l Access information about your computer, such as how many processors it has and what operating system it is running. l Monitor the status of your computer, such as listening for thermal alerts from temperature probes or hard - drive failure alerts from storage devices.
l Off — No intrusion monitoring occurs and no messages appear. Padlock Ring and Security Cable Slot Use one of the following methods to secure your computer: l Use a padlock alone or a padlock and looped security cable with the padlock ring.
Computer Tracking Software Computer tracking software may enable you to locate your computer if it is lost or stolen. The software is optional and may be purchased when you order your Dell™computer,oryoucancontactyourDellsalesrepresentativeforinformationaboutthissecurityfeature.
5. To confirm your password, type it a second time and press <Enter>. The password setting changes to Set . 6. Exit system setup. Password protection takes effect when you restart the computer. Typing Your System Password When you start or restart your computer, the following prompt appears on the screen.
1. Enter system setup (see Entering System Setup ) and verify that Admin Password is set to Not Set. 2. Highlight Admin Password and press the left - or right - arrow key. The computer prompts you to type and verify the password. If a character is not permitted, the computer emits a beep.

Onboard Devices Integrated NIC ( On default) Enables or disables the integrated NIC controller. Settings are On , Off , On w/RPL , or On w/ PXE . When the On w/ PXE or the On w/RPL setting is active, if a boot routine is not available from the network server, the computer attempts to boot from the next device in the boot sequence list.
NOTE: Switching to performance mode may cause the drive to be noisier, but its performance is not affected. Changing the acoustics setting does not alter your hard - drive image. Security Unlock Setup ( Locked default) When an administrator password is being used, allows the user access to modify system setup settings.
Boot Sequence This feature allows you to change the boot sequence for devices. Option Settings l USB Device — The computer attempts to boot from the USB device. If no operating system is present, the computer generates an error message. l Onboard or USB Floppy Drive — The computer attempts to boot from the floppy drive.
2. Turn on (or restart) your computer. 3. When F2 = Setup, F12 = Boot Menu appears in the upper - right corner of the screen, press <F12>. If you wait too long and the operating system logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Microsoft Windows desktop.

Most interface connectors are keyed for correct insertion; that is, a notch or a missing pin on one connector matches a tab or a filled - in hole on the other connector.
3. Disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the drive. 4. If you are not replacing the optical drive at this time, install the optical - drive insert by lowering it into the drive bay until it clicks into place. Contact Dell if you need a drive - bay insert.

5. Press in on the blue release tabs on each side of the drive and slide the drive up and out of the computer. Installing a Hard Drive 1. Unpack the replacement hard drive, and prepare it for installation. 2. Check the documentation for the drive to verify that it is configured for your computer.
4. Gently spread the sides of the drive bracket and slide the hard drive into the bracket until the drive clicks into place. 5. Carefully slide the hard drive into the drive bay until it clicks into place. 6. Connect the power and data cables to the drive.
11. Enter system setup (see Entering System Setup ), and update the appropriate Primary Drive option ( 0 or 1 ). 12. Exit system setup, and reboot the computer. 13. Partition and logically format your drive before you proceed to the next step.
8. Attach the SATA connector removed in step5 to the first hard drive. 9. Locate an unused SATA connector on the system board and attach a data cable to this connector and to the second hard drive. 10. Replace the computer cover (see Replacing the Computer Cover ).
3. Select the drive - panel insert in front of the drive bay that you want to use. 4. Gently press the release tab of the insert to remove it from the drive panel. 5. Reattach the drive panel to the front of the computer. The drive panel only fits one way.
Floppy Drive and Media Card Reader Removing the Floppy Drive or Media Card Reader 1. Follow the procedures in Before You Begin . 2. Remove the drive panel by sliding the drive release latch downward to open the panel, and then remove it from the hinges.
4. Attach the power and data cables to the floppy drive or Media Card Reader. 5. Replace the computer cover (see Replacing the Computer Cover ). 6. Enter system setup (see Entering System Setup ), and use the Diskette Drive option to enable your new floppy drive.
2. Disconnect the power and data cables from the back of the drive. 3. Grasp the sliding plate lever and slide it towards the top of the computer until the drive panel snaps open; while holding the lever in place, slide the drive out of the computer.
