90 T roubleshooting M EMORY ALLOCATION ERROR — The software you ar e attempting to run is conflicting with the operating system, another program, or a utility . Shut down the computer , wait 30 seconds, and then restart it. T ry to run the program again.

C HECK THE NETWORK CABLE CONNECTOR — Ensure that the network cable is firmly inserted into both the network connector on the side of the co mputer and the network port or device.
T roubleshooting 97 C HECK THE AC ADAPTER — Check the AC adapter cable connections. If the AC adapter has a light, ensure that the light is on. C ONNECT THE COMPUTER DIRECTLY TO AN ELECTRICAL OUTLET — Bypass power protection devices, power strips, and the extension cable to verify that the computer turns on.

100 T roubleshooting C HECK THE BATTERY — If you are using a battery to power yo ur computer , the battery charge may be depleted. Connect the computer to an electrical outlet using the AC adapter , and turn on the computer .
T roubleshooting 101 Drivers What Is a Driver? A driver is a program that controls a device such as a printer , mouse, or keyboard. All devices r equire a driver program. A driver acts like a translator between the device and any other programs that use the device.
102 T roubleshooting Using Windows XP Device Driver Rollback If a problem occurs on your computer after you install or update a driver , use W indows XP Device Driver Rollback to replace the driver with the pr eviously installed version. 1 Click the Start button and click Control P anel .
T roubleshooting 103 7 Click the Install button (if present) to begin installing th e driver or utility . At the welcome screen, follow the screen prompts to complete the installation. If no Install button is present, automatic installation is not an option.
