver tical lines that are most precisely printed on top of each other . Y ou may need to use a magnifying glass or loupe. . 6. On the RX620 screen, enter the number fo r the circled line in the first row by pressing the l and r buttons.
61 Solving Problems If you have a pr oblem with your Stylus Photo RX620, check the messages on the RX620 screen, run a nozzle check (s ee page 58), or see “Problems and S ol utions ” below .
62 Solving Problems The Stylus Photo RX620 makes noise after ink cartridge installation. ■ When you install ink cartridges, the St ylus Photo RX620 must charge its ink delivery system. W ait until it’ s finished (the Charging message disappears from the RX620 screen), then turn it off.
Problems and Solutions 63 Printing and Copying Problems The Stylus Photo RX620 is on, but nothing prints. ■ Make sure the USB cable is secur ely co nnec ted at both ends. ■ If you’ re us ing a US B hu b, tr y conn ect ing the Stylus Pho to RX 620 dire ctl y to your computer ’ s USB port instead.
64 Solving Problems The margins are incorrect. ■ Make sure the paper size settings ar e correct for the paper you ’ ve loaded. ■ Choose the correct margins for your paper size. ■ Make sure your paper is positioned on the right side of the sheet feeder with the left edge guide lightly against the paper .
Problems and Solutions 65 ■ If you see your S tylus Photo RX620 in the Windows Control P anel, but you can ’ t scan, uninstall and reinstall its software. See the on-scr een Re fe renc e Gui d e to uninstall the software, then follow the in stallation instructions on the St a r t H e re sheet.
66 Solving Problems ■ If paper jams, turn off your Stylus Phot o RX620, lift open the scanner section, and remov e any paper that’ s inside, incl uding any small pieces that may have torn off. Car efully reload paper , turn the RX620 back on, and press the x Color button.
Problems and Solutions 67 ■ The ink car tridges may need replacing; see pa ge 53. ■ Align the print head; see page 59 for instru ctions . Your printout is blurry or smeared. ■ Make sure your paper isn ’ t damp, curled , or loaded face do wn (the printable side should be face up).
68 Solving Problems Your printout is grainy. ■ U se a higher quality paper or select a hi gher Quality T ype or Print Quality in your printer software. I f y ou ’ re copying without a computer , use the control panel buttons to select Best Photo as the quality setting.

70 Solving Problems Your image is too dark. ■ T r y adjusting the brightness with your application software. Also check the brightness and contrast values of your monitor . ■ The dark frame around negative film is perceived as white, al tering the exposure of the scan and causing it to appear darker .
Problems and Solutions 71 The file size is too big. Adjust your scan settings. T r y selecting a lower resolution (dpi), saving the file in a different format, or scanning only part of the image. T ypically , 300 dpi is adequate for images that will be printed.
