1 Welc ome to the world of Plug an d Play (PnP). I f you are going to in st all your Cre at ive PnP card in a PnP system like Windows 95, you only need to “p lug” the card in to your pers onal c omput er and t he card wi ll “pl ay” s hortly a ft er the system r eboots .
2 Ins ta l ling CT CM & CTC U To i nstall Cr eative PnP Configur at i on Manag er (CTCM) and Cre ative PnP Conf igur a tion Uti lit y (CT CU) in DOS/Windows 3.1 x: 1 . Loa d the in stal lation CD- ROM int o your CD-ROM dr ive . 2. Exit to DOS if you are in Windows 3.
3 After the ins t allat io n, CTCM a nd CTCU wi ll be i nvok ed each t ime you boot you r syst em. CTCM will scan for and confi gure any un configu red Creat ive PnP c ards. CT CU will run in sile nt mode a nd updat e the p aramete rs neede d by your Cre ative and Windows drivers.
4 Using CT CU Crea ti ve PnP Confi gura tio n Util ity (CTCU) allows you to vi ew, fr ee or re -a llocate res ources reser ved for a card. So yo u sho uld run Crea ti ve PnP Confi gura tio n Util ity (CTCU) when one of the f oll owing situat ion s happe ns: ❑ Your PnP cards ’ sett ing s do not work proper l y.
5 The CTCU Interface When you run CT CU in ful l-sc reen mode, you can pul l down the menu to se le ct one of the f oll owing sections : ❑ PnP Ca rds se ction ❑ Lega cy Ca rd s secti on ❑ System Dev ice s section ❑ PCI Devices s ection You c an use you r mous e or keyboard to move a round and s ele ct an ite m or acti on in CTCU.

11 PCI Devices Section You c an use th is s ect ion to vi ew but not cha nge t he re source se tti ngs of the PCI devices in your compute r . When you sele ct the PCI Devices se ct ion from the CTCU menu, the PCI Devic es windo w appe ars.
12 PnP Conc epts When you add a hardware card to you r persona l comput er (PC), you must re serve s ome syste m re sources — s uch as i nput /ou tput a ddre ss spa ces , inte rru pt s , Direct Me mor y Acce ss chan nels or m emory s paces — f or t he c ard.
13 PnP System BIOS The PnP sys tem BI OS is the low est leve l of your P nP sy stem. It s m ain f unct ion s are to prov ide informat ion on the resou r ce sett ings of your syst e m devi ce s an d to conf igur e PnP cards. Some PnP system BIOS c onfigure PnP cards auto matically.
14 PnP Configuration Drivers and Utilities I f yo u d o n ot hav e a PnP op erati ng syst em, you need t o i ns tall a PnP confi gura ti on driv er and util ity t o perfo rm the al loc at ion an d confi gura tion functions of a P nP ope rating sys tem.
15 However , du e to the compa ti bil ity probl em ment ioned earl ier (ple ase refer to the note in the sec ti on “PnP Conc epts on pa ge 12), you may enco unter one of th e foll owin g error mess age or proble ms when you use ICM ve rsion 1.
16 Why Use CTCM and CTCU? The re ar e several reason s why we offer CTCM and CTCU: 1. CTCM prov ides a consis te nt method for co nfigu ring all Crea ti ve PnP card s. It works with or without PnP BIOS or ICM. If your PnP BIOS or ICM has alre ady c onfig ure d your PnP card(s), CTCM will simply retain those setti ngs .
