—9— The CT-S310II line thermal printer series is designed for use with a broad array of terminal equipment including data, POS, and ki tchen terminals.
—1 0— Make sure the following items are included with your prin ter. Model numbers indicate printer features according to the following classification system.
—1 1— Notes: *1: When paper width is 80 or 58 mm. *2: The number of printable columns is selected using a memory switc h. The numbers of co lumns noted in this table re fer to typical models. The number of columns varies depending on specifications.

—1 4— Rear connectors z Interface connector (USB, serial) Connects to the inte rfac e cable (USB, serial). z Cash drawer kick-out connector Connects to the cable from the cash drawer. z AC inlet Connects to the AC powe r cord. z USB cable clamp Fixes the USB cable in place to pr event it from being pulled out.
—1 5— z Platen Feeds the paper. z Manual cutter For cutting the pape r manually. z Auto cutter For cutting the pa per automatically. z Print head (thermal) Prints characters and grap hic data on paper (paper rol ls). z Paper end sensor (PE sensor) Detects when there is no paper.
—1 6— z Buzzer Buzzes when errors occu r or when operations or command operations are performed. z User memory You can save user-defined logo and ch aracter data in this memory. Data remains stored in this memory ev en if the printer is turned off.
—1 7— z Paper saving functions You can set the following functions to save paper by setting the MSW8-3 to 8-5 memory switches. • Delete top margin The printer ba ck feeds when printin g st arts to eliminate the top margin from the paper. Set the amount of back feed.
—1 8— 1. Turn off the power. 2. Connect the AC power cord to the AC inlet, and insert the plug into an electric outlet. 3. SETUP 3.1 Connecting the A C P ow er Cord CA U T I O N Use an AC power source that does not also supply power to equipment that generates electromagne tic noise.
—1 9— 1. Turn off the power. 2. Orient the interface cable correctly an d insert it into the interface connector. Use a serial interface cable with the connection layo ut shown below. 3.2 Connecting In terface Cables CA U T I O N When disconnecting the cable, always hold the connector.
—2 0— 1. Turn off the power. 2. Con firm the orientation of the cash drawer kick-out cable conn ector and connect it to the cash drawer kick-out connector at th e back of the printer. 3. Remove the screw for the ground wire. 4. Screw the cash drawer’s ground wire to the body of the printer.

—2 2— The printer can be used horizontal ly , vertically, or installed on a wall. Vertical installation Use the rubber feet provided when using the printer in a vertical installation. Attach the rubber feet to the four square indentatio ns on the back of the printer.
—2 3— 1. Turn off the power. 2. P ull the cover open lever forward and op en the paper cover. 3. Set the partition provided in a slot that matches the size of the paper roll you are using. However, to use an 80 mm w ide paper roll, remove the partition.
—2 4— The service life of the prin t head was increased by redu cing the pressure that it contacts the paper. Long Life Pri nt (LLP) is enabled b y chan ging the position s of the lever switches inside the paper cover. 1. Turn off the power. 2. P ull the cover open lever forward and op en the paper cover.
—2 5— 1. Turn on the powe r. 2. P ull the cover open lever forward and op en the paper cover. 3. Load the paper roll so that the printable si de of the paper is f acing down, as sh own by arrow A. 4. P ull a few cm of paper straight out in the d irection of arrow B.
—2 6— Attach this cover to prevent th e power switch from being used. 1. P ress the power switch cover on to the po wer switch compartment un til it clicks. Put a screwdriver or other pointed object into the groo ves on the power switch cover to remove it.
—2 7— A dirty print head or platen m ay reduce printing quality or cause malf unctions. We recommend clea ning the printe r period ically (every 2 to 3 months) as shown below. 1. Turn off the power. 2. P ull the cover open lever forward and op en the paper cover.
—2 8— The ERROR LE D flashes and the a uto cutt er blade remains extended because a foreign object or paper jam is obstructing it. If the ERROR LED is flash ing, clear the locked cutter as shown below. 1. Turn on the powe r. 2. P ull the cover open lever forward and op en the paper cover.
—2 9— The paper cover is designed to be open ed if the cutter locks by pressing the cover open lever. If the bl ade of the auto cutter stil l remains extende d, use the following pr ocedure to clear the l ocked cutter. 1. Turn off the power. 2. Open the front cover in the direction of the A arrow.
—3 0— While paper is loaded, pre ss and hold the FEED butto n while turning the power on. Hold the FEED button do wn for about one second and then re lease it to start self-printing. The pri nter prints its model name, version, memo ry switch settings, and a li st of built-in fonts.
—3 1— Print received data in hexadecimal. If problems such as missing or duplic ated data occur, this fu nction allows you to check whether or not th e printer is receiving data correctly.
—3 2— z Paper-end When the end of the roll of paper is detected, the ERROR LED lights. Load a new paper roll. z Paper cover open When the paper cover is open, the ERROR LED lights . If the paper cover is opened durin g printing, the ERROR LED flashe s.
