IMPORTANT NOTE! This system has a n odometer preset option tha t is onl y available for the first 100 miles (160km) of operation.
MAN 650 066:D 2 Thank you fo r purchasing the Vacuum Fluo rescent Digital Dash board from DAKOTA DIGITAL, th e leader in custom autom otive electronics.
MAN 650 066:D 3 WARN ING The vacuum fluo rescent displays a re made of glass and should be handled with ca re. MOUNTING UNIVERSAL DISPLAY SYSTEMS WITH SUBPAN ELS W hen mounting instrumentation systems mounted to an ABS subpanel, begin by removing the subpanel from the a luminum.
MAN 650 066:D 4 MOUNTING KITS INTO ORIGINAL DASHES Some kits will include a separate mou nting instruction sheet so ple ase see that first for system mou nting instructions. S ome systems will attach directly to the bezel, and others will mount bac k into the instrument cans where the factory gauges where mounted.
MAN 650 066:D 5 GAUGE SYS TEM FEATURES Mileage read ings • Million mile o dometer • Two (A/B) re-se ttable trip mileage (0-999 9.9) • Re-settab le service mileage (0-9 999) Performan ce readings • High speed recall. This is reset at power up and can be manually re set.
MAN 650 066:D 6 MESSAGE DI SPLAYS On system s with two message disp lays, Switch 1(SW 1) will toggle between the speed messa ge displays and Switch 2(SW 2) will toggle between the tach message displa ys.
MAN 650 066:D 7 CONTROL BOX MOUNTING Once the disp lay panel is in place, mount the control box within reach of the ribbon c able on the displa y panel (approximately 3 f eet). Pick a mount ing location that will allow you a ccess to wire all of t he inputs on the con trol box.

This termina l should have power when the ke y is on or in accesso ry position. In addition t o powering the display system, this is also where the voltmeter gauge senses the vehicle electrical system voltage.
MAN 650 066:D 10 SPD + This terminal is used to su pply power to Dakota Digital sp eed sensor SEN-01-5 . Th is supplies 5V DC to the sensor and should not be hooked up to anything else.
MAN 650 066:D 11 systems with on e message displa y the speed/performa nce and rpm/warn mess ages will use the same disp lay. To enter DEMO mode, press and ho ld switch 2 while turning th e key on.
MAN 650 066:D 12 WTR – This is the ground reference used for two-wire water temp sensors. This will conne ct to one of the wires from the Dakota Digital SE N-04-5 . The othe r wire will connect to the WTR SND terminal, a nd it doesn’t matter which wire goes in to either location.
MAN 650 066:D 13 FUEL SND The fuel gau ge sending unit is not norm ally supplied be cause the display system ca n use the existing fu el sending unit that is a lready in the tank in ma ny cases. The sendin g units that are compatib le with this system are as follows: GM, Fo rd, VDO, and Ste wart W arner.
MAN 650 066:D 14 GEAR (1 wire ) The GEAR te rminal is used for the gear shift indicator. The in dicator is built into every system, b ut will not light up unless a Dakota Digital GSS-1000/2 000/5000 gear sh ift sending unit is connecte d, telling the system what gear the transmissio n is in.
MAN 650 066:D 15 CHECK ENG (-) The check engine terminal is used with fu el injection ECM’s to display engine problems and troub le codes. The CHECK input is activated by a groun d signal from the ECM. Whenever the check input is grounded, the system will display “ENGINE” o n the messa ge display.
MAN 650 066:D 16 Setting up the control box Below is a list of all of the setup me nus. You must have S W 1 wired to enter s etup; description s of each menu are below. Pay close atte ntion to Setup Menus and settings as incorrec t settings will cause faulty re adings on the dis plays.
MAN 650 066:D 17 SPEEDOMETER SETUP/CALIBRA TION There a re two main methods for ca librating the spee dometer, auto cal and a djust. Auto cal requires th at you have one meas ured mile marked ou t (1 km for metric).
MAN 650 066:D 18 (Auto Cal continued) NOTES: You do not ha ve to drive at a constant speed nor do you have to avoid stopping during Auto Cal. When comple ted, you do no need to s top, you may, but you c an also just press a nd release SW1 as y ou pass the 1 mile mark.
MAN 650 066:D 19 Speed Output ( OUT PUT OUTPUT OUTPUT OUTPUT ) If a speed s ignal is needed for an E CM or cruise control, t he SPD OUT terminal can be used. This terminal can supply a 20 00 ppm or 4000 ppm signal. • W hen “ output output output output ” is displayed, press and hold SW1 until you get “ - ” • Release the switch.
MAN 650 066:D 20 Display update setup ( U PDATE UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE ) The disp lay update rate can be a djusted so the re ading on the tachometer do esn’t change so q uickly. This is a persona l preference and is just used to “slow” the reading by averaging.
MAN 650 066:D 21 WATER TEMP SETUP The water tem p setup allows you sele ct the units the tempera ture is displayed in, Fahrenheit or Celsius. It also allows you to set a high temperat ure w arning poin t that will cau se the display to f lash whenever the rea ding on the display is highe r than the set poin t.
MAN 650 066:D 22 Temp se nsor test ( test test test test ) This menu will allow you to chec k the resistance the cont rol box is reading from the water temp senso r. This can be used f or a diagnostic tool if you are having trouble s or feel that the reading is inco rrect.
MAN 650 066:D 23 Oil pressur e sensor test ( te st test te st test ) This menu will allow you to chec k the voltage the cont rol box is reading from the pressure sensor. This can be used for a d iagnostic tool if you are having trou bles or feel that t he reading is incorrect.
MAN 650 066:D 24 Fuel se nsor setup ( SENDER SENDER SENDER SENDER ) This menu is used to select the fuel level sensor type. The table above shows th e seven options and resistance ranges a s well as the custom optio n.
MAN 650 066:D 25 Exit fuel se tup ( done done done done ) This will allow you to exit the fue l setup and go on to the ne xt setup menu. • W hen “ Se Se Se Se t done done done done ” is displaye.
MAN 650 066:D 26 BUS INTERFACE MODULE SETUP The bus interfa ce modules (BIM) are a future produ ct added to Dakota Digital instrument ation systems. They allow you to add au xiliary gauge functions, such a s fuel pressure, vac/boost, trans temp, etc., right into the system without having to add additional gauges.
