2 14 Hardware Installation 2.2 System Memor y The two 184-pin SRIMM sockets on the system board uses RIMM TM modules f or memor y expansion. A RIMM TM module may come with 4, 8, 12, 16 or more devices. A device refe r s to 1 RDRAM chip . In other words, a module with 8 devices means the module has 8 RDRAM (Rambus Dynamic RAM) chips on it.

2 20 Hardware Installation SECC2 or SEPP processor : Push the slide of the URM downward until it clicks into its OPEN position. Lift one end of the processor until it is freed from Slot 1. Lift the other end of the processor until it is freed from Slot 1.

2 Hardware Installation 25 2.7.3 Parallel Port The system board has a standard printer por t (J6 - Bur gundy) located at the AT X doub le deck por ts of the board for interfacing your PC to a parallel pr inter . It suppor ts SPP , ECP and EPP modes. Y ou can set the por t s mode in the Integrated Periphera ls submenu of the BIOS.
2 26 Hardware Installation 2.7.5 IDE Disk Drive Connector The system board is equipped with tw o shrouded PCI IDE header s that will interface four Enhanced IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) disk driv es. T o prevent improper IDE cable installation, each shrouded PCI IDE header has a k eying mechanism.

2 28 Hardware Installation 2.7.7 IrD A Connector The system board is equipped with an IrD A connector for wireless connectivity betw een your computer and peripher al devices. The IRD A (Infr ared Data Association) specif ication suppor ts data transfer s of 115K baud at a distance of 1 meter .
2 Hardware Installation 29 2.7.8 CPU Fan Connector The processor must be kept cool by using a fan with heatsink. Connect the CPU fan to the 3-pin fan connector at location J3 on the system board. The system is capab le of monitor ing and controlling the speed of the CPU fan.
2 30 Hardware Installation 2.7.10 Second Chassis Fan Connector If you are installing a second chassis fan in the system unit, connect the fan s connector to location J18 on the system board. The system is capable of monitoring the speed of the second chassis fan but does not control its fan speed.

It will allo w the system that is in the Suspend mode or Soft P ower Off mode to wak e-up/ po wer -on to respond to calls coming through the inter nal modem card.

T o use this function, please f ollow the steps belo w . 1 . Connect the chassis sensor cable that is attached on y our system chassis to location J22 on the system board.
2 36 Hardware Installation 2.7.18 RIMM/PCI Standby Power LED RIMM Standby Power LED This LED will turn red when the system s power is on or when it is in the Suspend state (P o wer On Suspend or Suspend to RAM). It will turn green when the system is in the Soft-Off state.

40 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility 3. 1 The Basic Input/Output System The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a program that takes care of the basic level of communication between the processor and peripherals. In addition, the BIOS also contains codes for various advanced features f ound in this system board.
41 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility Date The date format is <day>, <month>, <date>, <year>. Day displays a da y , from Sunday to Saturday . Month displays the month, from Jan uar y to December . Date displays the date, from 1 to 31. Y ear displa ys the y ear , from 1994 to 2079.

Some entries are defaults required by the system board, while others , if enabled, will improve the perfo r mance of your system or let you set some features according to your preference.
45 3 Award BIOS Setup Utility CPU L1 Cache and CPU L2 Cache These categories speed up the memor y access. The default value is enabled. Enable the external cache for better performance. CPU L2 Cache ECC Checking Intel P entium II and P entium III processors come with built-in Lev el 2 cache.

67 4 Supported Softwares 4.1.2 Using the DMI Utility The four menus located on top of the DMI Configuration Utility screen are Edit DMI, Add DMI, Load DMI File and Sa v e DMI File. Use the ← or → (left or right) arrow keys to select a menu from the Menu bar .
