3 The Clarion VMA 573 and VMA773 monitors are only designed to be viewed by rear-seat occupants. Digital video products are not intended for viewing by the driver while the vehicle is in motion. 7 1. INTRODUCTION The Clarion 5.6-inch VMA573 and 7-inch VMA773 ar e high performance video monitors designed specif ically for the mobile e nvironment. Intended for use with other Clarion multimed ia product s, they can also be integrated with many othe r pro duc t s as par t of a com ple te m obi le v ideo s olut io n.
8 Precautions Do not operate your monitor in ways other than thos e described in this manual. Do not play a multimedia system when the car ’s engine is turned of f. Doing so runs down the car ’s battery . Do not disassemble or modify your monitor .
9 Please note In extremely cold weath er the movement of the picture may sl ow and the picture may darke n. The picture wi ll return to norma l once the temperatur e rises. Y ou may s ee small black or shiny dots in the liquid cryst al pan el.
10 2 . U S I N G T H E M O N I T O R These monitors are compon ents in a full audio/v ideo system that may include a VCR, DVD player , game player , camcorder or other video source unit.

12 Wireless head phones ( optional ) Power OFF/ON turns the headphones power on and of f. Single channel wi reless head phones ( WH143H) are appropriate if only one monitor is inst alled in the p assenger comp artment. If two monitors are used for rear entert ainment systems, dual channel wireless headpho nes (WH253H) are m ost appropriat e.
13 Playing a video or game The monitor is preset at the factory to turn on automatically when you start your car ’s ig nition. The mon itor remains dark until it detect s a video signal. 1. Insert the media ( t ape , cartridge , game or disc ) into the v ideo source .
14 Display mode setting T o choose the proper displaying mode for the dif ferent video pr ogram sources, please refer to display mode setting as below . 1. Press MENU key until goes to DISPLA Y MODE. 2. Press (down key ) or ( up key )to select the displaying mode for : NORMAL, FULL WI DE, WIDE.
15 Adjusting the picture If the temperature is normal an d the picture still doesn’t look right, you may adjust the tint, color , brightness, and co ntrast. 1. Press MENU key to display the picture adjustment menus. The monitor displays the adjustm ent menus.
16 T urning the unit of f and on Press POWER at any time to turn the unit off. When you turn the vehicle’s ignition off , the monitor automatically shuts off. Switching between video sources If your vehicle has two video sources, for example, a DVD play er goes to A V1 and a game console goes to A V2, you can easily switc h between them.
17 Playing two videos or games at once If your vehicle is equipped with tw o LCD monitors in the headr ests and two video source units, t wo diff erent videos or games can play at the same time. Each monitor transmit s the infrared audio si gnal over it s own chann el, A or B.
18 Returning adjustment s to th e factory settings ( Reset ) 1. Press MENU several times to locate the RESET option. 2. Press either down ( ) or up ( ) to reset the settings. If you don’t wi sh to reset the settings, either press MENU again or wait for the monitor to exit the picture adjust ment menus automatical ly .
19 Connecting a video source The video sources you are using may be preinstalle d for you, or your configuration may be designed to allow you to change devices. For example, returning from a day at the beach, you may disconn ect your game from the game port and connect your camcor der to view the video you just shot .
20 3. CARE AND MAINTENANCE Cleaning the cabinet Use a soft , dry cloth gently wipe dust and dirt from the cabinet. Do no t use benzene , thinner , car cleaner , or other cleane rs. These substance s may damage the cabinet or ca use the paint to peel. Cleaning the LCD panel Use a soft , dry cloth to gently wipe of f du st .
21 4. INST ALLA TION AND WIRING Read these instructions and the following precautions carefully . What is included in the box In addition to this manual, the box co nt ains: y Either a 5.6” VMA573 or 7” VMA773 monitor unit with wiri ng harness y One 1.
22 NEVER install this monitor where it is visible from the driver ’ s seat, or where it could injure any vehicle occupant in case of an accident. Ensure th at your installation does not create risk of head-strike injury , and that the monitor will remain securely mounted in the case of an accident or sudden maneuver .
23 Installing the monitor Flush mounting in the headrest Y ou ma y use the included bezel to mount the monitor . 1. Ensure that you will have sufficient clearance for the monitor and its rear-located wiring harn ess. 2. Cut the opening. 3. Route the pigt ail cable end of the wiring harness into t he opening from the rear out the front.
24 Installing the monitor 6. Connect the wiring harness to the monitor , and tuck the excess wiring harness length caref ully out of the way behind t he bezel. 7. Gently insert the monitor into the bezel. Press only on the edges of the monitor , not on the screen.
25 Installing the monitor Removing the monitor from the bezel T o remove the mo nitor from the bezel, in sert the met al insert card between the monitor case an d the side of the bezel to release the spring clips.
26 Wiri ng the monitor Precautions y Disconnect th e negative b attery terminal before making an y wiring connections. y Be particular ly careful where you route wires.
27 Wiri ng the monitor 3. Create pas sage holes for the power an d video cables. When drilling through met al or plastic, use grommets to protect the cables from sharp edges that could penetrate the insulati on and cause a short circuit and d evice failure.

29 5. TROUBLESHOOTI NG The system does not work A fuse may be blown. Replace the external fus e with a fuse of the same amper age . The power wires may not be connected. Check the wiring connections and reset. No picture. Press SOURCE to make sure the proper inpu t is selected.
30 After changing this setting, if there are still black bars, set the Display mode to “ FULL WIDE “ by push MENU key as mentioned before . The screen is dark The brightness is set too low . Press MENU and adjust the BRIGHT option. The interior of the vehicle is too h ot or too cold.
