Using Multimedia 37 Using Multimedia Playing Media NOTICE: Do not press down on the optical drive when you open or close it. Keep the tray closed when you are not using the drive. Do not block the drive from opening fully . NOTICE: Do not move the compute r while playing media.
38 Using Multimedia T o r emove the disc from the drive: 1 P ress the eject button on the media button panel in front of the optical drive. The drive will rise and eject the disc. 2 Remove the disc. NOTICE: Do not manually push the drive down. 3 P u sh the eject button to retract the drive.

Using a Battery 55 Using a Battery Replacing the Battery CAUTION: Using an incompatible battery may increase the ri sk of fire or explosion. Replace the battery only with a compatible battery purcha sed from Dell. The battery is des igned to work wi th your Dell™ computer .
56 Using a Battery 3 Insert the battery straight down into the battery compartment with the battery access door in the open position. 4 Slide the battery in the direction of the #1 arrow until it snaps into place.

62 Using a Battery Standby Mode Standby mode conserves power by turning off the display and the hard drive after a pr edetermined period of inactivity (a time-out). When the comp uter exits standby mode, it r eturns to the same operating state it was in before entering standby mode.

Using Cards 83 T o insert a car d: 1 Hold the card with its orientation symbol pointing into the slot and the top side of the car d facing up. The service is fr ee an d can be customized for content, format, and how frequently you r eceive notifications.
88 T roubleshooting b P ress and hold the <Fn> key while powering the computer on. NOTE: If you see a message stating that no diagnostics utility partitio n has been found , run the Dell Diagnostics from the Drivers and Utilities disc.

94 T roubleshooting S CAN THE COMPUTER FOR SPYWARE — If you are e xperiencing slow comp uter performance, you frequently receive pop-up advertisements, or you ar e having problems connect ing to the Internet, your computer might be infected with spyware.
T roubleshooting 95 G ENERAL FAILURE — The operating system is unable to carry out the command. The message is usually followed by specific information—for example, Printer out of paper . T ake the appropriate action. H ARD - DISK DRIVE CONFIGURATION ERROR — The computer cannot identify the drive type.
96 T roubleshooting M EMORY DOUBLE WORD LOGIC FAILURE AT ADDRESS , READ VALUE EXPECTING VALUE — A memory module may be faulty or improperly seated. Reinstall the me mory modules (see "Memory" on page 129) and, if necessary , replace them.

T roubleshooting 105 No sound from integrated speakers A DJUST THE W INDOWS VOLUME CONTROL — Double-click the speak er icon in the lower -right corner of your screen. Ensur e that the volume is turned up an d that the sound is not mu ted. Adjust the volume, bass, or treble controls to eliminate distortion.
