- 3 - Setting Up a Bluetooth GPS Receiver: The first time that you use CoPilot, you will need to turn on Bluetooth on y our device. From the Start screen on your de vice , tap the Bluetooth button in the bottom right corner and turn on Bluetooth. Then: 1.

- 5 - Installing CoPilot NO TE: After the CoPilot Pock et PC installation, your Pock et PC will automatically be soft reset. It is recommended that y ou exit any open applications and sa ve an y open files befor e star ting the Copilot installation. Installing From a Quickstart Installation Memory Card: 1.

- 8 - Data Do wnload Step 2: Choose a Data Selection Method After you specify a location wher e the data will be stored, you will be pr ompted to select a region on the ma p to download. CoPilot allows you to do wnload data using one of the three methods described belo w .
- 9 - Data Do wnload Step 3: Select Y our Data Use any of the thr ee methods cover ed on the following pages ( City Radius , Map Ar ea , or T rip ) to select one or more r egions and then download your data.
- 10 - Map Ar ea Note: CoPilot’ s a vailable memor y calculations subtract a certain amount from the a vail- able memor y on y our storage card (if y ou are using one) to account for support files. 4. - 13 - Impor ting Custom Places CoPilot’ s Custom Place Impor t Wizard enables y ou to impor t addr esses from your Outlook Contacts database, an Excel file , or text file . (If you ar e using another type of database or contact manager , you can export your contacts/ locations to an Excel or text file befor e impor ting them into CoPilot.
- 14 - Editing Custom Places in the Database After custom places ha ve been added to the database, they can be edited at an y time. Select Manage Custom Places fr om the T ools menu, then highlight the custom place you wish to edit, click Edit , and make y our changes.
- 15 - Addr ess Entr y NO TE: There is no need to enter a starting point. CoPilot uses GPS positioning to determine your location automaticall y . Addr ess entr y is a step-by-step process in which y ou enter the state or ZIP code , city , and house number/str eet name in separate screens.

After entering one or more destinations, start driving and enjoy CoPilot’ s spok en instructions, continuously updated maps and ET A’ s, and automatic route recalculation ca pabilities. A text-only Driv er Safety Screen will replace the Ma p Screen when your speed exceeds 10 m.

- 18 - Contact Integr ation CoPilot allows y ou to link directly to Outlook to retrie ve addr ess information. With just a few of quick ta ps of the stylus, you can enter a contact’ s home and/or work ad dress as your destination. 1. T ap the Contact button in the Select Stop screen.
- 19 - Finding Points of Inter est Map Pr evie w of a POI: T o previe w a POI on the map before y ou decide to enter it as a destination, highlight it on the match list and tap Map . In the map scr een, a sliding bar lets you zoom the vie w in and out.
- 20 - Intersection T o enter the intersection of two roads, tap the Intersection button in the Select Stop screen. Intersections are enter ed just lik e addresses (see p . 15-16), except that instead of a house number y ou enter a “First Street” and “Second Street”.
- 21 - Sa v ed T rip Nearb y Places Sear ch Closing CoPilot T o exit the CoPilot application on your P ocket PC, select Menu > Quit . Latitude/Longitude Ta p Mor e ... then tap Sav ed T rip in the Select Stop screen to enter a trip that was built on your desktop and transferr ed to your P ocket PC.

- 23 - Map Modes CoPilot gives y ou a choice of several diff erent displa y modes for the Map Screen: 3D P erspective CoPilot’ s two-dimensional default displa y mode can be changed to a three-dimensional perspective based off an isometric camera angle.
- 24 - T rip Editing and W a ypoints T o get to the Going T o screen fr om the guidance screens at any time, tap Menu > T rip > Edit . From her e you can edit the curr ent trip, add additional stops, or start a new trip.
- 25 - Detour F eatur e CoPilot’ s Detour Feature allo ws you to pre view an alternate route bef ore deciding whether or not to tak e it. Perfect f or situations in which traffic has suddenly slo wed ahead of you, the Detour Featur e will generate an alternate route and tell y ou exactly how much distance the ne w route will add to y our trip.

- 29 - If CoPilot is ha ving trouble acquiring a GPS fix, tr y tapping Reset GPS . Y ou will be asked to enter a city within 100 miles of your cur rent location: 1. T ap Next . 2. T ype a state abbre viation. 3. T ap Next again. 4. In the next screen, enter a city or ZIP code.

- 31 - Select Stop Screen No GPS Signal When you see this scr een it means that CoPilot is not receiving data fr om the GPS unit. 1) Check that all your connections ha ve been made corr ectly , and that all wires are secure. 2) Mak e sure your r eceiver is plugged into your v ehicle's power sour ce .
- 32 - Map Scr een Itinerar y Screen The Itinerar y pr ovides turn-by-turn driving directions. In this screen y ou can highlight a road to a void and CoPilot will generate a detour ar ound that road (see Avoiding Roads , p . 25). T rip Buttons Distance between turns .
- 33 - T rip Planning on Y our Pock et PC Y ou can use CoPilot on y our Pock et PC for trip planning whether or not the GPS receiv er is connected and receiving data. Planning Mode allows you to run a trip on your P ocket PC e ven when you'r e not in your car .
- 34 - T rip Planning on Y our Desktop Y ou can use CoPilot's desktop functions to ma p out routes and print maps and driving dir ections before getting on the r oad. Desktop trip planning is an additional featur e of CoPilot that is in no way connected to using y our Pock et PC for r oute guidance .
- 35 - Print button or Print... in the File menu. T ak es you to the standard Windo ws Print options for printing the activ e window that con- tains your ma p or driving directions. Activate the map or dir ections by clicking on it or selecting it in the Windo w menu.
- 36 - Zoom In button or Zoom In in the Map menu. Each time you click this button, your view will be zoomed in by one increment. The zoom lev el is shown in the title bar of the map window . Zoom Out button or Zoom Out in the Map menu. Each time you click this button, your view will be zoomed out by one increment.
- 37 - Zoom to Region button or Zoom Region in the Map menu. This function allows y ou to zoom your ma p view to a specific area. Choices in the sub-menu will depend on which CoPilot data region(s) wer e purchased. Refresh Ma p button or Refresh Map in the Map menu.
- 38 - Select Landmark Repor ting from the drop-do wn Tr i p menu. Use the drop-do wn Help menu to access CoPilot Help for assistance with all aspects of the software and to quickl y access ALK’ s web site.
- 39 - T rip Planner Window (Contacts) Driving Directions and Ma p (Split Screen) Enter a person’ s first or last name and hit <Enter>. CoPilot will search y our Contacts database for matches.
- 40 - Routing Options T rip Summar y Click the Options button in the T rip Planner window to access CoPilot routing options. Auto and Quick est is the default setting, and provides the quick est routing for automobiles based on practical considerations such as road quality , terrain, and urban/ rural classifications.
- 41 - CoPilot Liv e Communications CoPilot Live allo ws you to maintain two-wa y communication with driv ers who are using CoPilot and to actually see wher e they are curr ently located.
- 42 - Real-T ime T r affi c Informa tion In addition to pr oviding users with pre-trip planning and GPS r oute guidance capabilities, CoPilot uses wireless communications to automaticall y send real-time information to driv ers, notifying them of traffic incidents (accidents, traffic jams, etc .
