For prop er operation, the settings of the Ethernet Adapter always match the settings of the device to which it is con nected via the RS-23 2 port.

General Serial Confi gur ation 5-3 UART Settings UART Sett ings UART (Universal Asynchron ous Receiver/Transmitter) is the fundame ntal hardware for serial communication. It co ntrols the speed and method of data transfer of the serial port. To configure the UART se ttin gs, perform the following step s: 1) Clickin g on the Serial tab.

General Serial Confi gur ation 5-5 Flow Control Flow C ontrol Flow cont rol is the p rocess of adjustin g the flow of data f rom one device to anot her to ensure that the receiving device can handle all of the incoming data.

Return to Main M en u Goes back to the pr evious menu selections. System Brings up the editor screen wit h the configuration file for o ptions that are not communication d ependent.

Each section con tains at the top a section hea d er which is a string of text surrounded by square brackets: [ ] (the section title).
Using the Terminal Con figurator A-8 [bridge] Bridge provides variabl es that are common to all radios. Br idge affects th e behavior of radios . AP refresh period . Periodically an Ethernet Adap ter pings an Access Point. The AP Refresh Period is the time, in units of seconds, between pings.

Proper setting of th es e values can significantly enhance the efficiency of data transmission because the radio is “packet based” an d the UART is “stream based.

Thi s setting determ ines the time period for retransmission attempts.

C-3 Serial Lin e Repla cement • Destination Add ress . This ad dress tells the Ethernet Adapter where to send data received on the s erial port. You may enter the RMP address of another Ethernet Adapter for direct ser i al line replacement. Other poss ible values are “dynamic” or “broadcast”.
Serial Li ne Replac ement C-4 TCP Pipe TCP Pipe, like R MP Pipe, makes no chan ges to the serial data stream. TCP Pipe differs from RMP Pipe in t hat it creates two indepen dent network connectio ns for transmitted and received data.
