4 Finding a Place for the Copy Station Finding a Place for the Co py Statio n Before as sembling the co py station , find a place th at meets the follo wing req uire ments . ❏ Leave adequate roo m for easy op eration, mai ntenance, and ventilati on.

6 Checking the Copy Station Components The copy stat ion accessories box contains t he items listed below. Confirm that no ne of these items is missing or d amaged.
Setting Up the Cabinet 7 Setting Up the Cab inet Mak e sur e th e cab inet b ox cont ain s all o f the part s lis ted b elo w. Then follow the steps in this section to assemble the cabinet and to in stal l the con tro l pane l.
8 Setting Up the Cabi net Assembling the Cabinet c Caution: The cabinet is bulky and requires two people for assembly or hand ling . 1. Place flat washers and spring washers onto four M8 × 35 bolts as shown below. Al ign the posi tioning marks on the right support an d the right fra me, then fasten t he support to t he frame with the bolts.
Setting Up the Cabinet 9 3. Use M4 × 10 screws to fas ten joint A and the front panel to the frame in the orde r shown below. Fasten the jo int only loosel y in this step. It is to be f astened securely later in t he assemb ly procedure. 4. Fasten the cast er fixer and t he stoppers to the bottom of the frame with four M4 × 10 screws.
10 Setting Up the Cabi net 5. Fasten the t op panel ont o the frame with seven M4 × 10 screws. 6. Fasten j oint B to the frame with ei ght M4 × 10 scr ews. Setting Up the Cabinet 11 7. Attach cable clip s to the cabinet as needed. Holes are provi ded for this pur pose in various posi tions around the cabinet. w Warni ng: Do not climb onto the cabinet. Doing so may result in injury, or may damage the cabin et.
12 Setting Up the Cabi net 1. Plug the shiel ded control panel cab le into the control pane l’s interfa ce connector, l ocated on the b ottom of the cont rol panel. Note: As the interface connector head is covered, discon nect the cable by pressing the spring on the side of the control panel.

Note: If you do not plan to attach the c ontrol panel to the cabi net, attach the panel cover included in the cabinet box to the opening on the cabinet’ s top panel.
14 Setting Up the Scanne r Setting U p the Sc anner To prepare the sc anner for use with the copy stat ion, you need to instal l the scann er inte rface boar d and p lace the scanner onto the cabinet , as exp lained below. 1. Unpack and set up the scanner as explaine d in the scanner’s Setup Guide .
Settin g Up the Sca nner 15 c Caution: Static electricity can damage electronic compon ents. Discharge static electricity by touching the metal frame of your scanner before handling the interface board. 4. Insert the i nterface boar d along the sid e guide ra ils into th e expansion slot in the optional interface sl ot.

Unpack th e printer a s explained i n the print er’s Unpa ckin g Sheet, then foll ow the inst ructions in t he printe r’s Setup Guide to carry ou t the follo wing proced ures. ❏ Instal ling the face-up t ray ❏ Install ing the to ner cart ridges ❏ Ins tal ling th e p hoto con duct or u nit 2.
18 Setting Up the P rinter 4. Open the printer co ver and pu ll out the paper p ath unit a t least 10 cm (4 inches). 5. R emov e the scre ws o n the righ t cove r.
Setting Up th e Printer 19 6. Slide the right co ver back ward and remove it as shown b elow. 7. Identify t he socket for th e printer int erface board. c Caution: You should not remove any modu les from the circuit board. Otherwise, the printer will not work.
20 Setting Up the P rinter 8. Insert the interf ace connector s through th e slot a t the back of the print er, then press the i nterface boar d firmly onto the socket. c Caution: Do not touch the surface of the printer interface board. Be sure to hold it at the edges.
Setting Up th e Printer 21 10. Secure the pri nter inter face board wi th the two scr ews which you remo ved from t he sh ield plat e in step 3. 11. Identify the slots for the ROM module.
22 Setting Up the P rinter 12. Insert the module all t he way in to slot A as shown below. 13. Make sure the ta b on the l eft of the slot shown below wil l stick out when the mod ule is inserted corr ectly. c Caution: ❏ Do not force the ROM module into the slot.

To reattach the rig ht cover, align the bo ttom of the cover with the right side of the printer, the n fit the pins on the top of the cover onto t he holes on the printer. 15. Secure the ri ght cover with the screws, then cl ose the front cover an d push the pa per pat h unit back into the p rinter.
24 Setting Up the P rinter 17. Roll the l arge capa city pape r unit o r 500-sheet paper cassette unit and the pr int er in to the cabin et . 18. Lock all caster s on the b ottom of the larg e capacity paper un it or 500-shee t paper cassette u nit. w War ning : Make sure the casters are securely locked.
Setting Up the Copy Stati on 25 Sett ing Up the Co py Statio n Once you have added each device to the cab inet, you are read y to set up the copy station. This process involves connecting the interface cab les and power cor ds. Follow the steps i n this sectio n.
26 Setting Up the Copy Stati on 2. Plug th e control panel cabl e into the prin ter’s seri al interf ace connector. Make sure th e locks on both sides of the connector snap into place. 3. Plug the scanner cab le into the scanner’ s interface connector .

28 Setting Up the Copy Stati on c Caution: ❏ Do not unplug a device when its power is on. ❏ When unplugging a power cord, grasp it by the plug—not the cord. Plugging in the printer 1. Check the lab el on the pr inter to mak e sure that t he voltage required by the pri nter matches that of t he electri cal outle t it will be plug ged in to.

Check the labe l on the back of t he scanner to make sure that the volt age required by the scanner mat ches that of the electrical outlet it wi ll be plugged into. Al so, make sure that you have t he co rrec t po wer c ord for yo ur po we r sou rce.
30 Testing the Copy Station Test ing the Copy Sta tion You can check the operat ion of the copy station by making a few test copies. You will need to prepare a d ocument to copy and a s t a c k o f p a p e r t h a t i s t h e s a m e s i z e a s y o u r d o c u m e n t , t h e n f o l l o w the steps in t his section t o make your cop ies.

32 Testing the Copy Station 4. Fan a stack of plain pape r and insert it i nto the cassette. Make sure that all the pap er is under t he retaining clip on the r ight side of the ca ssette. Note: Use papers with no creases or wrinkles. 5. Slide the paper guides un til they j ust touch th e edges of the paper.

34 Testing the Copy Station Copying Once yo u have lo aded pap er and t urned on t he copy s tation, you are ready to make test co pies. Follow the se steps. 1. Make sure the scanner ’s READY light is on. 2. O pe n t he d ocu men t co v er. 3. Place your document on the document tab le, with the side to be scanned facing down.
Testing the Copy Station 35 Note: An area 2 ± 1.5 mm in from both horizontal and vertical rulers will not be scan ned. 4. Close the document cover gently so that the document does not move. Note: Make sure the document is flat against the glass surface, otherwise the image will appear fuzzy and out of focus.
36 Testing the Copy Station 6. Select the p aper size and ori entation t hat matches the siz e of the d ocum ent and the di rec tion in wh ich it is p lace d on the docum ent tab le. 7. Press the x start b utton on the c opy statio n’s control panel.
