4 SECTION 1.0 - INST A LL A TIO N When installed and operated as described in these instructions , the E.P.A Rocket wood stove is suitable f or use as a freestandin g wood stove in residential insta llations. T he E.P.A Rocket w ood stove is not intended for ins tallatio n in a bedroom or a mobil e home.
5 1.2 POSITIONING THE STOVE It is very important to posi tion the wood stove in an area that wi ll favour the most effici ent heat distribution throu ghout the house. T he stov e should there fore be installed in t he room where the most time is spent, and in t he most spacious room possible.

7 Floor protector If the stove is to be install ed on top o f a combustibl e floor, it must be guarded by a non combustible ma terial as sho wn on figure 1.
8 TYPE OF PROTECTION Reducing Clearances With Shielding Sides and Rear/Back Top Sheet metal, a mini mum o f 0,024" (0,61mm) spaced out at least 1" (25mm) by non -combustible spacers (see graphic 2).

12 SECTION 2.0 CHIMNEY (FLUE SYSTEM) 2.1 DEFINITION S For clarity, the following de finitions should be used w ith respect to these in structions: A chimney system consists of a connec tor off t he top of t he stove, and a chimney , whi ch attaches to the connector and te rminates ou tside the house.
13 If you are using a masonry chimney, it is important that it be built in compliance with t he specifications of the Buil ding Code. It m ust be lined w ith fire clay bricks, or clay tiles, sealed together w ith f ire cement, or hav e a listed solid f uel burning stainl ess st eel liner .

23 2.2.2 Ty pical installation th rough an existing masonry chimney You can also install your stove using your existing masonry chimney. To do so, f ollow the guidelines below. You may want t o use a factory-built thimble, on construct your own brick thimble.

26 2.3 CHIMNEY CO NNECT OR Your chimney connec tor (commonl y called stov e pipe) and chi mney must hav e the same diameter as the stove’s ex haust outlet. The stov e pipe must be made of al uminized or cold roll steel w ith a minimum 24-gauge thickness (0 .
27 FIGURE 2.3 (B) Minimum Slop e The assembly should be as short and direct as possible between the stove and chimney (See f igure 2.4 (A)). The use of tw o 45 deg ree elbows (See f igure 2.4 (C)) is often preferable to a single 90 degree elbow (See figure 2.
28 2.4 DRAF T Your E.P.A Drolet stove’s pe rformance will be optimised if it is installed with a chimney (flue) system th at provides an ade quate draft.
29 2.6 THE A DVANTA GE OF INSTALL ING A BLOWER (FA N) A blower can be installed at the back o f your DROLET st ove. T his option is necessary if you wish to redistri bute into a room the heat trapped at the back of your s tove. By forcin g hot air toward t he front, the blower enables you to ex tend the radiation pow er of your stove.
30 SECTION 3.0 OPERA TION Keep these inst ructions for fu ture reference. WARN INGS: ANY MODIFICATION OF THE APPLIANCE THAT HAS N OT BEEN APPROVED IN WR ITING BY THE TESTING AUTHORITY IS CONSIDERED AS BREACHING CSA B 365 ( CANADA ), AND A NSI NFPA 211 (USA).
31 Even though your E.P.A Drolet has been specifically designed and tested to prevent smoke spillage, always open the door slowly as this will minimise the likelihood o f smoke spillage or a back dra ft of flame or smo ke into the roo m.
32 3.2 FUEL Fuel f or t he stove must not be stored closer than the required clearances t o combustibles (heat sensitiv e mater ials). NEVER ST ORE W OOD IN THE ASH PAN COMP ARTMENT. Your E.P.A Drolet st ove is designed t o burn WOOD ONLY . Do not burn coal, charcoal, o r trash in the unit.
33 3.2.1 The use of manufactured logs There are numerous types of m anufac tured logs sold on the market. Yo u must be very careful w ith t his ty pe of product . Many brands of manufactured logs contain chemical additives. DO NOT BURN ANY MANUFACTURED LOGS CONTAIN ING CHEMICA L ADDITIVES.
34 3.4 LIGHTING A FIRE Place enough crumpled balls of newspaper o r other paper into the stove to cover th e bottom o f the firebox. Place small and d ry kindling on the crumpled pap er. Place larger and dry kindl ing on top of the small kindling. Open the air inta ke control fully.
35 3.5 MA INTAINING THE FIR E Once the w ood has bee n consumed ( or pa rtially consumed ) and y ou hav e obtained a good bed of embers , you should reload the unit. In order to do so, open the ai r control to its maximum for approximately 15 seconds prior to opening the stove door.
36 SECTION 4.0 M A INTEN A NCE 4.1 CLEA NING AND PA INTING YOU R STOVE Clean the stove fre quently so th at soot, ash, and creosote do not accumulate. Special care must be taken with gold plated su rfaces in order to maintain the finish at its original brilliance.
37 4. 4 CHIMNEY (FL UE) CLEA NING Regular chimney (f lue) maintenan ce, as w ell as good burning practices, is required to prevent chimney fires. When wood (especial ly green wood) is burned without adequate heat or air supply, it produces tar and other organic vap ours ( smoke ), which combine with expelled moisture to for m creosote.
