2 R EMOTE C ONTROL B ASICS This remote control gives you easy ac cess to all the features of a DISH Network satellite TV recei ver . Y ou can set up the remot e to control the satellite TV receiver and up to th ree other devices. These devices can be a TV , a VCR or DVD player , and a third device.
3 I NSTALLING B AT TERIES The remote control requires AAA batteries. When you replace old batteries, you should replace all of the batteries. Use batteries of the same kind, for example , alkaline or carbon zinc, and don’ t mix batteries of different kinds.
4 C ONVERTING THE 6.0 R EMOT E C ONTROL By replacing the key at the bottom of the 6.0 remote, this remote can be converted to look and work like a 5.0 IR or to operate like a second UHF Pro remote to control the side of the DISH Player-DVR 522 receiver .
5 S ETTING U P TO C ONTROL THE S ATELLITE R ECEIVER The remote and the re ceiver must be set up on th e same address so t hat the remote c an control the rece iver . When you get the remote, it's already set up to control the receiv er on address 1.
6 1. For DISH Player -DVR 522 r eceivers only : If you are using a 6.0 remote control with the green 1 UHF Pr o key inst alled, perform the steps a. through e. below . If not, then go to step 2. a. Open the TV1 UHF Pro Setup screen by pressing MENU-6-1-6 on the remote control.
7 4. Use the number buttons to enter any number from 1 to 16. The SAT mode button goes out after you enter each digit, and then lights up again. W rite down the number you entered: 5. Press the POUND ( # ) button. If you entered the address correctly , the SAT mode button will flash three times.
8 C HECKING TH E R EMOTE A DDRESS T o read out the remote control addr ess setting: 1. Press and hold the SA T mode button for three seconds until all mode buttons light. Then, let go. 2. Press the POUND ( # ) button twice while watching the SA T mode button.
9 S ETTING U P U SING D EVICE C ODE T ABL ES Y ou can set up the remote to cont rol other devices using the device codes listed on page 29. 1. Use the device’ s buttons or its remote control to turn on the device. 2. Find the brand name of the de vice in the tables starting on page 29.
10 10. If the code you entered doesn’ t work, do step s 3 through 9 again with another device code from the tables. 1 1. If you cannot find a code that works, try Setting Up Using Device Code Scan .
11 7. Press the blank POWER button to turn the device back on. 8. T ry some other buttons to make sure they work. Sometimes, the blank POWER button works when other buttons don’t. C HECKING THE D EVICE C ODES Y ou can find out what device code you’ve set fo r each remote control mode.
12 T o set the remote t o control the device’ s volume : 1. Press and hold the AUX mode button for three seconds, and then let go of it. The AUX mode button will blink. 2. Press the POUND ( # ) button. 3. Press the plus (+) side of the VO L U M E button.
13 7. Press the plus (+) and minus (-) sides of the VOLUME button. The TV’ s volume changes and the TV mode button li ghts instead of the AUX mode button. R EMOTE C ONTROL O PERATION O PERATING M ODES Y ou can set the remote to f our differe nt modes to contr ol the rece iver or other devices.
14 TV/V IDEO B UTTON If you connect the receiver with its back panel TV ANTENNA/CAB LE IN and TV SET OUT ports, use this butt on to switch the receiver between the satelli te signal (connect it to the SATELLITE IN port) and another video signal lik e a cable or broadcast TV antenna input (connect it to the receiver ’ s TV ANTENNA/CABLE IN input).
15 M UTE B UTTON Press this button to tu rn the TV sound on or off. Note : Y ou must set up the remote to control the TV for the MUTE button to work. See Setting Up to Contr ol Other Devices on page 8. M ENU B UTTON Press this button to open the Main Menu .
16 • Show Themes - Press the LEF T arrow button. • Move around within the Program Guid e , menus, and Browse Banner - Press the UP , DOWN , LEFT , and RIGHT arrow buttons. S ELECT B UTTON Press this button to select th e option you highlight in a menu.
17 C ANCEL B UTTON Press this button to cancel and go back to the previous menu or to watch a program. D ISH B UTTON Press the dish button to go to DISH Home Interactive TV for receivers that s upport this feature. N UMBER B UTTONS • Change the channel - Use the NUMBER buttons to enter a channel number to change the channel.
18 S TAR B UTT ON Press the ST A R button to back space while using the search function of your receiver . Note : Y our remote control wi ll either h ave the STA R button or the FORMAT/ST AR button, but not both.
19 P LAY B UTTON Press the PLAY button to play back a recorded event. Also, press this button to switch from pause, fast forw ard, or back to normal play back. S TOP B UTTON Press the ST O P button to stop recording a program or to stop playing a recorded program.
20 S KIP FWD B UTTON Press the SKIP FWD button to: • Skip ahead about 30 seconds in a program. Press this button again to skip ahead again. • Skip ahead one frame at a tim e. T o use the frame advance fe ature, press the PAUSE button and then press the SKIP FWD button.
21 R ECORD B UTTON Press the RECORD button to record a program. Note : Y ou also use this button if you change the remote control address. See Setting Up to Contr ol the Satellite Receiver on page 5. P ICTURE I N P ICTURE (PIP) Press the PIP button to open the PIP window .
22 U SING THE R ECOVER B UTTON Use this procedure only if you ha ve accidentally changed the TV channel or video input. It does not recover lost sa tellite signal. Note : RECOVER will first try to tune your TV to channel 3, then channel 4, and then other video inputs with each p ress of the RECOVER button.
23 C ONTROLLING A TV ( OR A S ECOND TV) Only the buttons described here c ontrol a TV . Some of the buttons described heremay not control your TV . See your TV user ’ s manual for information about the TV’ s features. Y ou can set up the remote to control a second TV in AUX mode, the same way it controls the first TV in TV mode.
24 M UTE B UTTON Press this button to tu rn the TV sound on or off. V OLUME B UTTON Press this button to raise (+) or lower (-) the TV sound volume . U P /D OWN A RR OW B UTTONS Use these buttons to change channels on the TV . Note : These buttons do not change th e channels on the TV if the remote control is in Limited Mod e.

26 TV/V IDEO OR SD/HD I NPUT B UTTON Use this button to switch the VCR between its TV mode and its VCR mode (see your VCR user’ s manual for information). Note : Y our remote control wi ll either h ave the TV/V IDEO button or the SD/HD INPUT button, but not b oth.
27 VCR B UTTONS Press the PLAY button to play a videotape or DVD. Press the ST O P button to stop playing or recording on a videotape. Pr ess the ST O P button to stop playing a DVD. Press the PAUSE button to pause a videotape or DVD. Press this button or the PLAY button to play the tape or DVD.
28 P OWER B UTTON Press the blank POWER butto n to turn the tuner or amplifier on or off. Press the TV POWER button to turn the TV on o r off. M UTE B UTTON Press this button to tu rn on or of f the sound. Note : Program the remot e to contro l the device’ s volume by following the instructions on page 1 1.
29 D EVICE C ODES These tables co ntain the manufac turer codes for programming the remote to control your TV , a VCR, DVD player , or audio amplifier . Every attempt has been made to include all codes. If your device brand is not listed or if the codes do not work, the remote may not control your device.
