Page 12 Page 13 Power Button This turns the main power to the MPS -1 on or o . It is a main power button, but it is not re quired to turn this on and o ea ch tim e the MPS- 1 is used .
Page 12 Page 13 Unbalanced RCA Inputs The MPS-1 has one unbalanced RCA input available for each amplier channel mod- ule . Co nnect th is to th e corr esp ondi ng RCA jack on your preamplier to pro vide signal to the amplier channel . See page 21 f or a connection diagram.
Page 14 Page 15 T urn On Selector Switch This switch allows you to select how the amplier will turn on and o . In the ON (Up) position, the switch on the front of the amplier is the method you will use to power up and power down the amplier .
Page 14 Page 15 Installation and Connections Obser ve the f ollowing precautions when choosing a location for y our Emotiva MPS-1: 1) Protect it fr om prolonged exposure to direct sunlight and other dir ec t sources of heat, such as heating vents and r adiators.
Page 16 Page 17 Orienting the Module to the MPS-1 Chassis Upon removing the EPM-300 power module fr om the pack aging, you must orient which is the “top ” and “bottom ” as well as which is the “fr ont ” and “ back ” . The top has a single nylon rail while the bot- tom has t wo nylon rails .
Page 16 Page 17 Inserting the EPM-300 Module CA UTION: Mak e sure the MP S-1 chassis is NO T CONNECTED to lin e voltage during the installation of the power modules! F or proper installation of the power module, the nylon rail guides must be aligned with the metal rails channels inside the MPS-1.

Page 18 Page 19 AC Power Considerations Ensure that the unit is plugged into an outlet capable of supplying the c orrec t v oltage and current specied for your model. R emember to account for the elec trical power that other components will require if they share a common wall socket or electrical cir cuit.
Page 20 Page 21 It is important to observe polarity so that the speaker wire connects to the red and black terminals on the amplifer and the corresponding terminals at the speaker . Also make sure that the positive speaker wires do not touch the negative speaker wir es, or an y chassis metal .
Page 20 Page 21 Connection Diagrams Unbalanced Connections If your preamplier has RCA outputs, it can be connected to the amplier inputs as shown. The amplier will boost the preamplier’ s output, up t o a level suitable for driving speakers.
Page 22 Page 23 Balanced Connections If your preamplier has balanced XLR outputs , it can be connected to the amplier inputs as shown. The amplier will boost the preamplier ’ s output, up to a level suitable for driving speakers.
Page 22 Page 23 12V T rigger Connections The 12 VDC trigger c onnec tion shown can be used t o turn the amplier on when the preamplier turns on. This trigger will ac tually trigger with an y switched DC V olta ge from 5-2 4 VD C, howe ver the majo rity of h ome theater components use a standard 12 VDC trigger connection for this function.
Page 24 Page 25 Series and Parallel Speaker Connections Whenever c onnec ting more than one speaker per channel to an amplier (regardless of the br and), you must consider the way in which the amplier will be impac ted by adding the additional speaker(s).
Page 24 Page 25 Parallel A parallel circuit is established when voice coils are connected in a way that there are multiple paths for audio signals to ow “in ” and multiple paths for audio sig nals to ow “ out ” .

Page 26 Page 27 The Front Speakers Y ou should closely follo w the placemen t recommendations of your speaker manufac turer , with the addition of the fol- lowing points: • The left and right front speakers should be positioned so that your T V is exactly centered between them.
Page 28 Page 29 Side-Axis Speakers Some preamplier processors featur e side -axis channels which are matrixed and derived from the lef t and right front channels, so they are available in stereo as well as surround modes. I f available as a fea ture, the processor should have a set-up menu to tur n the SIDE-AXIS channels ON or OFF .
Page 28 Page 29 Surround Back Speakers Many preamplier processors feature additional outputs f or surround back speakers. T hese create a wonderful sense of r ealism in surr ound eects during pla yback of Dolby Digital EX, Dolb y P ro L ogic IIx, and DT S ES.

Most problems that occur can usually be solved by check ing your setup or mak ing sure that the audio and video components connected to the amplier ar e on and fully operational.

Page 32 Page 33 • Check that the interconnect cables to the amplier do not have any broken connections. The best way to do this is to substitute a known good connection for the suspect connection. If you rev erse the cables and the problem goes away , the cable may be damaged or broken.
